Infuriated by colleague that has sushi, fruit and soft drink every lunchtime

Sazzas · 18/09/2015 18:56

They are all plastic wrapped, with plastic fork for fruit, plastic bottle for soft drink, plastic container for soy sauce. It's like a mountain of plastic every lunchtime. Really pisses me of.

Now they are bringing in that plastic bag law however plastic bags are so thin nowadays and all the main supermarket s decompose in 2-5 years. But all this plastic packaging will not decompose for a long time.

Yes I know some will say its none of my business, but rubbish, wastefulness and landfill are my business IMO.

Rant over!

LOL what a typical 'not my problem' response. By your reckoning crackheads and stoners are infallible bystanders then?
Change is only dictated by the consumer ffs. If one decides wisely not to buy so much of ones cocaine, then the cocaine man does not make much money and stops making such large quantities comprendes?
Unbelievable I know. It's so easy to pass the blame dear.

TARSCOUT · 04/01/2020 23:55

It is the producers you should be infuriated with, not the buyer- they can't help how it is wrapped.

whywhywhy6 · 05/01/2020 00:03

I’m with the OP. It’s all our problem.

whywhywhy6 · 05/01/2020 00:04

Even after all these years Wink

MrsEricBana · 05/01/2020 00:14

Of course the buyer can choose to buy the banana not the plastic wrapped fruit salad and its single use spoon. This is everyone's problem. Would be good to hear from the OP 5 years down the line.

lcarmichael · 05/01/2020 00:20

@TARSCOUT so are you implying humans don't have freewill now? If they know that something they are going to buy is bad then they have a moral choice to NOT buy it.
If I know that buying pure bred puppy for £500 means that I am funding cruetly and abuse then I don't buy the fckng puppy, but instead pay a visit to the RSPCA for £50. Not too complicated but you probably drive a diesel engine?

lcarmichael · 05/01/2020 00:26

@MrsEricBana Exactly. Regardless of plastic use, I look for loose fruit and veg of any kind bc it's actually significantly cheaper, ridiculous. If everyone did the same would they stock ready sliced mushrooms and peeled satsumas shrink wrapped in cling film? Erm Nope.
Not to mention chopped fruit is less fresh and less healthy.

overnightangel · 05/01/2020 00:33

As with anything, fanatics put off the general populace

cheesemongery · 05/01/2020 00:38

Its just annoying to see how much packaging is wasted each day, my children and my children's children will still have all this plastic packaging littering the earth in their lifetimes while the government barely scrapes the surface with the bag rule that they've been planning for years.

People like you drive me mad. How old are you? Do you know what CFC's are and why they were banned?

More than 30 years ago I was studying the environmental impact of CFC's, fossil fuels and carbon emissions on the ozone layer as part of my university dissertation - having been studying it for 7 years previously at GCSE.

NOW people like you want to jump on and moan about plastic fucking cutlery.

What were you doing 30 years ago?

Leflic · 05/01/2020 00:38

I’m amazed at the vitriol towards the Op. If you saw someone throwing rubbish on the ground chances are you might comment. How us this different?
Sushi usually cones on black plastic which isn’t recyclable in the U.K. I heard.
It’s no good banging on about clomate change but still wanting to eat over packaged factory food everyday.

cheesemongery · 05/01/2020 00:40

I agree that every little helps - but it breaks my heart that we are too little too late and now you OP are attacking somebody for something you have only recently heard of.

As for eat a banana - I fucking hate bananas.

lcarmichael · 05/01/2020 00:53

@cheesemongery it doesn't matter, 30 years or 150 years ago the negative impact has been widely known for some time with little being done to minimise it.
Simply studying the effects doesn't help at all.
I'm not sure why you are attacking the OP when you apparently have the same concerns and values. What do you do that is so special are you completely plastic free and carbon neutral then??

PineappleDan · 05/01/2020 01:03

I'd love a bit of sushi. I'd be infuriated too, out of jealousy. Expensive auld stuff. Pity nearly all the salmon is farmed now, and not very healthy as a result.

spatchcock · 05/01/2020 01:05

I'm surprised and a bit depressed at this thread. Shows the difference between the UK and where I live (NZ) where people are actively choosing to eschew plastic. This conversation would not be met with as much vitriol here, that's for sure.

Sparklesocks · 05/01/2020 01:08

Christ this thread is from 2015, OP is long gone.

cheesemongery · 05/01/2020 01:09

What do you do that is so special are you completely plastic free and carbon neutral then??

I don't own a vehicle, I work within walking distance, I grow all my own fruit and veg. I compost.

What do you do?

lcarmichael · 05/01/2020 01:31

@cheesemongery
All of the above boom:P Sorry bout that... Moreover I can one up you and say my energy is nearly entirely derived from solar panels too soo.
I also do minimise my electrical appliances by not owning a freezer or TV.
Do you rely on mains electricity and gas?

mokapot · 05/01/2020 01:41

Just don’t have children. If you had one or more, you can’t talk about your personal carbon footprint being 0....bloody hypocrites

Yeahnah2020 · 05/01/2020 01:54

Loosen up @Sazzas just go about your own business and you’ll be much happier.

cheesemongery · 05/01/2020 02:03

@lcarmichael - quite the introduction to mn eh? Perfect in every way...

This is an unpleasant thing to deal with and I'm sorry, however it does all sound a bit hysterical and sensationalist to me. To be blunt it is the kind of complaint that undermines and overshadows women who are genuinely being sexually abused.
To blame the situation on the fact that 'most men don't respect women' and are obsessed with anal porn is misguided and irrational!
It seems highly unlikely that he is perfect in all other aspects and then suddenly is an "anal rapist".
If youve only been together for a few years then perhaps you don't truly know each other and your positive judgements of him might be the product of him hiding his true nature, but these are the things to iron out before having 2 children with someone.
By agreeing to try it twice, and then considering it a third time you have sent completely the wrong message. Saying NO the first time is not ambiguous in any way.

cheesemongery · 05/01/2020 02:05

Bold fail, but you get the message.

Must be great to be an echo warrior and hater of troubled women.

cheesemongery · 05/01/2020 02:06

eco ffs.

Butchyrestingface · 05/01/2020 02:06

@cheesemongery

Wrong thread?

lcarmichael · 05/01/2020 02:22

@cheesemongery Bold fail, but you get the message.
Must be great to be an echo warrior and hater of troubled women.

You swore at the OP and attacked them claiming they drive you mad like they are the unreasonable one, you seem to be the hateful one here. I truly don't know what an echo warrier is...anyways.
I'm assuming you rely on mains electricity and don't have solar panels? I am also guessing the reposting of my entire message that I carefully read before posting means you have nothing else.

lcarmichael · 05/01/2020 02:25

@cheesemongery I meant to add thank you sincerely for taking the time to research my thoughts and wisdom on other subjects. To go to such time and trouble is thoughtful but perhaps strange and not appropriate to this thread?
