It is September.

Christmas

AIBU?

OP posts:
JugglingFromHereToThere · 28/09/2015 11:24

I'm always a last minuter regarding Christmas but if I can get a few things for people throughout the autumn that would probably make it less stressful and more enjoyable and people might end up with more thoughtful pressies.
Plus a lot of threads I've seen are thinking about whom might go to whom, and that sort of thing can need talking about and arranging quite early on.
So I think generally YABABU. Though my DH thinks no-one should mention Christmas until after his birthday at end of October. It's easy for men to say that though isn't it as they leave everything to the Christmas fairy to sort out?!
Where's the Christmas emoticon when you need it! Smile

Mintyy · 28/09/2015 11:25

Mumsnet hq simply don't care about this, op.

There have been countless threads like this one over the years (there was at least one yesterday) but hq could NOT care less that it irritates the bejaysus out of so many of their members.

"Don't click on Christmas threads then" is an inane response too.

I have a theory that their suspicious-looking "survey" about getting prepared for Christmas was just an exercise in gathering statistics to back-up the feeling that Mumsnet is now mainly inhabited by people who can't get Christmas into perspective.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 28/09/2015 11:26

That thread has been alive and kicking all summer. Folk discussing where to get the best Christmas door wreath.... in July.

Bless you. Do what the rest of us do and IGNORE until Christmas week Grin

Badders123 · 28/09/2015 11:26

Would be lovely not to have to think about Xmas til November.
Sadly some of us have to budget really carefully and so have to start early.

Why click on an Xmas thread if they annoy you so much?

NewLife4Me · 28/09/2015 11:28

You don't have to look at the Christmas board which iirc runs all year round.
Maybe it's not in active enough for you to have noticed.
YABU because those who want to be organised early want to share info with others.
YABVVVVU not to put this in the Christmas topic yourself Xmas Grin

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 28/09/2015 11:30

You can hide the Christmas board if it bothers you that much.

Cute little christmas hats - how do you do that??

trulybadlydeeply · 28/09/2015 11:31

Are you complaining that there is a Christmas board? That would be like me moaning that there is "The Tack Room", simply because I don't have a horse!

Many people want/need to plan Christmas, often because they start buying presents now, perhaps because otherwise very popular items run out, and usually because spreading the cost over a few months is a necessity.

I acknowledge that some threads are not on the Christmas board, and it seems a lot of these are about families/ relationships/dilemmas, and they may want a wider perspective, or the opinions of people that spend a lot of time on the Relationships board, for example.

MN is for everyone, I see a lot of thread titles that I don't like or am not interested in, so I don't open them...

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 28/09/2015 11:33

I'm assuming your point is that there IS a specific Christmas topic so don't go polluting chat, AIBU etc. etc. with such trifles before the start of Advent?

If so, YANBU as such. Although slightly scroogey Xmas Grin.

BiddyPop · 28/09/2015 11:34

YANBU about Christmas - lots don't want to acknowledge or plan for it in advance. I accept that.

However, YABVVVVVVVU to object to those of us who DO want to plan ahead and be prepared to enjoy the season rather than being frazzled, actually doing so on the dedicated board away from the other poor souls who don't wish to enjoy the sentiment of Christmas year round!!

Xmas Grin to you

ahbollocks · 28/09/2015 11:35

Oh OP I used to be like you. And then my family became enormous and then I had a toddler who loves doing crafty bits and pieces and then I drifted over to the christmas board on an accidental google search and now I am totally hooked Grin

You know what though, the posters over there are nice and cheery,( not to the extent of 'hun'ing of course)
Posters are supportive of each others little projects, recommend recipes, talk one another through console purchases/jam recipes/crocheting patterns.

It's nice

reni2 · 28/09/2015 11:37

Maybe we need a Scrooge board so all of us Scrooges can say "I saw a chocolate Santa in Tesco in September".

Or maybe we just don't visit the Christmas board. I'm not religious and I have no pets, so I don't visit pet pages or prayer threads.

MN would be reduced to AIBU and Classics if we removed all the boards many find irrelevant.

M4blues · 28/09/2015 11:37

"Don't click on Christmas threads then" is an inane response too.

Why is that inane? There are plenty of topics on here that I have no interest in and don't want to click on under any circumstances. But they're of interest and importance to others so I'd be really bloody unreasonable to complain about their existence.

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 28/09/2015 11:38

I just clicked on the link not realising that it was taking me to a whole world of Christmas threads! Found it a bit scary over there tbh.

gamerchick · 28/09/2015 11:38

I'm not arsed what people think it is.

99% of the time you know a Christmas thread before you open it, just like I knew this was yet another whinge about Christmas threads. There's loads of threads I don't click on because they won't interest me. I don't know why people just don't hide them as they're looking at active.

CadleCrap · 28/09/2015 11:43

My Aibu is not about planning for Christmas or being a Scrooge, it is about the fact there is a Christmas board if you want to use it to discuss Christmas in September. As Mintyy said it irritates the bejaysus out of some of us.

Mind you, I feel the same about baby name threads which spill into chat. But I have to read them as some of them, are just bonkers.

Op: I like Charles
Np: no I like Nigel.

I will accept IABU.

OP posts:
CadleCrap · 28/09/2015 11:45

Should clarify that - find it irritating that other boards are not used except for chat and aibu.

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/09/2015 11:47

I will accept IABU

Excellent OP.

Also, some people have real issues over Christmas dilemmas, so may want to start a thread somewhere else to get maximum MN coverage and response, rather than hidden in 'Christmas'

reni2 · 28/09/2015 11:47

But OP, that's just it- there is a Christmas board so you don't have to read Christmassy stuff elsewhere?
