Brushing teeth in the shower...

Flingingmelon · 14/09/2015 08:41

I'm teaching DS he can brush his teeth in the shower, as my mum taught me. It all goes down the plug hole, the head gets cleaned regularly, no problems.

DH found out and went nuts. He says it's disgusting as disgusting as the bathroom sink after he's brushed his?
In the interests of household harmony I know I need to stop.

But more importantly, who's right?

Grim.

Uncomfortable and inconvenient too when there's a basin right there with handy little places to put your brush and paste.

whatdoIget · 14/09/2015 09:13

I need to look in the mirror so I can see I've cleaned all my teeth. I don't think it's disgusting to clean them in the shower though I wee in the shower

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2015 09:13

It is not 'spitting in a public place' unless your shower is in the middle of the street. Confused

Flingingmelon · 14/09/2015 09:15

We do it whilst my conditioner is happening and he's two so it's really about getting him to copy me.

You only get spit on yourself if you don't aim properly.

And the potty training book actively encourages weeing in the shower...hmm...

Weeing in the shower is a no from me.

I do floss/Waterpik at the sink because I need a mirror for that.

FruSirkaOla · 14/09/2015 09:16

I don't do it either, but I can't see the issue with brushing teeth in the shower.

BrideOfWankenstein · 14/09/2015 09:16

How is it yuk? Please explain me.
I brush my teeth in the shower while conditioning my hair. I save water and time doing that. I taught my DS to do that and my DP tried it couple of weeks ago. Don't know whether he's converted or not.

diddl · 14/09/2015 09:19

How does it save water?

When I condition my hair I wash myself whilst the conditioner is in.

Seems a long time to me for the shower to be running just for teeth cleaning.

RiverTam · 14/09/2015 09:20

I wouldn't do it myself as I don't like the warm water but there's nothing actually wrong with it, I can't see how on earth it could be considered disgusting! I do think its wasting water though.

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2015 09:21

I never thought of saving water. Just time.

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2015 09:22

Warm/hot water is better for cleaning anything.

BrideOfWankenstein · 14/09/2015 09:22

Btw, I keep small mirror on the shelf behind my shower gels etc. I started using it when washed hair dye off my forehead violently, but it's also very good for brushing teeth

RiverTam · 14/09/2015 09:25

I guess if you wash your hair every day it's not wasting so much water (though I thought conditioner these days didn't need to be left to soak in?), but I only wash my hair every 3/4 days. So for me it wouldn't save any time and would waste water. Still not actually disgusting though.

BrideOfWankenstein · 14/09/2015 09:25

I can't wash myself when conditioning because my hair falls on my soapy back and conditioner washes off with soap. So I wash myself before conditioning.

johnImonlydancing · 14/09/2015 09:25

I've never heard of this either but I don't see why it's disgusting.

I'm a dentist and I brush in the shower whilst my hair is conditioning. The bonus is that you can clean your toothbrush well.

MN has odd ideas about what's disgusting.

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2015 09:32

What do you do with the toothbrush after brushing when you're washing hair/body?

Put it on the little shelf up high in the shower cubicle.

coveredinsnot · 14/09/2015 09:33

Hopefully just drop the toothbrush on the shower floor then piss on it Grin

GloopyGhoul · 14/09/2015 09:35

Uncomfortable and inconvenient too when there's a basin right there with handy little places to put your brush and paste.

I now have the rather wonderful mental image of somebody huffing, sighing, and rather crossly getting undressed and into the shower each time they want to brush their teeth!

You do realise it's not an either/or situation?!

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2015 09:38

what do you mean Gloopy? Shock I brush 3 times a day and shower every time-you mean I don't have to?

Not really, it's just the morning one, I resort to the handy basin for the other two. Grin

goblinhat · 14/09/2015 09:41

I have tried it, but I don't find it comfortable. The minty vapours wafted up by hot water stings my eyes.

MaidOfStars · 14/09/2015 09:43

I don't find it grim, but I just don't have free time in the shower.

Get in and get wet.
Shampoo hair and rinse.
Put on conditioner, plaster hair on top of head.
Wash face.
Wash body.
Rinse conditioner.
Get out.

There's not a time when my hands aren't in use.

Jw35 · 14/09/2015 09:46

I don't do this but I can't see why it matters
