To think I'm not alone with not falling for adverts

I can't remember the last time I bought anything that was ever advertised. I get all most of my food from my able and Cole and local Indy organic shop. I go on holiday in interesting places that the average person wouldn't of heard of. When I need a new car I just get whatever my friend with a garage has a good deal on. With electrics I always just get something that has good reviews from somewhere like which.

I really can't think if the last time I bought anything branded. I do feel like I'm the only one in modern Britain.

I don't understand who falls for adverts?

OP posts:

Only read page one but must say bully for you.

CakeThat · 17/10/2015 14:32

Bet the op works for the Tonga tourist board! This thread's a highly subtle subliminal advert to make us want to go there. Mark my words, within the next 11 months we'll all have booked the aspirational trip of a lifetime!
All the Abel and Cole stuff's a red herring unless she works for them too

QueenStromba · 17/10/2015 14:44

Tonga has the most obese population in the world. The theory is that because they're miles from fucking anywhere the original settlers would have arrived there after long boat journeys from other islands that are also miles from anywhere. The people who survived these long boat journeys would have been the ones who were best able to store food as fat and so everyone there today is predisposed to obesity. This isn't really a problem with traditional diets but the Tongan economy is surprisingly well developed for a series of islands in the middle of the Pacific so their diets are just as crap as ours - hence the size of their rugby players.

Congratulations!

EatDessertFirst · 17/10/2015 15:03

Couldn't be arsed to read more than one page. I think those first few posters have it in a nutshell.

You must be so proud to be better than all of us. You sound horrifically smug and self-righteous I bet you are a riot at parties.

Even though I rank alongside the plebians, i know exactly where Tonga and Armenia are. Get over yourself.

MrsT2016 · 17/10/2015 15:04

Cool story bro, needs more dragons! Dragon

JassyRadlett · 17/10/2015 15:36

My chief memory of Tonga is that cotton buds are fucking expensive there.

Oh, and tropical paradise, etc etc. And expensive toiletries.

partialderivative · 17/10/2015 16:03

What EduCated said

Do people really think that they are immune to the constant product reinforcement that is happening all around them?

Silly them

capsium · 17/10/2015 16:18

I buy own brand stuff from Aldi and cheap stuff from Poundland.

I holiday in the UK. Electrics bought online, we look for good deals and look at reviews.

Am I falling for branding more or less than the OP?

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 17/10/2015 17:02

You know Abel and Cole is owned by the people who make aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings don't you?

bigsnugglebunny · 17/10/2015 17:18

I bookmarked this thread before it was popular...

FitzChivarly · 17/10/2015 17:25

MrsT Grin

ballerinabelle · 17/10/2015 17:36

God you're pompous. And it's wouldn't have NOT wouldn't of perhaps you should learn some grammar.

Pipbin · 17/10/2015 17:42

I do know what you mean OP as I see so many ads for stuff like shampoo and face cream that are just made up bollocks. I also can't stand car and perfume ads that are all wanky visuals.
However, I'm not a cunt about it.

PuppyMonkey · 17/10/2015 17:44

I don't think I could point out where Armenia and Tonga are on a map actually. Blush

Obviously Yiu don't BUY your naps from shops, if and draw the

PuppyMonkey · 17/10/2015 17:45

Posted too soon - you hand draw your maps was going to say.

Joke ruined now Sad

derxa · 17/10/2015 18:27

You know Abel and Cole is owned by the people who make aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings don't you? I've no idea if this is true or not but if it is Ha Ha Ha Ha!

Pipbin · 17/10/2015 18:29

Very true Derxa
Although I am warming to Aunt Bessie's now that I read they are actually made in Yorkshire by a family owned 150 year old firm.

Mumberjack · 17/10/2015 18:34

Aren't you advertising this Abel and Cole place??

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 17/10/2015 18:39

Where is Armenia?

PuntasticUsername · 17/10/2015 18:57

Abel and Vole Grin

Lovely veg boxes, with added rodent. Yum.

derxa · 17/10/2015 19:24

Abel and Vole I love vole and chips.

QueenStromba · 17/10/2015 20:08

Armenia is in the Middle east just east of Turkey and south of Georgia.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 17/10/2015 20:20

Lidl has a very aggressive marketing campaign going right now.

If op has never bought anything branded or from a mainstream supermarket or airline then who knows, maybe she doesn't know she's a pompous twit.

ilovesooty · 17/10/2015 20:22

Oh I think she is totally unaware.
