to not want to be held hostage by a bus driver?

On the bus this morning. Gridlocked with other buses by the time we get to city centre. We are about 3 feet from the bus stop and stuck. About 15 of us want off. We wait ten mins then I ask the driver to let me off. He refuses as he's not allowed to open doors btween stops. And tells me if I open door he will call police.

Surely he HAS to let me off if I insist otherwise he is holding me hostage? After all I'm a grown up and can choose what risks to take.

I like that bit from TFL. Confirms my general opinion that unlike all other transport companies in this country their basic objective is to get as many people from A to B as quickly and safely as possible, rather than their bottom line.
I am aware that some of their employees occasionally have other views but basically I'm #TeamTFL

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 23/10/2015 20:28

With ref to "you'll sue him if you get off and get hit" I'll just repeat I AM AN ADULT

Yes but the driver doesn't know that you wouldn't, there are sadly adults in this world that would, I can find you articles of stories where bus companies have been sued. Just dos your reasonable and wouldn't doesnt mean any one else wouldn't. So what he lets you off you get hit you don't sue so he thinks ah ok it's an adult responsible forvthemself, next time a customer goes hay let me off here the stops only there, he lets them off they get hit and sue!

He's not a mind reader, he can't garentee you won't sue. He can't garentee your safe he can't let you off!

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 20:31

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Maybe being constantly told you're a cunt makes you a bit less cheerful with the public Hmm I'll ask around.
I'm shattered. Due to thongs completely outside the bus companies control ( again as most things are ) a fire, and a road closure, my 12 hour shift became a 13 hour shift. And a few people called myself and my colleagues rude words because of said fire and road closure causing delays. So I'm off to bed to grab a couple of hours sleep so I can do it again tomorrow. And I'll still smile and offer advice and help as I do every day. I won't let a few self centred people who think the world and everyone in it should dance to their tune and obey their every whim, stop me. I'm rambling because I'm knackered. Apologies. Halloween Smile

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 20:32

Thongs? Things! I've never typed thongs before! I hate them I don't own any! Phone is on kinky mode tonight apparently.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 23/10/2015 20:40

I don't tell the drivers they're cunts. I just smile and say please and thank you regardless of whether I've got one of the grumpy ones or not. I had a Polish one today and he was a delight. He smiled and everything!

Notasinglefuck - calm down dear, you're not Florence Nightengale or fighting in the trenches of WW1 or something! No one likes a martyr. It's not charity work you're doing - you're drawing a salary. If you hate it that much, do something else.

Wow i've only met 2 arsey bus drivers and i'm stuck with public transport.
I have though been stuck with a lot of arsey passengers who think it's acceptable to abuse, threaten, take photos and state they will put them on the internet and be racist towards drivers.

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 20:52

I'm not worked up. As I said, I had a tired ramble after a bad day. Assume you only read half what I wrote. Need to turn this thing off. Trying to switch my brain off.
A little bit confused by the cheek towards me. I'm not rude in my post, am I? I may verbalise things differently to you but I don't think I came across as rude? Or say that you personally call anyone cunts? I didn't name anybody if I remember correctly. Are you so filled with rage at public transport that you felt that was necessary? I've been called all sorts today and I'm not as condescending and bitter as you. I'm happy to go to work tomorrow to get involved and deal with tourists etc as I said. I enjoy it and a few rude people don't put me off. Where you got the rest from baffles me....Halloween Hmm

ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 23/10/2015 21:14

You wouldn't sue because you're an adult? Cos only children and animals sue.
If you come across in real life as dickish as you do on this thread, its no wonder bus drivers are hostile to you op. I doubt they are the only ones

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 23/10/2015 21:19

I took your post to mean that I and certain PPs are:
"self centred people who think the world and everyone in it should dance to their tune and obey their every whim" and that I actually call them cunts to their face.

I have to deal with arsey clients at work and because I'm in private practice, I have to lick their arses - eg stay late to meet them after they finish THEIR work. A lot more effort than just being a polite driver. It's life. We all have to do it.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 23/10/2015 21:25

No constance, I wouldn't SUCCEED at suing anyone because I'm an adult and I took a risk. This is not America where you can sue over a hot coffee ffs.

I'm only dickish when the situation warrants it! Usually to jobsworths! I am not one of those "sheeple" types who just do what they're told unquestioningly. I like to challenge "authority" (term used loosely) when appropriate. Just wish others had a set of balls once in a while too.

Just makes me realise why I hate most people actually. I'm not here to be liked in any event, who give a toss what some grumpy old bus driver thinks of me?

OP posts:
kali110 · 23/10/2015 21:34

Ffs. Really pissing me off this jobsworth and grumpy old driver crap!
He was following the rules set out in his job!
You're noone special to him that he would risk his job for!
If they're told they can't do something or they will be disciplined i don't blame them.
Why should they do it for you?
I wouldn't either!
Would you risk your job?
Would you risk paying your rent/mortgage/feeding your family for one person?

kali110 · 23/10/2015 21:35

Yes, this thread has made me realise why i hate the public.

