Have you travelled alone?

I've never visited but heard a lot of negatives about Jamaica recently, apparently being gay is not tolerated at all ( I hate the term tolerated, as if it's something that needs to be tolerated)

I have heard that 'corrective rape' is often used as punishment for lesbians.

I may have been subject to someone exaggerating massively but this has completely put me off the country

Loved Italy
Loathed Morocco

The people saying China... where in China. I have been to Yunnan and Beijing but nowhere else. LOVED those bits so where else should I go? On the random possibles list are Guilin and Chengdu. Also Shanghai.

my worst are Tangiers in Morocco and The Bahamas (hated Nassau)
Best are Hawaii, Texas (went to San Antonio, Dallas, Galveston, Austin) and Norway in June this year.

I want to travel alone but I am scared. Did any of you feel unsafe being alone in any countries?
I want to go to Japan, China, Mexico alone

Last place I went was Mauritius, beautiful country but someone drugged my drink, had to spend 3days in hospital. There was also creepy men hiding in the shadows as there was no street lights

Guilin is great mrsterry. Much lots to do and visit. We preferred beijing to Shanghai.

The only place I was ever hassled when alone (and bizarrely 3 times attacked in 3 separate places on 3 separate weekends) was Brussels.

I felt fucking unsafe in Morocco, the more in danger the further I was from the nearest khazi.

I want to travel alone but I am scared. Did any of you feel unsafe being alone in any countries? A lot depends on what you are scared of. Because what makes me feel very unsafe is being hassled as a woman by men. I don't feel scared of big crowds, non-violent crime, getting stranded places, going hungry a couple of days or not speaking much of the language. I don't love scary roads and unsafe cars/buses.

That means I would travel alone in China, for example, but not Kenya.

When i go on holiday i like to go on trips to see things i like, so hire a car and find the historical places of interest. Im sure therell be something to delight and interest me in every country. Shame my finances dont even allow a holiday in Cornwall Atm!

Loved: Copenhagen, kefalonia- in fact most places ive been in greece, italy, switzerland, cuba

Not so much: kenya. The people in the hotel were lovely, had a great time on safari and also touring the local area on an organised trip, but the lack of the freedom was an issue. Daily beach walks were organised with a guide and an armed guard.

Best: Spain and Portugal

Worst: Turkey with Tunisia a close second.

The place I've felt most unsafe is Manchester - but that's because I've been to dicey parts with work that I wouldn't normally go to.
Used to walk home in Hong Kong and Seoul in the middle of the night and never felt unsafe.

I am well travelled.. I have been to over 50 countries.
Loved St Lucia , Cuba , Turkey ,Hungary and Serbia
Disliked Croatia and Barbados

Best: Thailand, New York, Turkey, Jamaica, Melbourne, Egypt (Nile) Scotland, Wales, Switzerland, Bordeaux, Meribelle, Barcelona.

Worst: Without a doubt Tenerife. The locals are extremely rude. It still annoys me that I put money into the local economy. Marseille, Paris, Normandy again lots of rudeness. Tangiers (scary, dirty).

I loved
Thailand and hated Egypt. Travelled alone to thailand and with dd to Egypt.

Has anyone been to Slovenia? I fancy going and want some recommendations for good hiking bases.

Also disliked Crotia. Pretty place but couldn't move without being blatantly ripped off. Wouldn't recommend it.

Best: USA particularly Florida (not Disney), Maryland, Virginia, Montana and Washington DC, Bali was lovely and Hong Kong was a fascinating place. Love Andalusia too.

Worst: Found Singapore to be very boring. Also have been to New Orleans and was terrified the whole time.

But Goran Višnji? is from Croatia and in my head all the people there look like that.

I can't bring myself to hate an entire country, so keeping my worst list to cities.

Calcutta - as bad as you might imagine and a bit worse. One of the few places I've felt genuinely unsafe. Guatemala City - completely dysfunctional, filthy, crowded. Adelaide - as others have noted, just really fucking dull (I spent two weeks there for work once, pity me.).

The best? That's a tough one. I've loved Brazil, Italy, India (in parts), Morocco, Guadeloupe, Turkey, Japan. I spent a week in Syria not long before the civil war broke out and fell in love with the food, architecture and very friendly people, although it was clearly very messed up even then.

Lots more places to see. Need to have this baby so I can go travelling again (with child, naturally.)

Loved Romania and Hungary, also SA. I'm surprised so many people have slated Croatia, I loved it!

I generally love travelling but I really couldn't be doing with France (apart from Paris which we liked). Stupidly overpriced, gite landlady from hell, and plenty of encounters with people who were spectacularly unhelpful and rude.

Best: France, Switzerland, Kosovo. Parts of Turkey

Worst: US, Macedonia, Germany (just boring, not awful) a

I'm desperate to go to Cuba & Croatia

I can't understand the hate for Croatia, either. We drove from Montenegro through Bosnia and into Croatia, it was incredibly beautiful.

I am desperate to get to Burma. Just desperate.

My favourite cities are Istanbul, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Prague.

Oh god Croatia. Best looking bad tempered people in the world.
And the food- terrible.
