Even if people did save up then we would still like a heads up when sales are on from July onwards to save a fair bit of coin. Why should anyone wat until things are full price late on in the year just to keep those who can't be bothered with it all happy? Hmm

Deathtomoonsand · 28/09/2015 15:43

Me too September, in December it's endless rounds of having and getting over colds, doing all the school Christmas stuff, work events and an extra helping of family politics on top of the usual stuff that is required to keep the family fed and clean and keeping the wheels going with a sleepless toddler in tow. And you are still at the mercy of Sod's Law. So, I can push some stuff to other times, it's madness not to.

Badders123 · 28/09/2015 15:51

I have not set foot in a shop in December for years.
And I don't intend to start now!
I have enough to do in December without Xmas shopping, tracking down kids toys that are now out of stock and fighting with unhinged people in the supermarket!

Deathtomoonsand · 28/09/2015 15:57

And thanks ThenLater for the Paperchase tip.

milkmilklemonade12 · 28/09/2015 15:59

YABU and goady.

Some people have to organise Christmas in September, because they can't afford not to.

Some people really enjoy it because it's the only time of year they get to see their families.

I don't bother other people who ask about their summer holidays in January for either of the above reasons.

dreadingautumn · 28/09/2015 16:01

I so agree. I do all my shopping online and refuse to give it a moments thought before November. At the moment, looking out the window it's still summer, I wouldn't want to wish that away for anything

Septembersunrays · 28/09/2015 16:25

And you are still at the mercy of Sod's Law

I have been at sods mercy for a while now at xmas, deaths, car break downs, family problems and so on.

I like to know whatever happens ( bar house fire) its all sorted for the dc. Flu, etc...no thanks.

DH is useless its me, and only me who gets xmas together.

Its together, its done!

Deathtomoonsand · 28/09/2015 17:03

I bet a lot of people are the same. FWIW, I hope you have a lovely, boring Christmas. Smile

Sorry, didn't realise the op had been appointed to police what topics interest others on mn.

Please, op, could you provide a list of what topics we're allowed to discuss now? No dog conversation before epiphany? No sleb gossip between Maundy Thursday and Easter?

The op came across as pretty rude to me. Clearly they were not just pointing out the Christmas topic, they were attempting to ridicule people who use it at a time of year that the op has determined that they shouldn't.

Sort of thing that gets my back up. I don't understand why so many people are bothered that people who want to talk about Christmas should do so on a topic specifically for that purpose. It's like ridiculing campers for going on the camping topic just because it doesn't.personally interest you. How about a bit of live and let live?

Badders123 · 29/09/2015 17:36

Absolutely NO talk of GBBO til 3rd Sunday after lammastide :)

EponasWildDaughter · 29/09/2015 18:52

I have not set foot in a shop in December for years.

Getting that way here. Online all the way.

The year before last i did a fair bit of my xmas shopping online, starting in gasp October.

Last year i did 95% of it online! My god - How much less stress?! The boxes turn up, open them, pop the bits in the cupboard, tick another thing off the list. The fact i was doing it early meant there was time to chase up or return anything, but that didn't happen.

I ordered a present or 2 every couple of weeks until i was all done by the beginning of Dec. I got free delivery on most of it, plus much of it was cheaper than the high st. equivalent, and more unusual in some cases. A change from the same old high st stuff everyone's seen.

The most stress last year came with the big food shop. Ugh. Cant find a way round that.

DisappointedOne · 29/09/2015 19:37

disappointed I can't imagine anything worse, when in the family we also have - between 30th Nov and 28th December - 6 peoples birthdays as well as Christmas. Being organised enough now to have listed all the xmas presents and ticking off a list when purchased stops me spending my precious few weekends off work in December panic buying and purchasing things which people probably wouldn't like.

Lots of birthdays in October here - just one of the reasons that shops full of Xmas shite from September pisses me off.

I don't buy any Xmas presents, booze or much in the way of special food. I only do a roast once a year so get an online food order for that in one for whichever date we have our winter gathering (never 25th Dec). And then it's new year, and DH's birthday a couple of days later. It really couldn't be more stress free. No arguments about who is going where, no demands for presents from an imaginary fat man, no panic buying, no giving or receiving presents that no one wants or needs. Bliss. Grin

milkmilklemonade12 · 29/09/2015 21:00

tut badders

I will not hear of such ungodly things before The Ascention of Mary!!
Actually though, we should ask the OP when we are Allowed.

MuddlingMackem · 29/09/2015 21:10

Unfortunately you're BU.

When I was young and single I didn't think about Christmas until Christmas Eve, and did a mega bloke-style shop-fest for everyone's presents on the one day.

Then I got older, and got married, but refused to do anything about Christmas until 1st December, after my dad's birthday was out of the way.

Then we had DC1, who arrived 6 days before Christmas. Now we start planning Christmas in the January sales. Argh!!
