Mine are:

Hand held blender diver chopper thing with enclosed bowl

Those red plastic lidded Pyrex dishes on offer from tesco's a while back with tokens .

Over to you!

Slow cooker
Battery operated salt/pepper grinder
Electric tin opener

daisychain01 · 18/08/2015 20:23

DP does all (and I mean all, as in ... he rarely lets me in the kitchen!) our cooking but a few ideas when I'm allowed in there:

  • mini balloon whisk, its a dinky little thing but great for instant porridge and custard when you only want to do a mug-ful
  • Joseph Joseph chopping board (nice colours, fits onto the countertop next to the toaster)
  • stonkin' knife sharpener - cost an arm and 3 legs but very very good for veg knives

I'm sorry TalcandTurnips I had to LOL - DP's meaning of straining greens is very different (I daren't think what he does at the kitchen sink when I'm out of the room)

ItsAll · 18/08/2015 20:23

Oops, #4 - a tin opener that works really well

Lunaballoon · 18/08/2015 20:24

Potato ricer
Slow cooker
Fancy knife sharpener (cheap knives but they are lovely and sharp).

TalcAndTurnips · 18/08/2015 20:28

ItsAll - I do like to time a piece to coincide with the water boiling and the kettle pinging; I have found that pages one and two of In a Monastery Garden are about right.

If not, I just extend the last note with a bit of left-hand tremolo a la Liberace until kettle reaches orgasm.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 18/08/2015 20:29

Nice try Talc but we all know you're rinsing your tights through in the colander....

Moreshabbythanchic · 18/08/2015 20:32

Potato masher, mine is a sort of L shape, so handy for hooking those hard to reach things at the back of the cupboard.

Pampered chef knife sharpener.

Radio.

TalcAndTurnips · 18/08/2015 20:32

Wally - nah, I'm just wiping my grubby spuds with a flannel, which I will use later to clean round the back of the taps and wipe DH's mug.

BMW6 · 18/08/2015 20:34

Tin opener

Potato masher

The thingy that you use to get fried eggs out of the frying pan

RiverTam · 18/08/2015 20:36

Oh yes, a microplane grater.

I've never seen the point of garlic presses, you waste so much garlic. I just chop it finely by hand.

Food processor
Knife sharpener
Good chopping board

BoskyCat · 18/08/2015 20:41

Super-flat metal tray thing for sliding under pastry

Small wooden spoon (I mean really small, long handle but small spoon part – great for smaller pans/small amounts)

Boiled egg slicer – kids love using it, so I can give them a job when making salad.

Everything in my kitchen is essential Wink yes even the Tepanyaki grill that I have used all but twice in seven years but if I really had to choose it'd be:

Rice cooker
My hard anodised pan set
Tassimo coffee machine

And if I may have one more, my KitchenAid (I coveted it for so long and spent far too much on it so by default, it must be indispensable).
