How would you vote if there was an EU Referendum tomorrow on British Membership?

I know this is completely unscientific and there are a lot of variables to factor in but if there was an EU Referendum tomorrow on British Membership how would you vote if the only options were staying in (with things as they are now) or out (and into the great unknown)? There seems to be a lot of hysteria on both sides of the argument.

I'm leaning towards out.

In. I do think changes need to be made but I see being part of the EU a positive thing.

Def in. You only here the bad stuff about the EU and never the good.
But I do admit I do not know I great deal about it but I am doing my best to find out and make and informed choice. However I think I lot of people will vote and not really understand what they are voting for or the best way vote for them.

BonnieF · 31/10/2015 20:44

If Dave can cut a deal which gives the UK back real control of our borders : stay.

Otherwise, I'm oot.

bertsdinner · 31/10/2015 22:15

Out. I do "feel" European, but I dislike the EU as a political body.

Patapouf · 31/10/2015 23:35

Stay in. If such a thing as 200% existed, that's how much.

At any cost, but then I like supranationalism and have benefitted from freedom of movement personally (am British though). The idea of leaving horrifies me and I'm very worried that little englanders will vote to leave without comprehending the gravity of doing so. I appreciate that not everyone who dislikes the EU is thick/racist but the average layperson does not understand how it functions or the purpose of the EU, just that it costs us money and allows forriners in.

wasonthelist · 31/10/2015 23:44

Out. There's no chance of us leaving though. Insufficient support from politicians and business will make it impossible to leave. Dave's renegotiations will be be marginal but spun as a major coup by the sympathetic fans. My objection is that there is so much that is undemocratic and unaccountable in the EU.

MrsMoggy · 31/10/2015 23:55

Out.

I think the SNP are going to subtly (nah, they aren't really capable of subtle) manipulate an OUT vote to justify another Scottish Referendum.

I'm an IN because I like Europe, I think we benefit from it massively. I think we are, as an individual country, much less relevant than we used to be. I don't really want "ever closer union", but I'd take it over being on our own. If the whole EU became like Germany, well, there's worse places to be like. I think we'd lose a million+ jobs leaving. I worry what the Tories would do without having to think about EU Regs.

I'm very concerned by how many Out people there are on this thread, I thought this vote was just a formality.

NameChange30 · 01/11/2015 00:20

IN. It may not be perfect but we have to be in it to improve it. Plus all the other "IN" arguments made by PPs!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 01/11/2015 01:31

In. It's better to be inside to influence an important, albeit flawed, organisation.

Strong Out.

Without the EU being stripped back to the bone and reformed, it will remain pro-integrationist despite being too big and unwieldly to work for the people who live in it. We can see this already with the Euro, which will be just one of a number of one-size-fits all solutions that don't really suit anyone.

This will be the UK's only chance to leave. I very much hope that Scotland remains part of the UK, but if that is the price for EU-exit is that Scottish independence I would pay it.

LongTimeLurking · 01/11/2015 06:51

Out. The EU does bring benefits but I think overall the downsides, especially the anti-democratic nature, are just too great to justify staying in.

However I expect the negative scare tactic campaign of the IN side to win the day - just as it did for the Scots independence vote in the end. What happens after that (potentially an ever increasing shift towards the united states of europe) is what really concerns me.

Andrewofgg · 01/11/2015 07:24

In with regret. It's too late to get out.

eatingworms · 01/11/2015 07:27

I'd like to say OUT but not sure if I'd be brave enough in reality.

The lack of democracy is a BIG thing for me. We shouldn't give that up at any cost. And it feels like it's being lost. If we vote to stay in we are giving the green light to further erosion of this and that scares me. Are the benefits of staying IN worth that price? What if things change for the worse in years to come and we will have no way of getting OUT then? No say anymore.

abbieanders · 01/11/2015 08:49

I think many of the posters who complain about a lack of democracy have an interesting point. What parts of the EU would you democratise, and how?

The other interesting thing is the hostility to Germany, of course.
