Help me make this choice" (cat related) (title amended by MNHQ)

Hi all,

I had a previous thread in AIBU about getting a cat - perhaps someone clever could post the link? The vast consensus was that i should re-home an older cat due to my circumstances:
I'm out 12hrs 5 days a week for work but at home evenings and weekends. I live alone in a spacious, quiet flat in a cul-de-sac with a large shared garden. I don't really go on holidays. There are some other cats in the area.

OK fine. So I went to the local rescue today and am now torn between 2 cats and need to decide: Both are 9yr old females with no health problems.

Cat A: Not used to other cats. Affectionate - rubbed head on my hand and licked & purred but doesn't like to be picked up. Was a tiny bit scratchy and hissy at one point.

Cat B: Nice & small. Clung to me for dear life - incredibly affectionate. Was like having a baby in a wrap-thing. Used to other cats.

The cat sanctuary people said either would be fine for me but I was surprised Cat B could be left alone for long periods. They have no particular concerns about Cat A with other cats - it just hasn't been tested yet!

I love them both already and am completely torn.
Any advice would be really appreciate, thank you.

Your name is apt, you are rather prickly today

WizzardHat · 30/09/2015 22:47

Good choice of cats OP, I got my elderly gentleman from teh same shelter a few years ago as well. He was a sweetheart; sadly gone now.

Oh, FFS! Stop going on about the bloody film! The OP apologised ages ago and had the title changed and still people are whining and getting snotty about it.

JessicaFletchersEyes · 30/09/2015 23:01

It is not kind to encourage OP like this.

Look at her recent posts. She thinks 'knackered' is comparable to the original clanger.

Just go back to discussing cats and stop encouraging her to make a fool of herself.

This is cringeworthy.

Jessica I'm cringing reading your posts. Might be time to back away from the keyboard and have a Brew

JessicaFletchersEyes · 30/09/2015 23:33

If you think 'knackered' is a good comparator to describing a rescue pet decision as 'Sophie's Choice' Mojito, I would humbly suggest that your cringeometer is not worth heeding.

Congrats on your new cat OP! Glad she's settling in well and hope you have lots of happy years ahead together!

Singlewhitewhale · 01/10/2015 01:40

You have done an awesome deed adopting an older cat:)

My first adaption was a stripey chap( since passed away) wouldn't lie in the bed for a good year, had to eat small amounts(Hourly)he had me wrapped around his paw! He was quite the male figure around the cats I rescued after him:)

Oh, he yelped lots.

Please explain the 'comedy sense' of choosing at gunpoint which of your children dies (or they both do).

Well you see Jessica, it's been used in several comedy shows such as "Friends" and "Family Guy" and main stream media.

It's not exactly a far stretch to fathom as to how people could possibly not know where an originally distasteful phrase came from when it's used so lightly.

Children sing "Ring around the Rosie" which originates from the Black Plague.

A "Cakewalk/Piece of Cake" is originally an event where plantation owners forced slaves to have a dance competition to win cake.

A "Loophole" is a crack in the wall where archers could shoot people without getting shot back.

"Grasping at straws" refers to how a drowning person will frantically grasp at anything.

"Running Amok" refers to a mental illness was first discovered when trying to figure out why "Amuco" warriors were going on random killing sprees.

It's not uncommon for morbid phrases to make their way into the English vernacular and change to a lighter meaning.

I suppose you could spend all your time figuring out new ways to be professionally offended. But personally, there's far bigger things to get worked up about than a phrase that's made it into common usage from a fictional story. The English language evolves. OP had the title changed because she didn't intend to offend anyone. Move on.

Senpai · 01/10/2015 04:16

But.. back to the truly important thing on this thread...

OP! You need to post pics of your new cat happy in her new home! Grin

Sparrowlegs248 · 01/10/2015 05:37

Good choice OP. Last year i chose an older less 'desirable' cat over a young, cute cat and then got my sister to have the cute cat

One word of advice - petplan. I had never had previous cats insured but this one came with 4weeks free. I ummed and ahhed about it then decided that as the cat was 9 i would keep it on. ?20 per month started in November 2014. May 2015 he was diagnosed diabetic. It has taken a looong time to stabilize him. Petplan have so far paid out ?1500!!!! Get the covered for life option.

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 06:20

Don't worry op, you're not stoopid. When I read JFE post about knackered being compared to the original clanger, I wondered which clanger she meant. I know there is a small clanger, possibly a major clanger but not a original clanger, then soup dragon posted and blew my mind.

That will teach me to just read the last page.

Hope lovely cat is settled in nicely, mine is sitting by my feet with her back to me. I don't know if I have done something wrong or if she just isn't quite up to a conversation yet.

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 06:28

I have to say in my defense that I had a migraine last night, and my head is a wee bit fuzzy this morning.
I put the dc in my bed and they read the cebeebies story time clanger a book - so that's possibly where the clanger clanger came from.

kinkytoes · 01/10/2015 06:43

One less homeless cat in the world. Well done OP.

Jessica and Cactus you are being hilarious, which I'm sure wasn't your intention. Some people have far too much time on their hands!

BeautifulLiar · 01/10/2015 06:52

I had no idea what Sophies Choice meant, never even heard of the film. And I don't like cats.

Not sure why I'm on this thread Grin

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 07:10

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 07:26

Grin it shit in your bed ? You must have done something to piss it off.

BeautifulLiar · 01/10/2015 07:28

I'd only had it a couple of weeks! Must have known I secretly hated it. It smashed my favourite plate too :( knob!

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 07:44

Yes it must have known, I can imagine the satisfied smug look on his face as he shat in your bed Grin
