To think I'm not alone with not falling for adverts

I can't remember the last time I bought anything that was ever advertised. I get all most of my food from my able and Cole and local Indy organic shop. I go on holiday in interesting places that the average person wouldn't of heard of. When I need a new car I just get whatever my friend with a garage has a good deal on. With electrics I always just get something that has good reviews from somewhere like which.

I really can't think if the last time I bought anything branded. I do feel like I'm the only one in modern Britain.

I don't understand who falls for adverts?

*I would be really surprised if you never purchase anything at all on the basis of advertising.

Shampoo? Cleaning products? Makeup? Toys? Magazines? Theatre tickets? Cinema tickets?*

I buy my shampoo in bulk from a small organic company. I use lemon juice, vinegar , baking soda to clean. Does anyone buy magazines these days?

Yes. I have a magazine subscription. It was a gift and I love it.

Sh20 · 17/10/2015 09:34

I don't go to the cinema tbh as I find busy places annoying and I disagree with the huge amounts paid to Hollywood stars. Film ads usually ruin the film anyway!

Then you didn't buy it surely?

sh20, what is your point?

treaclesoda · 17/10/2015 09:36

Surely most people have heard of Tonga or Armenia? Confused I honestly can't imagine that the average person has only heard of Spain and the USA.

If someone told me they were going on holidays to Armenia I might say it's unusual but that's not because I haven't heard of it, it's because it's not a popular destination. Simple as that.

You do not sound full of joy despite your choices....

Sh20 · 17/10/2015 09:40

I didn't say people haven't heard of them! I said people dont know where they are. And most don't, as them to point it out on a map and they wouldn't know.

It's odd that companies spend so much money on advertising then,

At it's most basic, adverts will inform: "Table top sale at church hall"

They might try and sell the benefits too: "Get a bargain at our table top sale".

Those benefits might be exaggerated to some sort of aspirational lifestyle, where the advert features people living it up at the table top sale in fashionable clothing and a cup of the latest hipster brew.

The OP will surely be responding to the most basic types of advertising, otherwise she'd not even know what to buy and where,
I presume she's claiming some sort of edge on the rest of us, because she allegedly never falls for the lifestyle element.

LaurieMarlow · 17/10/2015 09:43

So you're a superior being. We get it. Now, let's move on to our next topic of conversation Hmm

treaclesoda · 17/10/2015 09:43

You said in your OP that you go to places that 'the average person wouldn't of heard of' , those were your own words. Confused

Narp · 17/10/2015 09:43

she doesn't exist

Sh20 · 17/10/2015 09:43

My hair looks amazing as I have a great diet. No products will ever be as good as a great lifestyle. Everyone wants one miricle potion not the truth .
