I'd like to know who the moderators are.

Its a website. Its not a human person being attacked.

You do know it was humans on the receiving end of the swatting attack? And that some of those humans were tiny humans who had no business being next to hulking great armed coppers and guns loaded with live ammunition? Do you also know that there is the potential for people to actually die, that accidents happen? And it's not done and over, the effects carry on because the children want to talk about it and blue flashing lights go past the window and you think oh fuck, is it happening again and you can't settle properly into bed without wondering if your peace is going to be disturbed. Has that fucker on the Internet had enough of yanking your chain or is he going to have another go of it? Are you being left in peace or is it all part of a false sense of security.

You have no clue what you're talking about and to suggest that the people being swatted should accept some of the blame is dickheadery of the highest order.

I suggest 20something that you take your blog full of your vile opinions, you print it out, and then you roll it up and shove it up your sanctimonious backside, page by page.

You have really fucking upset me with your comments, you ignorant cow.

DontTellThePrincessBride · 20/08/2015 18:48

And now I have to name change again. Fucks sake. No fucker had better steal my name.

I'm sorry to anyone offended by my post. If it crosses into the territory of personal attack, please delete it but seriously!? Are people really that narrowsighted?

thehypocritesoaf · 20/08/2015 18:50

Oh it's hard trying to be the next Katie Hopkins. At least she gets paid for being an arse.

YellowTulips · 20/08/2015 18:50

I'm determined to find a way to use "I am a social commentator" at work tomorrow.

Maybe it's game for the day Smile

One point for use of the phrase

Two points if you say it without anyone laughing at you

Three points if someone agrees with you

Naw, I think it's as simple as some immature kids wanted to have some fun and make a name for themselves at the expense of a popular website. Swatting is a typical "prank" to target people, it doesn't have to be anything personal.

This site was targeted because (in a troll's mind) it's a fun target with a huge user base where they can see the immediate results of their fun (forum threads, users panicking, mass emails, news reports).

I doubt it was a personal vendetta anymore than idiots throwing porn up on neopet's is.

He had better hope he used a good proxy server, because once you start swatting someone as a prank, you get the feds involved.

Twunk · 20/08/2015 18:54

According to her comments Mumsnet has an anti-dad policy.

I'd like to see this policy.

oddfodd · 20/08/2015 18:59

I was quite well-known on here under a previous incarnation and I noticed someone today has got a new name which is one letter different to that name.

FFS. She's ruining my life!!!! Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry

MistressMerryWeather · 20/08/2015 19:00

I hope your family keep safe PrincessBride. Flowers

It must have been awful.

Please don't let some silly blogger with an anti-Mumsnet agenda upset you further, she's not worth it.

YellowTulips · 20/08/2015 19:01

I assume she meant anti-dad agenda...but hey let's not get pedantic about it. One word is as good as another (even when it has a totally different meaning).

Never let accuracy get in the way of a blog post or fail to forget that if shit gets a hit it's then it's all good Wink.

YellowTulips · 20/08/2015 19:03

Bugger I've been contaminated!

Apologies - my english went all 20 there Shock

ElderlyKoreanLady · 20/08/2015 19:04

oddfod you must immediately demand their name and address from HQ! Nothing short of compliance is acceptable!!!

howtorebuild · 20/08/2015 19:06

My English is poor. I don't mind constructive criticism. It's the only way to communicate on mn, and on the whole most posters are kind. I also don't go around writing blogs. Why try to earn a living via a route that isn't your strong point. Unless this is the first time she had this pointed out to her?

Iamasocialommentator · 20/08/2015 19:16

Umm - not sure about this new name. Might have to revert back to YellowTulips :-)

Queenbean · 20/08/2015 19:18

PrincessBride Flowers

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 20/08/2015 19:20

I left her what I thought was a fairly reasonable comment suggesting the MN hackers might not be the sort of people she'd want associate with her blog. Looks like I'm a big meanie too - she's deleted it. I'm hurt.

DontTellThePrincessBride I know it's not easy, but ignore her. She seems to be so desperate for publicity it's clouded her judgement. I hope you're all doing okay!

YellowTulips · 20/08/2015 19:21

Phew - that's better....

PrincessBride - sounds horrific Flowers

ElderlyKoreanLady · 20/08/2015 19:22

You know what oddfod, you should blog about it, stew for a year and a half, then blog about it again.

That'll learn 'em!

oddfodd · 20/08/2015 19:25

I might just do that EKL (oh I did so love that thread - I was in a rotten hotel room somewhere feeling bleak when I read it)

JeffreysMummyisCross · 20/08/2015 19:36

There are some great blogs out there. The ones that are carefully-researched, informative, are written in an engaging way, and engage constructively with their readership.

Unfortunately there is significantly more in the way of dross. Plenty of ill-informed opinion masquerading as fact. Self-aggrandising bloggers deluded in the belief that anyone should actually care about their frankly uninteresting opinions. Where in real life, other people would quickly give the blogger's opinions and arguments short shift, the blog allows these tedious bores an extended monologue. And then they simply delete any comments which point out their idiocy.

Ah, the internet. What a time to be alive!

BeatrixVBurgund · 20/08/2015 19:51

To be fair to Typecast (the blogger from the initial thread), she is actually a good blogger, creative and very amusing. Funnily enough, we clashed on that thread, and now I consider her to be a good friend. We don't agree on Mumsnet, but we do agree on many other topics.

I don't like to critique other bloggers, because I know how hurtful I'd find it, if someone were to correct my mistakes. However, it is rather galling when people give bloggers a bad name by publishing badly written posts. I don't demand sparkling prose, but it's not too much to expect a "writer" to have a reasonably good grasp of grammar and syntax (and now I'm worried I've made a mistake in this post!). And for them to go back and proof-read to find any mistakes.

Blogging is coming back, with lots of young people using Tumblr or doing video blogs, and many of the old blogging guard are writing for proper grown-up sites now.

Schlong
it was also my granny's name, so seemed fitting!

RaspberryOverload · 20/08/2015 19:55
