To be concerned about a man sitting outside my house for the past 5 hours?

As title.

I was making breakfast before I dashed out to work at 7.55 pm and a car with blacked out windows parks up on the pavement outside. A man sat there with an iPad.

I have just returned home for lunch 5.5 hours later and he is still here, still sat in the car with iPad. I am here on my own for the next few days as DP is away and it is freaking me out. It is a residential street but quiet as we are in the country.

Should I approach him?

Most people would have called the police by now, I would for sure.

Tartanbeachhut · 17/09/2015 16:32

Make sure you take photos of the car and him if you can, just in case.

KissingFish · 17/09/2015 16:32

He hasn't seen your every move if he's been sat outside your house while you've been out. Bit of an exaggeration.

SmugairleRoin · 17/09/2015 16:34

Glaring to let him know you're annoyed about it Grin
I think YABU to ring the police, but sure you're gonna do it anyway.

Jackie0 · 17/09/2015 16:34

No it's weird , 8 hours of weird

vestandknickers · 17/09/2015 16:38

Can't wait to hear what the police say!

Man sits in car. Shock

EponasWildDaughter · 17/09/2015 16:40

I bet he'll leave at ..... 6.30.

Place your bets :)

I think if he was still there after dark (9pm ish) i might ring 101.

beardsrock · 17/09/2015 16:41

It's weird.

Hope the OP is OK.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 17/09/2015 16:45

yes I will be phoning 101 as I am alone in the house and won't feel comfortable knowing he's outside

It's the ones you can't see you need to be worried about OP - they're everywhere!!!!

Whitechocolatetoblerone · 17/09/2015 16:46

Just got off the phone to police, I went upstairs as I was ringing them and I could see down into his car and on his lap he had a notepad and was taking notes. Just before my call connected to an operator he started up the car and drove off. Whilst on the phone he then drove past on the adjoining main road twice and reversed back again into our road, then turned right and went.

His reg no isn't detectable which police agree is worrying. They also agree that it is weird for a man to be sat for 8 hours on a residential street watching houses and taking notes.

They said that as they can't detect the no plate (which was 100% right, I checked it about 5 times whilst he was sat there) there isn't a lot they can do but they've logged call & said to ring if he comes back

Now I'm off it for dinner but am crapping myself at the thought of coming back tonight alone in case he's here Sad

CatThiefKeith · 17/09/2015 16:49

Nods sagely

He'll be a spy or similar then op. Do you have any neighbours that arrive home from the office by parachute and wear tight fitting black clothes?

DontDrinkandFacebook · 17/09/2015 16:50

Ooh how exciting.

This was a bit boring until he had fake plates. Now I'm gripped.

Cockbollocks · 17/09/2015 16:52

I would leave it until after work hours. He could be a sales rep doing all his paperwork.

Or a debt collector waiting for someone to come home? Or MI5? Or he now lives in his nice car outside your house?

Cockbollocks · 17/09/2015 16:53

Oh x-posted, now i would be worried Sad

Whitechocolatetoblerone · 17/09/2015 16:53

Why the fake plates if he's all innocent?

OP posts:
mysticlogistic · 17/09/2015 16:53

Ooh this is weird. Did you call 101 from your landline? Do you think he's got you tapped?

Whitechocolatetoblerone · 17/09/2015 16:56

No- from my mobile

OP posts:
SilverBirchWithout · 17/09/2015 17:00

I'm not convinced the police would share that info about the plates?

lorelei9 · 17/09/2015 17:00

try not to worry, OP. Whatever he's up to is not likely to have anything to do with you. I know what it's like to worry about stuff while living alone but it really won't be to do with you.

aren't the majority of attacks on women by their partners anyway?!

If he comes back, call 101, if it's a quiet evening they might be able to send someone round.

bingandflop · 17/09/2015 17:01

I would be worried too. Could you get a taxi home and if he is still there call the police again from the taxi before you get out?

Iwasbornin1993 · 17/09/2015 17:01

Very creepy that he left just as you were on the phone to the Police! I'm going with he's lost his job and doesn't want to tell his wife though...

vestandknickers · 17/09/2015 17:03

Fake plates you say? Definitely a spy then. Was pretending to read a newspaper but had eye holes cut out of it?

PacificDogwod · 17/09/2015 17:03

He's MI5

Sorry, not helpful.
How are you going to get home? Taxi? Friend? Driving yourself?
Could somebody see you to your door or at least be with you until you've confirmed he's no longer there?

Here's hoping it'll all turn out to be totally harmless and a one-off.

DontDrinkandFacebook · 17/09/2015 17:06

Unless he is the police and they just don't want to tell you? Perhaps he intercepted your phone call and upon realising you were phoning to report him drove away so they didn't have to go through the charade of coming out to check on him.
