To say men playing video games is childish?

My DP is the most wonderful person, and the video games don't annoy me to an extent of anger, but they do raise my eyebrow a lot.

DP is only 22 but I think this is still too old to be playing games, although I understand men more than twice his age do. I once asked DP ''aren't you a little old for those?" And his reply was a very calm 'no, it's a stress reliever and my boss plays it too' (his boss is 44 with a wife and 2 DCs).

What cringes me out the most is him swearing and talking to other players over the zombie games etc, who are mores often that not less than half his age or not much older than half his age! Yes, really.

I understand that I'm lucky he's the type to ask 'do you want me to come off this?' And often I just say no darling. This is because I can get on with other things. Even I ask him to come off, he will and you wouldn't have known he even liked playing because he acts so normal once he's off.

My DP is a 'normal' bloke in all aspects apart from the silly video games. I just wish he'd stick to fishing instead lol.

AIBU to say grown men playing video games is a little bit eye brow raising worthy? I understand it is a stress buster, and perhaps I'm just a moody cow and need to be put in my place by fellow MNetters.

BadLad, AC Unity was terrible. I played it once and never again. I hope Syndicate is better. Although they went downhill after Revelations. AC3 was awful.

gamerchick · 16/10/2015 22:48

Valve can't count to 3 Angry

Scremersford · 16/10/2015 22:48

Well, I wouldn't stop anyone having fun from playing them, but its something that would make me discount a prospective partner. I'm more attracted to men who use their free time doing outdoor activities or sport; not sitting on their backsides indoors moving a mouse over a keyboard. Fair enough if they are a farmer or tennis player and need to rest during their spare time. And its hardly ever an hour a night, is it?

I feel the same about men (or women) who spend hours each night in the pub. Not my cup of tea at all. Each to their own.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/10/2015 22:51

I didn't find unity to be that buggy. I may well be one of the few people that liked it.

And I preferred the kenways with the exception of Connor to Altair and Ezio. For me black flag is the standout one of the bunch.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 22:53

I did love Edward Kenway. Not so keen on Connor though.

MySordidCakeSecret · 16/10/2015 22:56

yabu, he enjoys it, whats the problem? me and my dp enjoy gaming and we're both in our 20s. There are many adults who enjoy series associated with teens.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/10/2015 22:57

God Connor is dull as fuck compared to Haytham and Edward. How both of their genes contributed to that dullard I do not know.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 22:59

Yeah, I'd have happily played Haytham in favour of Connor.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/10/2015 23:01

I think that was a big complaint with 3. Almost everyone wanted more Haytham and less Connor.

Yanbu. DH plays computer games, it was fine when we had no real responsibilities but we have 2 kids and after I've been home all day with them it drives me mental that he then expects that I'll have them all evening every evening plus weekends so he can 'wind down' and have 'me time', I've gone back to work early so I can get some 'me time'!

RealHuman · 16/10/2015 23:09

That's more of a selfish DH problem than a video game problem, boo - if it were 1950 he'd be all "pipe, slippers, wireless, paper" and you'd just be expected to suck it up.

BadLad · 16/10/2015 23:09

Although they went downhill after Revelations. AC3 was awful.

I agree, although I enjoyed Black Flag. Rogue not quite so much, because the northern setting wasn't as interesting as Carribean Islands. I got bored of Rogue quite quickly.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/10/2015 23:14

badlad I still have to play rogue. I left it when I ended up in a bloody abstergo office being barked at by some middle management bint.

The only game I truly hated was watchdogs. Dp persuaded me to give it a go because you got to murder the annoying boss from ac black flag. Dull , dislikeable protagonist and I got nowhere near the main plot. I just stole cars and drove around listening to the radio.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 23:19

Watchdogs was alright. Never did try it out on the PS4 wasnt really a game that you'd want to reply.

pineappleshortbread · 16/10/2015 23:25

I loved the ac with ezio and altiar. I liked kenway as a character but couldnt stand sailing. Unity is okay but not as good as the others.

Just watched a trailer for syndicate set in london looks absolutely awesome.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 23:28

I need to finish the unchartered trilogy before AC comes out.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/10/2015 23:34

I've been sold on the Victorian/steampunk vibe since I saw the E3 trailer pineapple. Hence my username. I changed it after the Jeff incident. I mostly just want to play as Evie.

I'm trying to finish the last of us before I get syndicate.

BadLad · 16/10/2015 23:36

Does anyone play (whispers) GTA?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 23:38

I have played a few GTA's.

YouTheCat · 16/10/2015 23:56

I haven't read the whole thread. Some of the attitudes (admittedly, in the minority) were really depressing.

To those saying 'oh no! I couldn't date a gamer' - your loss and everyone else's gain. My lovely, gaming dp treated me to tickets to a full orchestra playing the Star Wars music tonight.

He's currently playing Neverwinter. I'm having a break from WoW.

RealHuman · 17/10/2015 00:18

I love GTA. Clever, funny, ironic, well made and mainstream. Not something you'll find very often in most fields of entertainment.

DontStopBelievin · 17/10/2015 00:31

YANBU, I couldn't be doing with DH being into video games. Whenever the children are on say, the PS3, you're lucky if you get so much as a grunt out of them. I couldn't be arsed with a man child on there as well spending all his time.

DontStopBelievin · 17/10/2015 00:36

I am amazed though that nobody has started a thread asking if colouring books aren't a bit childish, when such threads crop up sporadically for video games
there's a world of difference between calming colouring with your pencils and all encompassing video games that absorb you and make you only able to grunt as you concentrate on your virtual world.

DontStopBelievin · 17/10/2015 00:39

He's currently playing Neverwinter. I'm having a break from WoW

There's your answer to the apparent harmony and not seeing the problem. If you're usually a WoW person then you're just the same and don't see the level of intensity to the exclusion of others that gamers play at.

AmonAmarth · 17/10/2015 02:13

Speak for yourself, I can easily game (sorry, play a game) and hold a conversation. Try to interrupt me when I'm watching TV though...
