To have not let her have the meningitis vaccine?

My daughter is 15 weeks and she goes for her second lot of vaccinations today, with her first lot I was happy for her to have them all apart from the new meningitis because it had only been around for about 4 weeks when she had her first lot and I didn't like how I had to give her calpol as it would cause a spike in her temp, also I just don't trust it.

Now I'm starting to wonder if I was a dick for not letting her have it? I'm not anti vax at all I just don't like this one and what it would do to my baby, has anyone else refused this vaccine? The nurse tried to argue with me and I'm anxious she's going to pressure me again today!

Sorry, but yes. And the vx has been around for much longer - we paid for DD to have it about 18 months ago.

I'm about to pay to have my toddler receive that vaccine and you have just disregarded it. Unless you have a valid reason not to take the vaccine up I suggest you make the appointment and stop being ridiculous.

Can I ask for it this late? It didn't sit right with me how it would cause a spike in her temprature but isn't actually guaranteed to protect her against meningitis? So it's definitely going to make her feel unwell and have a high temp but might not protect her against meningitis? That's what I was told by my GP. I don't like to refuse things like this usually

So vv unreasonable, your fear is putting your childs life at risk. I speak as a pro choice mum who paid for single vaccines but as a nurse who saw little ones ill and dying from this hideous disease I would ask you to please talk this decision through with your gp or health visitor, its one vaccine I would not have refused

well i had to watch my middle child fight for his life .his skin turned black he had drips everywhere even his head.he thankfully survived but was well behind his peers for a while left with life long bowel problems .soYES YOU ARE AN IDIOT .a little bit of calpol for a spike in temperture is far better than the alternative .

YABVVU. What is it about meningitis that you like, given that you just don't like this vaccine?
The nurse isn't trying to bully/pressure you. She's just trying to talk some sense into you.

It must be too early not to reply to the thread with aggression and rage, I asked a question and I will get them, I wasn't seeking validation just advice, this vaccine is new to me none of my other kids have had it and the thought of it making my daughter poorly scared me.

We had a meningitis scare when my son was about your baby's age. His temperature shot up, he was groggy and not very responsive, and refused to feed.

We were in the hospital for hours while they ran tests.

Get the vaccination. It's nowhere near as frightening as a meningitis scare, never mind actual meningitis.

I'm not sure everyone gets those side effects. If you're on about the meningitis W vaccine, I had it recently and was fine. Popped out of work for 10mins, occupational health injected me, then I continued on my day as normal. But then, I've seen people who have died from meningitis, so I wouldn't ever refuse the vaccine.

I don't get why a spike in temperature freaks you, but meningitis doesn't.

There are no guarantees in life (apart from death), but surely taking a vaccine that is highly likely to protect against meningitis is preferable to not taking the vaccine, which then provides zero protection against meningitis.

I think you have a valid reason to refuse it there and then if you don't feel you haveenough information to make an informed choice. As I don't think they give you enough information at a general appointment to do so.
But I'm quite provaccines and think you'd be daffed to refuse if it's really beneficial. although I was under the impression its not good to give calpol to reduce the temperaturewith vaccines as it reduces the immune effect.

Speak to the doctor/nurse O.P. I was so worried about my LO and the meningitis vaccine but he has had it and the booster and I feel so much better now he has it. The calpol is nothing compared to the treatment your baby would need in other circumstances.
Hopefully they will do it for you.

I think if I was in your position I would definitely have let her have it . My two are too old to get the free jab so I'm thinking of paying to get it done . I have doctors in my family and have heard too many stories of meningitis and its effects.

Obviously meningitis scares me but the fact that it might not actually protect her but WILL make her Ill scared me more. I know I didn't consider it enough and I will ask for it today. I just come from the school of thought that if I have a doubt about something and its safety for my child I will have to have time to think it over and the appointment letter came through a day before the actual appointment and 2 days before we were due to fly to Kos. I was worried she would become seriously Ill from it abroad. now I feel like a cunt
