So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

And we would have to go and get it as we live in a village where no one delivers to.

We also have two teens that eat like horses, so it would average out at about £40 per take away.

barbecue · 18/08/2015 23:25

Too expensive for every week. Once every couple of months here.

johnImonlydancing · 18/08/2015 23:25

We have maybe one a year, but that's just us. I don't think there's anyting wrong with it. we eat enough other crap

Viviennemary · 18/08/2015 23:26

I think once a week is quite a lot and wouldn't think most people have them as often as that. We might have one every two or three months.

johnImonlydancing · 18/08/2015 23:26

Mind you every so often I really crave chippy chips.

Fairylea · 18/08/2015 23:29

We can't afford to. .. A take away is a big treat and expense for us so we may be have one once every 3 or 4 months.

StaceyAndTracey · 18/08/2015 23:29

A few times a year

Because it's expensive, not very healthy and often a bit disappointing TBH

MoriartyIsMyAngel · 18/08/2015 23:34

DS has autism and annoyingly I let his once weekly Pizza Hut takeaway become habit. It will be very hard to break now. And I'm so sick of the food, but I always feel I have to spend a certain amount to qualify for a money-off voucher...

MagratGarlik · 18/08/2015 23:36

Yep, we have one every Saturday. None of us are overweight (I'm size 10), it's a regular treat which the ds's look forward to and the one night off a week from cooking etc.

kippersmum · 18/08/2015 23:40

We don't have takeaway but for some reason my local waitrose always has reduced curry stuff on a friday afternoon. I can't resist the temptation! Plus a night off (as such, still cooking for small DCs) is great.

Bambambini · 18/08/2015 23:43

We probably have take away once a week, sometimes twice or go out for a meal.

NewsreaderChic · 18/08/2015 23:46

We probably do, in fact we went to the chippy this evening.

Bambambini · 18/08/2015 23:47

I'm really surprised most hardly ever have them. I thought about once a week would be really normal. Do folk eat out or not as well then?

BertieBotts · 18/08/2015 23:48

If you are talking average then it probably does work since there will be enough families who eat takeaway several times a week to balance it out.

At one point we did several nights a week. DH worked nights and came past mcdonald's and I was depressed and couldn't be arsed to cook most of the time.

And with XP we had one most nights because he wouldn't tell me what time he would be home or let me buy any food but would invariably come home with something from a takeaway, usually which he'd wheedle one of his friends into buying for him.

But now it's gone back to once a month which is about normal for me - when I lived at home, less than this, maybe once every 2-3 months if you count chippy, 3-6 months if not.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 18/08/2015 23:49

We probably have a takeaway twice a year. I can't remember when we last had one, before Christmas I think.

level3at6months · 18/08/2015 23:51

Most Sundays are curry nights here. We eat out probably once a fortnight too.

HeighHoghItsBacktoWorkIGo · 18/08/2015 23:52

I don't have a problem with it. Nice to have a night off cooking. We only have a take away/fast food about every other month, though. We are just too tight!

We would before likely to have a supermarket pizza, or to pan fry steaks to have with oven chips and peas on a night that we were all tired and needed something quick.

BertieBotts · 18/08/2015 23:52

No we don't go out to eat. Going out to eat is in the same vein ie far more expensive than cooking. Cost is the main issue in spreading them out. Though I wasn't happy eating them several times a week due to the health factor either, it was the cost which I felt ridiculous.

LazyLohan · 19/08/2015 00:00

Once every month or two. I think it's nice for the family to sit down together without someone having the stress of preparation every time.

rockybalboa · 19/08/2015 00:03

Once every 6 weeks average here I would say. Normally fish & chips or curry.

Myachingovaries · 19/08/2015 00:04

We don't do this .... I think once a week is a lot tbh.

A lot of money and a lot of calories.

StrattersDairyProductPervert · 19/08/2015 00:05

God no, more like once every two or three months.

shizzlesandglitz · 19/08/2015 00:07

We love takeaways, but weekly takeaways would be far too expensive with four of us. You're looking at about £25 when there's four of you.
Besides, it's so much more of a treat when it's once a month instead of every week in my opinion! Smile

shizzlesandglitz · 19/08/2015 00:08

Noooo idea what's happened to the smiley there Confused

BertrandRussell · 19/08/2015 00:14

I have learned lots of things on this theread. That there are people who have chicken tikka with chips. That there are people who get away with having a takeaway after the kids are in bed- how do you do that- put pegs on their noses and eat it in the dark with wooden forks? Mine would be down the stairs like bloodhounds if we tried that. And that there are people who can eat baked cheese or mussels without their children queuing up with lumps of bread for their share!
