So my sister was surprised that we eat fast food/takeaway once a week every friday. We usually have fish and chips, dominos, Mcdonalds or KFC, the dc usually have an chocolate bar or sweet item the same night. None of us are overweight and dc have very healthy diet during the week.

Aibu to think most families do this.

We have one about once every two months. I don't really like them, tbh. Once every two weeks or so we have "homemade takeaway" - we buy prepared dim sum from the supermarket and have that for supper (we mostly cook from scratch so that is about the only pre-prepared food we have. It is nice to have the odd night off preparing, cooking and clearing up.

GreenShadow · 18/08/2015 22:05

Nope.

We probably average about once a month. Usually Fish and chips with a very occasional curry or Chinese.

vienna1981 · 18/08/2015 22:14

Once or twice a year for me, i. e. New Year's Day and Christmas Eve. Takeaway nosh is just too expensive and not particularly good value for a weekly outing. I make my own pizzas.

lemonade30 · 18/08/2015 22:15

once a week at least but most often twice if I'm honest.
mostly Indian or thai but the DCs are partial to the odd subway/KFC/Papa Johns too.

I'm a shit cook. my OH isn't much better.

chosenone · 18/08/2015 22:16

Quite normal amongst most of my friendship group. But that ranges from one couple who love nice food but work long hours so often have take away twice a week, sometimes 3 times. We can easily have one a week then surprise ourselves by not having ine for a fortnight, occadionally 3 weeks. Most of my other friends similar. I have one friend who sees take away as a birthday/ovens broken option. My DP and DC will have KFC on friday as Im out at a Comedy night.

Alyx80 · 18/08/2015 22:20

At least once a week here.

TheHormonalHooker · 18/08/2015 22:20

We don't. I can't remember the last time we had a takeaway.

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 18/08/2015 22:21

We get a takeaway a couple of times a month but also eat out maybe once a month too. By takeaway I mean a chinese, curry or pizza. McDonald's, Subway and fish & chips aren't takeaways in this house!

The kids rarely eat it though, they might have one of their favourite teas on a Saturday night then we'll have wine and order our takeaway at 10.30ish.

redredblue · 18/08/2015 22:27

Takeaway 1/2 times a month and about 3/4 meals out a month.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 18/08/2015 22:34

About 10 yrs ago I bought DH Madhur Jaffrey's Curry Bible. Since then he's made a curry most Friday nights, and now takeaway curry tastes a bit meh. He has honed his chapatti skills and they are pretty awesome.

We live very close to a chippy and very occasionally have fish & chips, but usually if we're doing DIY and want an easy tea.

Eat out a few times a month tho...

Quietlifenotonyournelly · 18/08/2015 22:34

We don't usually have takeaway food but when we do it's an Indian or Chinese food, probably a few times a year. I prefer to make my own pizza as I don't use salt or sugar in the dough and do a mean calzone packed full of the stuff I like.

imwithspud · 18/08/2015 22:36

We have been really bad lately since DC2 arrived and we've been struggling to find the time/energy to cook every night so we've been having one, sometimes two takeaways a week. It's getting better now DC2 is coming up to 3 months old and is becoming more settled though. DC1 will sometimes have a McDonald's or KFC with us but 9 times out of 10 we will have a child's portion of a home cooked dinner in the freezer for these occasions and we'll order something when she's gone to bed.

I always look for cashback or discount codes online before ordering though. I would never pay full price for a Dominoes/Papa John's pizza for example as it's an absolute rip off and you can usually find a 50% discount code with a simple google search.

AuntyMag10 · 18/08/2015 22:37

Grunt By takeaway I meant this included eating out as well. Grin

lavent · 18/08/2015 22:39

We don't - I take the DC to Mcdonalds as a "treat" a few times a year but that's about it apart from the occasional Chinese for myself Grin
Too expensive!

KnitFastDieWarm · 18/08/2015 22:40

we're trying to save money and eat better so we don't get takeaways regularly any more, except as a special treat - but we do eat out maybe once a month.

Havibg said that, I bloody love a dominos, I do! I think I enjoy it more now as a rare treat though, rather than back in my heavy drinking and junk food days when it was a regular hangover cure...Blush

Oh OK, AuntyMag, then that would double my figures over 3 years from 1-2 to 2-4. Vastly different. Wink

CheddarGorgeous · 18/08/2015 22:52

Nope. About twice a year here.

Musicaltheatremum · 18/08/2015 22:53

Not here either. Once or twice a year. Mind you I am trying to loose a lot of weight and a weekly carry out would sabotage this.

WitchofScots · 18/08/2015 22:55

No, that could easily be £120 a month on takeaways if you getting an indian meal or a dominoes delivered for a family of four. Birthdays and occasionally the last day of term (not half term) only here so approx 6/7 times a year at most.

sylviassecrets · 18/08/2015 22:58

We don't, can't remember the last takeaway we had. Am dieting though so don't have any 'junk' food at the min.

PinguForPresident · 18/08/2015 23:10

No, not average at all.

I can't remember the last time we had a takeawy. I suspect when it was when I was pregnant with #2 and craving KFC. That would have been 4.5 years ago. We're not especially healthy, but takeaways are criminally expensive and not always that nice.

I'll admit to a once-a-term McDonalds with the kids: daughter's chosen treat, son never eats his Happy Meal, so I oblige...

00100001 · 18/08/2015 23:13

Never

marshmallowpies · 18/08/2015 23:15

DH and I got into the habit of having them fortnightly last year when we were having our kitchen done - we had 4 months with no kitchen so we were fed up of ready meals and takeaways were the end-of-week treat we looked forward to!

Once we got the kitchen back, takeaway consumption dropped - I think we had an Indian takeaway a couple of weeks ago but just got the main dishes from there, I cooked my own rice and used a naan bread out of the freezer skinflint. That was the first takeaway I can remember having for the past few months.

If we do get it, it's always Thai or Indian or Japanese. Takeaway pizza is grim. Very rarely fish & chips, though now I've seen this thread I want fish and chips...

PUGaLUGS · 18/08/2015 23:19

Nope not regular here. We may have around four or five takeaways a year.