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 21:42

Referring to the people I had a bit of grief from tonight. Did you assume it was about you? I wish I had your self esteem Halloween Grin it's all in my earlier post. I had a tired ramble. Seriously though, relax. That much bile will give you an ulcer. Have a Wine or something. Nothing is worth shortening your life for. I've given up on sleep and am enjoying a nice ginger beer.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 23/10/2015 21:45

Hope my ulcer bursts Lord Grantham - style over one of the "computer says no" types.

OP posts:
Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 21:47

Oh, the self centred people are the folks who thought that the fire brigade shutting one lane of a city road to extinguisher a burning building was trumped by them having to wait a bit longer. And the road closure due to a fatal pile up was ridiculous and again just a hassle for them. If that isn't self centred then I can't imagine what is.....

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 21:48

Who is Lord Grantham? Halloween Hmm

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 21:53

Sorry about this but the challenge authority thing made me remember this meme....again nothing personal I just like it and this thread needs lightening up.

to not want to be held hostage by a bus driver?
LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 23/10/2015 21:56

Notasinglefuck, ha, I like that meme, it's the kinda old woman I intend to become.

Let's be friends then.

I think you need to google "Downton Abbey"!!

OP posts:
Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 23/10/2015 22:08

Ah I haven't seen it. Google showed me a gory blood spattered man at a dining table when I typed his name. Did not think Downton Abbey was a bloody thing. Rather surprised! It was a grim picture.

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 23/10/2015 23:12

I'm sure these are the rules but the very thought makes me feel claustrophobic (because I am claustrophobic!)

pebbletime · 23/10/2015 23:15

"Notasinglefuck - calm down dear, you're not Florence Nightengale or fighting in the trenches of WW1 or something! No one likes a martyr. It's not charity work you're doing - you're drawing a salary. If you hate it that much, do something else"

I am posting on a teachers thread atm and I dared to post that some of my local (Scotland) teachers are less than hard working and accountable and the RAGE is unbelievable. Imagine if I said this to them - they'd combust!

And you are not Michael Winner and no need to be so patronising.

AS for your staying late and having to schmooze up to your clients - yes, that really compares to H having some fool with a gun on the bus in his first week (a junkie pointed it at his head and told him to take him to the Polis station), a recent passenger having a coronary, having your bus stoned, being spat on and having a woman in labour. Not to mention not having toilet breaks for 6 hours (and the long term effect on your bladder) and working in cold and miserable conditions, missing your breaks and staying late for all the paperwork after incidents. H was late after a hit and run on his bus last week - he was stationery when he was rear ended by another vehicle. He had to ensure all his passengers were okay, call paramedics, then drive the bus back to Control and 'explain' why it was in such a state. Oh, and if HE is more than 5m late starting a shift (after commuting 40 miles) his shift is given away and he isn't paid.

If we all went and did something else how would all you entitled twunts too tight for a Cab get to work / play then?

I'm glad you and Notasinglefuck are friends. She is more patient than I am.

kali110 · 24/10/2015 00:24

I'm sorry for your husband pebble
In last few months on the bus a driver has been threatened because he asked a mother to move out of the wheelchair spot, stopped the bus because some twat threatened him, myself and a couple who were in the pushchair and people with heavy shopping seats as they wouldn't move. ( they had disabilities), been racially abused several times, and the buses have had eggs and bottles thrown at them!
I hate having to get the bus myself, i feel sorry for the drivers, i don't know how they do it!
This has actually reminded me of what happened the other month when i was in town center.
I was getting onto the bus and the driver pulled up earlier to the stop as there was somethingelse blocking it.
An inspector got on and pulled him up on it and wouldn't let us on. ( nothing dangerous, bus was by pavement just not in official spot) told driver if police saw him he would be in trouble.
When the bus or coach pulled out he had to reverse back into the spot just to open the doors and let people on.

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 24/10/2015 08:07

Cheers pebble I've realised there's no point arguing. Unless you know a driver or are one it's hard to understand the job. The Clutha air crash....I was there parked up. Took a few survivors out of town in the middle of that. Cried when I got home. The bin lorry crash last Christmas. Again sent out of service with a few others to clear the city. We end up in the midst of things a lot. Like 7/7. Those poor people had to get home somehow. It was a few drivers I believe who volunteered to go back out and run their routes. It's an unusual job. And sometimes it throws up thongs that make a late finish feel like a good. High five to you pebble

ssd · 24/10/2015 11:54

at last, some sense being talked and not all this hostage shite from an idiot the op

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 24/10/2015 13:06

Thongs again. I'm baffled by this phones obsession with undergarments. Halloween Grin
