Blackadder

Am I being unreasonable to not want them to bother making a new series of Blackadder? The series set in the First World War was quite lame compared to the others and the millennium episode was far from tv gold.

The Rock Star one might work if they had Bill Nighy as Simon Dee.

ComposHatComesBack · 23/08/2015 18:10

ppea fair point, but there weren't 70 year old rock bands in the 60s and all prevous blackadders have had a historical setting and a fair bit of the humour has been extracted from that.

A jazz combo or big band who are struggling for work because of the explosion in pop music might work.

SaucyJack · 23/08/2015 18:13

"What is the matter with you Darling?" never gets old.

ComposHatComesBack · 23/08/2015 18:20

Jason I think that might be the bestvofva bad bunch of ideas. Blackadder isolated in an insignificant role in MI5 during the cold war.

ppeatfruit · 24/08/2015 08:02

Yes I didn't read your post properly Compost Blush. How about a struggling Stones type band in the 80s or 90s, so roughly their own ages, but pretending to be younger with toupees, wigs etc.

ComposHatComesBack · 24/08/2015 08:23

Yeah i think that could work too and have an element of the tragic about it. So long as Hugh Laurie doesn't regard it as a chance to show off his musical skills.

BigRedBall · 24/08/2015 08:28

I thought the Prince George ones were the funniest. I know the dictionary episode lines off by heart Grin.

BigRedBall · 24/08/2015 08:32

Oh and I agree, a new series will be shit. I really hope they don't do a modern history series, like in the 60's or 70's.
I saw RA in Horrible Histories the other day as King Henry; Dd recognised him as Mr Bean. It really does suit him being dressed in olden day attire.

ppeatfruit · 24/08/2015 08:59

You reminded me of him in that black leather doublet in The Tudor one!!!!! Stop it BigRedBall Grin

ppeatfruit · 24/08/2015 09:00

Oh the actor luvvies were soo funny in the Regency one too.

Andrewofgg · 24/08/2015 09:07

The First World War series was the best; the last episode the best of the series; and the last sequence of that episode was some of the finest television ever made. Let it rest there.

Allstoppedup · 24/08/2015 09:22

I for one hope they do a new series interfrastically!Grin

Usually a bit apprehensive about them messing with 'classics' but was pleasantly surprised with the (fairly) recent return of Red Dwarf so will hold judgement until I see any new BA.

I also love the WW1 series and think it's a very clever, funny poignant example of British comedy.

With regards to Rowan Atkinson being offensive towards those with ASD, I've heard him discuss in interviews his own struggles with both speech (he suffered from a terrible stutter and his over pronunciation/speech patterns are often strategies to manage this) and social difficulties. I'm not saying they are the same thing but I certainly wouldn't consider him to be mocking anyone with his style/characters.

YakTriangle · 24/08/2015 09:27

The rumour about the Blackadder 60s rock band series has been around for about twenty years. I kind of hope they don't do it. I think the new Dads Army film looks balls too, but not because I think it's a sacred cow that should be left alone, more because I hated it in the first place so I'm really not likely to enjoy it now just because they've put Bill Nighy in it.

borisgudanov · 24/08/2015 09:31

"I don't think it's going to be compulsory to watch it."

Who's Queen?

Kryten2X4B523P · 24/08/2015 09:44

"First I'm going to have a little drinky...and then I'm going to execute the whole bally lot of you!"

CalonDu · 24/08/2015 09:54

Hmm. It always seems to be Tony Robinson who claims a new Blackadder is 'imminent'...

“I do think a new series of Blackadder is on the cards,” the comedian and TV presenter told the Sun. “I have spoken to virtually all the cast about this now. The only problem is Hugh’s fee. He’s a huge star now – or so he’d like to think.”

Baldrick. Once longed for a giant turnip of his own, but instead ended up with a massive shoulder chip.

Pipbin · 24/08/2015 11:05

I agree with you Calon. Now that I have read the item it seems to be nothing more than speculation really.

ppeatfruit · 24/08/2015 11:09

But you might actually enjoy it with Bill Nighy in it Yak worth a try IMHO; it might be better than the original Grin. (That wouldn't be difficult would it) I like it but it can be a bit lame sometimes , it's the characters that make it.

Gruntfuttock · 24/08/2015 11:36

borisgudanov "Who's Queen?"

Grin Perfect reply.

plopstar · 24/08/2015 11:52

As much as a bit of me can't help but be excited ...I just can't imagine it without Flash. The Third was my favourite. But there isn't one series I couldn't sit and watch back to back. I just also worry it will be like when a sports star retires at the top of their game and then makes an awful comeback and that is then how they are remembered. And...IT WOULD BE COMPULSORY VIEWING at least in this house

worriedmum100 · 24/08/2015 11:58

Don't slouch darling. ...

ShelaghTurner · 24/08/2015 13:48

They won't do another one, there's been talk about it since the end of S4 and it never comes to anything. In a million years that team won't get back together, they have more sense than to try to resurrect it. And the 1960's one has been rumoured since about 1990!

But totally disagree about BGF, it was such a good series.

DrDreReturns · 24/08/2015 13:58

"We've got to have some secrets, darling!"

My favourite is the Elizabethan series, I don't think anything funnier has ever been made. Each episode is hilarious.

squizita · 24/08/2015 14:25

It would only work if it was a Zombie apocalypse one and Lord Flashheart burst out of the ground, re-animated, with some quip about these DAMN women all want a piece of me, WOOF.

NotAWhaleOmeletteInSight · 24/08/2015 14:37

I would LOVE another Blackadder series. Although I may be thicker than a whale omelette.
