to hate it when people write "Xmas"?

It is, after all, a festival about Christ.

Putting an "x" instead of His name is lazy and disrespectful.
If you don't want a Christian Christmas, refer to the "holidays" instead.

they write it because they are lazy and disrespectful

A bit judgy, n'est-ce pas?

Anna, you sound eminently sensible.

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 02/11/2015 19:18

Yes perhaps we should go over the concept of AIBU.

Its like this, you post a question asking AIBU. The majority say yes you are. You say, OK, I accept iabu.

Op, yabu.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 02/11/2015 19:18

I think Anna might be doing "Christianity-lite".

OP posts:
LineyReborn · 02/11/2015 19:18

Jesus wasn't called that, was he, OP? And he didn't speak in Greek either.

AnnaMarlowe · 02/11/2015 19:19

Only Thank you, I do try.

TiggyD · 02/11/2015 19:19

Who would win in a fight between Jesus, Mohammed, Budha, Moses, Ganesh, and Tom Cruise?

LineyReborn · 02/11/2015 19:20

You would, Tiggy.

iklboo · 02/11/2015 19:20

Definitely you Tigs

AnnaMarlowe · 02/11/2015 19:21

Left now that I find offensive.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 02/11/2015 19:21

So, can you not be bothered to type out AIBU in full? Is that lazy and disrespectful too?

My Dad is the most committed Christian I know. He writes Xmas. He also doesn't celebrate on the 25th December and would accuse you of doing Xtian Lite. Jesus wasn't born then. It's a hijacking of somebody else's festival, if you really want to talk about disrespect.

I can only imagine you're being deliberately goady.

OnlyLovers · 02/11/2015 19:22

Ganesh. Hands down.

He may look cuddly but he can handle himself, IMO.

Apart from anything else, he loves sweets, so he'd have the energy of the mother of all sugar rushes.

"Christianity-lite", eh, OP? Nice. Hmm

iklboo · 02/11/2015 19:22

I honestly worked with someone who thought ganache was named after Ganesh. Like it was religious chocolate covering or something.

ShowOfBloodyStumps · 02/11/2015 19:22

Although my Dad wouldn't accuse. He's nice.

Icedcrunch · 02/11/2015 19:27

Well, in this country you are supposed to avoid disrespecting other people's religion
That only seems to apply to any other religion. If you're a Christian the same rules don't seem to apply. Confused

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/11/2015 19:27

I think Anna might be doing "Christianity-lite". An example of 'respect-lite'.

JassyRadlett · 02/11/2015 19:28

No, most people don't write "xmas" because they are theologians, they write it because they are lazy and disrespectful.

No, most people use it because it's a perfectly valid alternative form. As I'm sure you now understand. (You may also want to do some reading around the interaction of the Christian sects with Halloween from medieval times onwards.)

Blanche - just as well Christians follow the New Testament then, not the Old Testament, hey?

Apart from those Christians who like to wheel out Leviticus to justify all sorts of prejudiced beliefs that they'd like to force down others' throats.

I spent 11 years at a Presbyterian school and used to be a Cheistian. This 'the OT is irrelevant' thing is pretty new. If it isn't relevant, why keep wasting the paper as printing it as part of God's word?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 02/11/2015 19:28

OMG! Are you dissing Anna's religion?

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/11/2015 19:28

Clearly Muhammad. The rest weren't actually soldiers.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/11/2015 19:28

Do you want to go over the concept of AIBU again?

It goes like this doesn't it:
OP: AIBU?
Everyone else: YABU
OP: no I'm not you're all wrong.
Followed by the OP insulting various posters.

I'd say we were pretty much on track. All we're waiting for now is the person who agrees with you so you can latch on to their comment andd prove you were right all along.

JasperDamerel · 02/11/2015 19:30

This thread is making me squirm inside, and I really hope that the OP is just trying to wind people up. If she isn't, I really hope she can go off and actually study some theology before spouting a load of nonsense and claiming that it is on behalf of Christians.

TiggyD · 02/11/2015 19:33

100 Likes = 1 high five for Jesus!

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 02/11/2015 19:34

Anything that's not in the Bible isn't Christian. That goes for Hallowe'en, the Pope and all sorts!

OP posts:
CuffsAndCollar · 02/11/2015 19:38

I don't refer to "Hallowe'en" at all because I do't agree with it!

I believe you just did.

I'm thinking if Jesus had a smartphone he'd probably use Xmas as well, I quite like XFest myself though.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 02/11/2015 19:38

So do tell us about your celebrations Are they all Bible approved?

Thingsthatmakeugoummmm · 02/11/2015 19:43

If you are actually being serious with this post the. I should point out that You posted in Am I Being Unreasonable which is asking others to judge if you are! I for think you are

Any way Happy Xmas to one an all!
