To think a portion of fruit and veg isn't that big

Constantly people say how the portion of fruit or veg needed is big and people don't often get one in a meal. I've just created a dish with at least four portions with my tomato pasta lunch.

200g of tomatoes
2 large onions
80g button mushrooms
100 mung bean fettuccine

Then also but not enough for a portion
2 cloves of garlic
Bunch of basil
1 tbps tumeric
1 TSP Kayne pepper
A pinch off kelp
Handful of k olives

Onions were saluted in water too, no fat here. All this fits in one bowl and was just right for my lunch.

Not to mention, in regards to Paleo, that almost none of the plants and animals around now are the same as what would have been around for our Paleolithic ancestors. They've been domesticated and bred into entirely different things. Broccoli, cauliflower and kale were all one plant 10,000 odd years ago.

Hmm and where does the " wet" part of a mostly veg dish go when you count stewed thing?

I have just had lunch of a soup mug full ( almost 500ml/g if I have to buy soup for work the pot doesn't quite fit in).

Today was a home cooked " wet " chilli. Not soup, but a chunky stew type thing - many sorts of beans, peppers, onions, celery, carrot. I reckon I must be at 4-5 portions but who knows ( and they are probably cancelled out by the 1 hot chorizo that was used as the base of the dish being a very bad preserved meat thing) .

Ah well. Health full or not it was yum and will keep me going till a biscuit moment hits later :)

Having finished lunch, thoughts turn to tea LOL

I like turmeric but the staining issue irks me. Will no one think of the Tupperware?

Although Tupperware is probably frowned on in 'clean' company. Toxic free plastic radical thingamebobs or sum'fin.

I just had a one slice sarnie of processed white bread, processed ham, processed cheese and some branston
it was yummy

MumSnotBU · 15/09/2015 12:57

I just had half an onion, a red pepper, a little yellow pepper, some garlic, a beetroot, some peas and some leftover pork and chicken stir fried. Just because that's what's in the fridge. I do eat plenty veg but just because I like it, not as a performance art.

specialsubject · 15/09/2015 13:05

looks really nice to me - lot of veg-dodgers here. I'd lose the seaweed though.

I've got home-grown onions which are under half the size of the tasteless monsters you buy in the shops, so 2 peeled and fried in olive oil is great for lunch.

cooking is processing. Live with it.

shouldIapply · 15/09/2015 13:17

I just had a homemade chocolate and hazelnut muffin. It was delicious.

ouryve · 15/09/2015 13:20

Have you been hacked, Talk? Shock

GlitzAndGigglesx · 15/09/2015 13:21

I googled the mung bean thing. I'm Shock at the price.

ouryve · 15/09/2015 13:22

And I've just had a bowl of M&S paella. Salty as fuck but carb heaven after a day of dodgy guts, not helped by looking at pictures of boiled onions in spicy mud flavoured water.

nope, its me Smile fasted yesterday. spent the morning at the gym. fancied a small portion of junk for lunch Grin

Helenluvsrob · 15/09/2015 15:14

Talk. What is this one slice sarnie of which you speak? are you not utterly starving already?

Ta1kinPeace · 15/09/2015 15:23

Helen
Nope. I'm used to saving most of my intake for supper - which will be something involving chicken and vegetables probably.

You lie. Branston is GROSS!

For lunch I had:
Mixed salad leaves (1P)
Carrot (1P)
Beetroot (1P)
Green beans (1 P)
Mixed thai salad with cabbage and sugar snap peas and other stuff (I'l take that as 1P)
Spoon of couscous
Small spoon of pasta salad
1 egg
balsamic vin

Then I had a crispy cream donut for someones birthday and a cup of tea,

CaptainKit · 15/09/2015 18:27

YABU for creating an AIBU thread just to humble brag your oh so healthy lunch.

Biscuit

(the biscuit is for me. I've not had dinner yet!)

JanetBlyton · 15/09/2015 18:54

People get too worried about what others eat. Eat what you want!

For me good fats are very good and to say a meal is somehow good because of lack of fat defies all recent science! It's the biggest mistake the NHS has made in 40 years and led to people being as fat as a pig and eating loads of sugar and carbs.

Reckon I'm only on for 2 portions of fruit and veg today. I'll probably live to tell the tale.

JanetBlyton · 17/09/2015 07:28

You can get all you need without any fruit and veg from things like liver, kidneys, meat etc actually. Humans are very adaptable. Eskimoes lived without many vegetables and were very healthy. Although most of us feel better if we have some veg.

MaidOfStars · 17/09/2015 11:11

Inuits eat some vegetable matter, so that's not really supporting your premuse that humans can live without any Hmm

Oldraver · 17/09/2015 13:15

People that resort to derogatory jibes to make a point, probably don't have a point.

And you refer to Brit Mner's....is that not a jibe ?

TheBeautifulAndTheDamned · 17/09/2015 14:47

I don't think 2 onions is excessive but I do question the mix of strong ingredients.

Annapurnacircuit · 17/09/2015 14:55

It doesn't really appeal to me but I do think everyone has been a bit harsh to the OP! Was only her lunch Grin.

TheCrowFromBelow · 17/09/2015 15:11

huge manatee that is amazing, I think you could sell those on Etsy Grin

VeganCow · 17/09/2015 15:21

OP it looks lovely :)
Off to look up the fettucine.
