OK I need either tech assistance, or to get on to 70s for her wisdom and secrets....
Xmas Sad

WhatstheT · 28/09/2015 12:11

I don't mind Christmas starting early, especially in shops. I have very little disposable income and I'm incompetent at saving. So I can do it over weeks and months instead of buying in bulk :)

Surely it's better separate so people like you don't get wound up seeing all the Christmas posts?

P.S Thank you as I didn't know the thread existed :)

middlings · 28/09/2015 12:14

The "seasonal" display was being prepared in Waitrose yesterday. Gave me the rage.

BoskyCat · 28/09/2015 12:14

There are people who like thinking about Christmas all year round. If I was one of them, it would probably be easier to sort it but I just can't be arsed thinking about it until well after Halloween.

I do love a good moan about how I saw mince pies in sainsbo's in SEPTEMBER and yes I do think they should be banned until December. But I just have to ban them for myself. NO mince pies until December 1, or else you get bored of them by xmas and then where would we be hmmmmmmm?

YABVU. Not everyone can afford to wait until Christmas to splurge on presents, food etc in one go. Some people need to take advantage of offers through the year or just spread the cost. Some are busy and in order to get everything done need to start the preparation early. And some of us just like to think about Christmas all year round as soon as DC are back at school. Not sure how anybody can leave all the Christmas shopping until December tbh - how do you get everything done in time?!

chandelierswinger · 28/09/2015 12:28

mermaid My youngest LOVES mince pies so we have them all year round. I appreciate that Apple pies would probably be more socially acceptable but, what can I say, she has inherited the "I love Christmas" gene. Grin

Ooh you know it's coming up to Christmas when people start moaning about Christmas threads on mumsnet Grin I love Christmas

EponasWildDaughter · 28/09/2015 13:15

YABU

Many of the threads started in chat or AIBU are about problems and stresses to do with xmas. Many of us get family or financial xmas worries thrust upon us in September.

Xmas comes every year, just like wedding season, summer hols and schools going back. Every year there are folk who are literally dreading xmas and need to post. Xmas is a bloody great PITA for a lot of people and it doesn't help treating it like some sacred cow of an event that you're not allowed to mention or complain about untill November!

Septembersunrays · 28/09/2015 14:25

There have been countless threads like this one over the years (there was at least one yesterday) but hq could NOT care less that it irritates the bejaysus out of so many of their members

Ummm...there are also many members who need too, want too, like too talk about Christmas at any point they want too, as people chat and talk about a myriad of topics all over these boards.

Didums finds it irritating and wants MNHQ to do something about Christmas.

I find plenty of topics, chats irritating but I do not go to their boards, seek them out and moan at them about it. Hmm

Deathtomoonsand · 28/09/2015 14:27

Oh, YANBU

But, while we are talking about it, does anyone know who does wrapping paper with the cutting grid on the reverse, other than M&S?

Septembersunrays · 28/09/2015 14:27

it doesn't help treating it like some sacred cow of an event that you're not allowed to mention or complain about untill November!

Its not a sacred cow and its right MNHQ defend it and peoples right to talk about it. Your right epona about this time of year its natural to turn thoughts towards xmas esp with family arrangements and yes it can be a time of great worry and angst and talking about it helps, which is after all what MN is for to help each other.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 28/09/2015 14:28

I reckon there are now more 'wah wah Christmas September wah wah' threads than there are Christmas threads themselves. Can we ask HQ for a whining about Christmas topic?

Septembersunrays · 28/09/2015 14:28

death go to our lovely christmas board and ask there. Grin

Deathtomoonsand · 28/09/2015 14:32

Thanks September, I think I'm just about ready to embrace my festive geek status.

Dionysuss · 28/09/2015 14:40
Biscuit

Have a mince pie

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 28/09/2015 15:02

Paperchase and JL I think.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 28/09/2015 15:05

Seriously though, why do people get so wound up? On style and beauty there are currently 12 threads all on the first page asking about winter boots. I don't wear boots and where I am it's currently 30 degrees. Shall I start a thread demanding HQ Do Something? That would make me look silly.

DisappointedOne · 28/09/2015 15:15

Some people like to start shopping and planning early to spread the cost.

Why can't those people save up the same amount of money and splurge in December?

Septembersunrays · 28/09/2015 15:26

dissapointed why should they?

As Martin Lewis money advisor says, get a list of what you want to buy then save and then when offers come up, you can grab them and save ££.

like argos 342 which is on right now, I have saved ££ on toys I was going to get anyway, now I have one toy free.

why wouldn't anyone want to take advantage of such things Hmm

Septembersunrays · 28/09/2015 15:27

For me buying early is also peace of mind, I have enough calamities, and issues on going in life, why add a mad expenisve december present race to the pot when I can calmly and happily do it now?

QforCucumber · 28/09/2015 15:35

disappointed I can't imagine anything worse, when in the family we also have - between 30th Nov and 28th December - 6 peoples birthdays as well as Christmas. Being organised enough now to have listed all the xmas presents and ticking off a list when purchased stops me spending my precious few weekends off work in December panic buying and purchasing things which people probably wouldn't like.

Definitely agree with the offers too - plenty of 3 for 2 and reduced bottles of spirits about nowish, means my budget stretches further and so people can be bought more (smile)
