With 59% of the vote (first round).

I've just been following the live BBC broadcast and just wanted them to get on with it.

No doubt people on both sides of the political spectrum will be overjoyed with the result.

Will the UK vote for;

Abolition of the monarchy. no
Exit from Europe. increasingly likely
Privatisation of many industries. probably not
Increased immigration. no

YellowJerseyPan · 12/09/2015 14:56

There's a fantastic piece going round the web that states "What Corbyn said." and "What they said he said". It would be funny if people didn't actually believe what they are told he said.

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 12/09/2015 14:56

As someone who hasn't followed the leadership election at all Blush would anyone please be willing to give me a fool's summary of Corbyn's values and some inkling of why he's considered unelectable as PM?

I know that makes me sound apathetic and dim.

Jb291 · 12/09/2015 14:57

I have to say I am a bit politically ambiguous. I haven't seen honesty,I haven't seen any evidence of political integrity and I haven't seen anyone who I genuinely believe in voting for in a very long time. Something in Tom Watson's speech made me think that he and Corbyn might actually do what they promise to do, and they might be a better bet than the Tories. This is just my opinion. Call me naive but I'm so sick and tired of being given endless election promises which are casually broken the minute that party gets into power.

mrstiggy · 12/09/2015 14:58

I was a bit of a floating voter. Brought up Labour, felt let down in recent years and voted more LibDem, Green, anyone who took my fancy. Never got as far as the Tory side though. Now I'm chuffed to bits about the new leader and feel more 'Labour' than I have in many years.
Labour need someone who is different. How many people don't vote as they say 'they are all the bloody same anyway'? Well, now they won't be and that can only be a good thing. If you prefer the way Conservatives do things then feel free to vote them back in next election, but if you don't - well now you have an option too.

Frequency · 12/09/2015 15:00

What Jennifer just said.

Although from the last 10 minutes on Google, I likes him. I'd vote for him in the GE.

I'm not sure I understand what all this about anti-semitism is? I get the Hamas/Hezbollah thing, Google explained that.

What's this about capping maximum wage? For who? Everyone? Public sector workers? Bankers

YellowJerseyPan · 12/09/2015 15:03

JC cleared up the anti semite thing on R4 a few weeks ago. Resolutely condemning the holocaust and declaring his beliefs in some detail about how all people should be treated. Nonetheless the Jc-fearful Tory press will still try to get something out of this dead issue.

RomiiRoo · 12/09/2015 15:04

RollerGirl, I agree that there won't be much space for women - not only the trade union issue - but much of Labour's history has been built on a traditional male breadwinner model.

salik, I think it was who asked - I would vote SNP before I vote for Corbyn, yes. I may have been swayed had Yvette Cooper won, maybe.

Someone referenced Germany up thread - Germany is not a socialist country, it has a social market economic model which is a different thing, it is a form of liberalism.

Dawndonnaagain · 12/09/2015 15:05

He has the biggest mandate in Labour leadership history and his own side are saying they're not with him. And this is why they lost. They want it their way, not our way.

YellowJerseyPan · 12/09/2015 15:09

From the Independent:

"My views are that the Holocaust was the most disgraceful and vile process of the history of the 20th century, if not the wider world and that has to be understood by successive generations and it has to be understood by all our children in schools,?? he said. ??That surely is important.

"The idea that I'm some kind of racist or anti-semitic person is beyond appalling, disgusting and deeply offensive. I have spent my life opposing racism. Until my dying day I will be opposed to racism in any form."

I think it's because of his support for a Palastinian state that he gets the stuff about being anti-semitic.

triathlon · 12/09/2015 15:10

I'm not a fan and think his approach would set the party back by about 30 years.

UnGoogleable · 12/09/2015 15:11

I know that makes me sound apathetic and dim Not at all, I'd like to read a good overview too. Neither apathetic and dim, rather the opposite - you want to learn more (as do I).

Why would Jews want to leave the UK? Can someone explain that to me? I thought he was inclusive, not divisive.

As for RollerGirl 's questions above, I dont know the answers to most, but as for 3. Do you think he can hold his own on the world stage? With leaders of USA, Russia etc - An articulate principled man, alongside another articulate principled man (Obama), and a corrupt bigot (Putin) - Absolutely!

Could he hold his own with Clinton (likely future president), Absolutely. How would he look next to any of the republican candidates threatening to run - he'd make them look like buffoons.

Do you think Boris, or Gideon would hold their own alongside Hilary Clinton? Can you imagine ??

Andante58 · 12/09/2015 15:12

The Queen must be worried - if Corbyn wins the next election she'll be out on her ear.
Apparently North Korea are allowing a few tourists in these days. I might pop over for a few days and get a feel of the place just so I know what to expect.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 12/09/2015 15:14

Don't be ridiculous Andante.

YellowJerseyPan · 12/09/2015 15:14

The monarch is something he has stated recently is a fight he isn't bothered with. Other much more pressing matters like poverty, inequality, housing crisis, education and training crisis NHS privatisation etc.

Stupid he isn't.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 12/09/2015 15:15

Excellent news! Just been to the London refugee march, and many were thrilled there too.

YellowJerseyPan · 12/09/2015 15:15

Andante - off you pop then.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 12/09/2015 15:16

Better than the fascist state we are living in Andante Smile

RollerGirl7 · 12/09/2015 15:16

I doubt Corbin would hold his own at all, I'd be worried that a woman like Hilary Clinton would make him (and therefore UK) look like old fashioned, unrealistic & sexist (again I might be completely unfairly labelling as this but it's the impression I get from him).

To me he's like an over excited kid that ignoring the reality of things, just keep repeating socialist mantras and he very much needs someone more serious to do the grown up work and wind him in. Imo.

UnGoogleable · 12/09/2015 15:16

"The idea that I'm some kind of racist or anti-semitic person is beyond appalling, disgusting and deeply offensive. I have spent my life opposing racism. Until my dying day I will be opposed to racism in any form."

Yes, I thought I'd read that somewhere. How dare they paint him as an anti-semite just because some of those that he associated with may be.

If we started projecting the views of those they associate with onto the Tories, we could paint them some very disturbing colours indeed.

Garrick · 12/09/2015 15:17

Just sharing the love and hope :)

RollerGirl7 · 12/09/2015 15:19

ungoogle - the best way to judge a man (or woman) is by the company he keeps..?

YellowJerseyPan · 12/09/2015 15:20

Though I'm slightly concerned we are being led by Tom and Jerry.....Grin

Dawndonnaagain · 12/09/2015 15:20

I'm not a fan and think his approach would set the party back by about 30 years.
Thank god for that. Back to our roots, hopefully and fighting policies that are worse than a great deal of those that Thatcher dreamed up.

I might pop over for a few days and get a feel of the place just so I know what to expect.
Bye.
