URGENT: New data leak

KitKat1985 · 19/08/2015 21:08

New data has just been leaked on the DadSec page - all the Mumsnet partner companies.

This is a huge breach and must have come from within your server as this wouldn't have just been phished.

I darednt! Just look for #dadsec on twitter it comes up with most recent posts...profile is red man with cup

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 20/08/2015 00:26

If you google the name of the offending party, it's one of the first links.

Surely another and very simple explanation for the dual leak is that a MNHQ staffer with client contact emails (direct or cc'd) used the same password for their MN login as they did their email account, thus granting the phisher access?

SniffsAndSneezes · 20/08/2015 00:28

Could someone explain the Jeffrey thing to me?

Millliii · 20/08/2015 00:32

Watching

ChristineDePisan · 20/08/2015 00:32

What account?? I thought he had just set up a new Twitter account (though he must be running out of variations on dad_sec / dadsec / dadsecurity etc)

Anyway, presumably laughing at GCHQ because he presumes that having posted a contact number they are now bugging him

BertieBotts · 20/08/2015 00:33

This is weird. And probably a coincidence. But when you google the phone number the first google result is a list of phone numbers (just a directory I think) hosted on the hawaii.edu site. Which is where the bat photo comes from.

I made this as a joke, but now I'm wondering... Grin

Would even the Met in uniform have anyone working on the case over night?

howtorebuild · 20/08/2015 00:35

Can you screenshot the list?

ChristineDePisan · 20/08/2015 00:36

sniffs - do you mean why is he being called Jeffrey? A week ago when the first attack was happening, someone said something like "think of the conversation he will have with his therapist about how important he felt, and the therapist will reply "calm down Jeffrey"". It sort of stuck.

ChristineDePisan · 20/08/2015 00:38

howto - screen shot which list?

howtorebuild · 20/08/2015 00:39

The phone numbers.

wowfudge · 20/08/2015 00:41

Don't link to the list - HQ will take it down. You can google it and look at it without being logged into twitter. I just think it's rather pathetic - possibly designed to piss MNetters off with all the password resetting, etc. The clown avatar whoever it is was using is freaky to me.

MNHQ should get the IT security specialists in we used where I worked - they were ex Mossad agents. Apparently.

howtorebuild · 20/08/2015 00:43

No the hackers list. The phone number list on Google.

BertieBotts · 20/08/2015 00:43

The list is nothing, just a list of phone numbers, like you get when you google any phone number which doesn't belong to a company. Try googling your own if you don't want to look at the twitter and you'll see what I mean.

surpriseitsme · 20/08/2015 00:44

I dare you to ring it...I feel like a naughty kid now!

ChristineDePisan · 20/08/2015 00:47

I quite like the incongruity of the hacker settling into a Twitter account that discusses things like the role of administrative data in social change and has promoted #womenleaders.

Presumably she is a MNer, and he found his way into the account through info siphoned off here

OutToGetYou · 20/08/2015 00:48

I know, I want to ring it. But I won't!

ChristineDePisan · 20/08/2015 00:48

I hope the first call he gets on the number is PPI insurance

surpriseitsme · 20/08/2015 00:49

I've gone to bed and left mobile in Loughborough so I can't!

BertieBotts · 20/08/2015 00:49

Well you could withhold your number. You could even do it through something like skype which is less traceable.

I think HQ would probably say don't, though.

surpriseitsme · 20/08/2015 00:50

Loughborough? Lounge!

BertieBotts · 20/08/2015 00:51

oh, I thought that was a bit convenient Grin And perhaps far, but who knows. You might live in Loughborough.

surpriseitsme · 20/08/2015 00:52

It's the thought of it being someone's ho.e phone number that's putting me off! Can you imagine having hundredsof angry women demanding to speak to Jeffrey at quarter to one in the morning?

msgrinch · 20/08/2015 00:53

Jefferys mum would be pissed off, all that walking to the basement to get him at this ungodly hour!
