That the "popular" posters on here are often rude.

I won't mention names but some of them seem to be popular for....not a lot really. Certain people come to mind who have a reputation for being straight talking and funny but most of the time I don't see it. I find them rather disagreeable tbh. Is it just me?

Is this a "I dislike favourite posters. Would you like to guess who I mean?" thread?

Surely it's against talk guidelines as it isn't in the spirit of the site.

Report threads and posts if you think they break talk guidelines.

Hullygully · 08/10/2015 13:12

This is a false correlation.

Lots of people on here are rude.

Some popular, some not.

On the whole, rude people don't tend to be popular.

Nabootique · 08/10/2015 13:12

Agree about "popular" actually being "frequent". Some are certainly more blunt than others, but so are infrequent posters. I mostly find MNers to be lovely, which is what keeps me coming back.

I would describe myself as frequent and lovely Grin

CloakAndJagger · 08/10/2015 13:12

I have no idea who the popular posters are any more. Some of the frequent posters may be recognisable, but that doesn't always equate to popular Grin

People are popular in their own specialist topics. I could name names you may not recognise if you loiter in chat and AIBU, but would know immediately in health or books or pets.

The site is so huge now, there's not really the big girls of Mumsnet any more. It's still as good though, just different.

InTheBox · 08/10/2015 13:12

I think I may know the posters you are talking about in so far as their names often crop up on threads that they are not necessarily engaging in. It's impossible to work out popularity but like said above when someone says something like "xx poster is well loved and respected" I'm always a bit Confused

It's the internet and people should really calm down. These threads come up every so often. Perhaps someone has got a spreadsheet somewhere they'd like to share?

There was a thread similar to this a while back. I think the title was something like "Are there any users who you didn't like but do now" or something. It ended up getting zapped.

CloakAndJagger · 08/10/2015 13:14

Oh, and just so you know, this kind of thread make you look like a bit of a dick. It's not a good look.

NotMyMonkey · 08/10/2015 13:14

I'm the same itsmine I never remember any names.

Hullygully · 08/10/2015 13:15

What happened to the famous cod and acolytes? I do remember famous mnetters around that time 2008ish but didn't know there were famous ones anymore particularly. Anyfucker springs to mind. Is there still jux? Was thinking of Xenia the other day. She was prolific but unpopular. I loved the way she ploughed on regardless.

I adore Xenia. I will never ever get over the time she said she imagined Bonsoir's dh being a bit podgy in a red v-neck jumper. Never. It was the best MN moment for me ever. That and singing at Beesimo.

This is like another anti "MN Royalty" thread, isn't it. Except no one can agree who the "MN Royalty" posters actually are.
So same with "popular posters", I guess - it's in the eye of the beholder.

thornrose · 08/10/2015 13:19

I agree with Maryz, Sparkling and Hully.

SurlyCue · 08/10/2015 13:19

Well i'm not popular at all and sometimes i'm rude. Does that make you feel better OP?

nowirehangers · 08/10/2015 13:19

Agree the days of mumsnet royalty are long over, imo, I don't notice "popular" posters any more and haven't for ages ... Xenia is still here, ploughing on, under a different name. Bless her.

Nabootique · 08/10/2015 13:19

Sparkling you went AWOL for a day or so and people sent out a search party. Now that to me is definitely popularity Wink and you are a very nice poster from what I've seen.

toldmywrath · 08/10/2015 13:19

Hmmm a bit of skullduggery going on between Hully,Mary &Sparklingbrook Wink

ShammyDavis · 08/10/2015 13:20

There are a few prolific posters about who are nasty bastards.

Prolific posters and 'known' names are not the same as popular, liked or even Maryz Royal.

It's impossible to say whether YABU or not without knowing who it is you perceive to be rude and disagreeable.
