To think a portion of fruit and veg isn't that big

Constantly people say how the portion of fruit or veg needed is big and people don't often get one in a meal. I've just created a dish with at least four portions with my tomato pasta lunch.

200g of tomatoes
2 large onions
80g button mushrooms
100 mung bean fettuccine

Then also but not enough for a portion
2 cloves of garlic
Bunch of basil
1 tbps tumeric
1 TSP Kayne pepper
A pinch off kelp
Handful of k olives

Onions were saluted in water too, no fat here. All this fits in one bowl and was just right for my lunch.

Congratulations.

I hope you live forever. It looks minging. Grin

MaidOfStars · 14/09/2015 14:23

You ate two large onions for lunch? Also, where is the basil?

Two onions?

maybebabybee · 14/09/2015 14:25

Good for you. Looks and sounds bloody horrible Confused

What exactly is the point of this post?

Blueberry234 · 14/09/2015 14:28

That is a huge portion of food though, and 2 onions, hope you work alone

DriverSurpriseMe · 14/09/2015 14:30

What on earth is mung bean fettuccine?

I'd rather not eat pasta than eat fake pasta made from mung beans.

RatOnnaStick · 14/09/2015 14:30

I am laughing at 2 onions for lunch Grin. I'm sure it tastes very nice, OP, in fact its right up my street in terms of lunch that I can't be arsed to make but aspire to but 2 onions? REally?

Rufusgy · 14/09/2015 14:31

Well it was delicious.

What can I say I love onions. I use no packets for flavour and these often use lots on onion.

I didn't think it was that big, calorie wise its not huge.

What is 'mung bean fettuccine'? Is that pasta made from mung beans and does it count as one of your 7-10 a day?

It looks lovely, no idea why people are picking on the onions Confused - they don't smell once they're cooked

Jackie0 · 14/09/2015 14:31

I eat most things but I'm afraid I'd rather go hungry than eat that.
What's with the " no fat here"?
If you're concerned about weight gain its the carbs you need to worry about.

ouryve · 14/09/2015 14:31

Fart-astic.

Why the hell do you have mung bean "fettucini", olives and turmeric in the same dish. Sounds pretty confused (and indigestible)

MaidOfStars · 14/09/2015 14:32

no idea why people are picking on the onions

Two!

Large ones!

Onions.

You'll be farting like a fire cracker after eating two boiled onions with your lunch.

I have to say though, it doesn't look great.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 14/09/2015 14:38

You might as well just make (or 'create') a nice salad, surely?

Tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, peppers, maybe a few olives and feta and herbs, and some pasta/cous cous mixed in if you need filling up? It'd taste nice too.

WorktoLive · 14/09/2015 14:38

A portion of fruit or veg is 80g, which isn't really that big, but plenty of people still don't manage to eat much, for various reasons.

I eat hardly any fruit (one or two portions a week, max) but do probably have 400 g of veg of various types on most days.

That portion sounds quite large though, and would be more than I could eat in one go.

Stand by for queries about the protein content OP. Although I admit that I have no idea what mung bean fettucine is and guess that it could have lots of protein in?

DriverSurpriseMe · 14/09/2015 14:38

And a teaspoon of cayenne pepper?

Mother of god, I can handle spicy food, but a whole teaspoon in a single bowl of food? I'm not sure you have any tastebuds OP Grin

Frequency · 14/09/2015 14:39

Why did you salute the onions?

I normally just cook mine. Are they better for you if you honor their sacrifice in some way before you eat them?

shadowfax07 · 14/09/2015 14:39

Onions were saluted in water

Sorry but this made me giggle. Smile

IsabellaofFrance · 14/09/2015 14:40

Gwyneth, is that you??

SaucyJack · 14/09/2015 14:40

I'd give it a go. Just a Googled mung bean fettuccine and am intrigued.

tabulahrasa · 14/09/2015 14:41

Well I suppose onions must be fairly important to you if you have 2 in every meal...maybe you would salute them?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 14/09/2015 14:41

You must proper stink. Two large onions!!! Shock

Rufusgy · 14/09/2015 14:43

Mung bean f is just made from mung beans and water. Its amazing stuff, great for clean eaters.

43g of protein in a 100g serving + all the protein from the other stuff makes it a very protein rich meal.

Ha for the typos!

Onions make others toot? Not moi

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 14/09/2015 14:43

The turmeric in it sounds weird

squoosh · 14/09/2015 14:45

I presume the saluted is meant to be sauteed. Well you can't sauté anything without fat.
