Why do so many people on here allow their children to follow them into the toilet every single time they go?

Id rather a quiet audience than a tantruming screaming heart broken 18m old. Sometimes he comes in sometimes he doesn't. I don't care really.

Because if you're going to be in there a while (ahem) it's more relaxing having an audience than wondering what the devil the little monkeys might be up to while you're stuck in there!

Why not? Your post is more than a simple trip to the toilet with toddler in tow.

Because my dd has a huge meltdown which leads onto a panic attack if I am locked in a room or if she can't see me.

Because if I take my 2 yr old in with me, I don't need to worry about him getting into mischief while I'm on the toilet.

I've also had heartbroken toddlers hammering on the door and screaming as if I've gone away for ever when I've gone and locked myself in there.

How old are they if they are experiencing a panic attack?

My dd still follows me into the loo sometimes and she is 12. I have even had a conversation with my neice 33 whilst I have been on the loo! I just accept that sometimes I won't get any privacy at all. It just seems normal for my family iyswim

I thought i would get privacy once DD got older, then i got two jack russells, i give up.

I also don't have any problem with my dd being in the same room. dp on the other hand can do one.

No, you don't need an audience, you just sometimes have one. Does it really matter?

I agree with you op, but then my kids were never clingy so maybe I was lucky. I do remember I guy I was dating a few years back had an 11 year old daughter. One day I went to toilet and heard her setting up camp outside the door and preparing for a long conversation with me!! Absolutely nuts. But then I'm big on privacy and alone time.

I generally have an audience ,particularly in the downstairs loo but it's not a child it's the dog ,he follows me everywhere ,I can't say it's something that bothers me .

Ds1 used to cry as a toddler, so it was easier to bring him in. Ds2 would camp outside.

She's 7, judge away, it one of the things we do in our family that others maybe wouldn't but I guess you make decisions about your dc that I would think were knobbish too.

Firstly, who cares?

Secondly, no its not compulsory to have an audience while on the lav but its not worth making a big deal out of toileting with a toddler because they need potty training too. What is the point in stopping them? I've found with my own children that they learn by just seeing what you're doing, that its normal, nothing to be afraid of etc.

Thirdly, if its not the kids, its the cats!

Non-issue. My 3 year old likes to come with me, I don't really care! If I say no she just sits outside the door talking to me anyway so she might as well come in. Why do you care what other people do?

Both mine did, they don't now.
I used to walk in on them when they were on the toilet or in the bath. I don't now.

It's not something to devote much mental space to.

I couldn't care tbh, I have always left the door open as has Dh when alone with the kids so they can come in if they want/ need to

I only know one parent in real life who openly converses about this matter and she has said why she does.

A year ago she went to the loo leaving her toddler and baby in the living room baby in a swing toddler playing nicely during the few minutes she was on the loo her toddler attempted to pick up the baby and dislocated his hip.

She then spent 6 months with both her children in foster care and not allowed anything other than extreamly limited supervised contact and very nearly had a breakdown. Obviosuly she has them back now.

Why do you care what other people do? Very judgy OP. All children are different and with some toddlers it is easier to just let them come with you rather than have a fight about it. Well done you for not having that situation. Clearly your parenting is superior

I don't want an audience, I just seem to get one. My children see to think that a response of "hang on,I'm on the toilet" why they attempt to ask me something means "come into the bathroom and stand in front of me while I poo then run off and leave the door wide open."
