To dislike "Radical Feminism"

I've got nothing against feminists that fight for womens rights and genuinely want the best the best for everyone and don't hate anyone, but "RadFems" tend to be full of bitterness and hatred. And I'm not just talking about kids, these are high profile, intelligent women with power and influence. Do you think it's unreasonable to dislike something where most people think men are inherantly evil and to be feared? Or do you think their hatred is fair and we should respect them for their good work in trying to make humans hate eath other even more?

Like, I said, I have nothing against Feminism, it's done a lot of great work down the years and still does, but "Rad Fem" and "Feminism" are too completly different things in my opinion. Is this a wrong conclusion?

Radical anything suggests over zealous and ridiculous.

lljkk · 25/09/2015 21:19

great user name, OP. Been with us long? reaches for popcorn be4 thread goes poof

Hamsolo · 25/09/2015 21:21

Erm... That's a weird post. I'd love to know who these radfems are in power and influence. I couldn't name one. I don't think you mean Theresa May...

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/09/2015 21:22

Rad fems don't hate men.

Not sure which supposed rad fems you are referencing.

LittleRedRidingHoodie1 · 25/09/2015 21:22

OP you don't sound very well informed and clearly want an argument or some drama. Maybe do some reading and ask people in a few decades when you've finished.

Shouldn't you be trying to drum up a conversation with the people who comment on The Mail Online? I'm sure you'll find plenty of your ilk there Smile.

antimatter · 25/09/2015 21:23

Why did you name change OP?

liptolinford · 25/09/2015 21:27

Do you think it's unreasonable to dislike something where most people think men are inherantly evil and to be feared?

No, it would not be unreasonable to dislike that approach. That's not radical feminism though.

catfordbetty · 25/09/2015 21:27

This isn't the most finely-honed political theory that I've ever read.

MsMarthaMay · 25/09/2015 21:31

Can you give examples op??

bessarabiantiger · 25/09/2015 21:31

I just read "I'm not racist...but..."

MitzyLeFroof · 25/09/2015 21:35

I heard the thread title being read in the voice of Mr Cholmondley Warner.

Autumnnights1 · 25/09/2015 21:35

Why state "radical" anything though? Isn't being a feminist enough? I think anyone who does is setting themselves up for an argument.

Autumnnights1 · 25/09/2015 21:38

Therefore the crux of things become lost and feminists appear aggressive.

I have met one or two women who don't want equality, but want dominance. One woman I know was one of the very first women priest. She had a rule that the head chorister in the church choir has to be confirmed and able to sing the treble line. (Very few boys can meet that requirement because you have to 13 to be confirmed.) She cannot see how this is indirect sexism and as bad as the days when only men could be priests.

TheyGotTheMustardOut · 25/09/2015 21:41

Yes, you are being unreasonable.

What makes you think RadFems hate and/or fear men?

PurpleDaisies · 25/09/2015 21:42

Anything specific prompted this thread op?

Autumnnights1 · 25/09/2015 21:43

In your eyes it doesnt Buffy but if you want to get a point across to the rest of society then Id drop the "radical" and just say "feminist" its enough.

SenecaFalls · 25/09/2015 21:43

OP, you (and a few others on this thread) clearly don't understand the "radical" part of radical feminism.

Borka · 25/09/2015 21:44

From wikipedia: Radical feminism is a perspective within feminism that calls for a radical reordering of society in which male supremacy is eliminated in all social and economic contexts. Radical feminists seek to abolish patriarchy by challenging existing social norms and institutions, rather than through a purely political process. This includes challenging traditional gender roles, opposing the sexual objectification of women, and raising public awareness about rape and violence against women.

What's not to like about that?

cailindana · 25/09/2015 21:44

Autumn do you understand what the word radical means?

Really tired, wow that's really awful. I mean I know 85,000+ women a year are raped by men but that's nothing in comparison to some boys not being able to be head chorister!

ghostyslovesheep · 25/09/2015 21:44

okay - well don't be one then - problem solved

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 25/09/2015 21:46

Give us a bit more detail about your experiences with Radfems, OP.
