Aibu to buy lego for myself

As a child I loved lego and played it with my little sister until teenage years (just a box of random pieces, no sets). I've just started playing Duplo with toddler DD and it's reminded me how great it is. However there just isn't the same satisfaction with such a limited number of pieces and currently no baseplate. Should I get myself a box of lego or should I wait until I can fully share the joy with DD? As she is not yet two, it would be a while before we could have it out in the day, but I feel silly getting it just for myself! Anyone else feel unreasonable for having children's toys as an adult?

Lots of adults play with lego. There was a documentary about it recently. You might end up like the dad in the lego movie. :)

YouMakeMyDreams · 11/08/2015 06:52

Go for it. I want the lego vw capervan for Christmas ds1 wants the mini.
I love lego like you forgot how much until ds1 started getting loads.
Some of the sets are pretty expensive and probably best for adults. Although I am currently buying lego for children to play with at our wedding and am desperate to break open the big boxes and just start making stuff. Would have to do it in the dead of night though because I keep telling the dc it's not to be played with yet.

WeirdCatLady · 11/08/2015 06:58

Lego is good for the soul.

CurlsLDN · 11/08/2015 07:07

Lego is for adults too, here's a fancy coffee table book to prove it Beautiful LEGO www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1593275080/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_R.yYvbQ6N9EX0

ArriettyMatilda · 11/08/2015 07:11

Agree with you there WeirdCatLady

Thanks Stanky I now have a documentary to find and a film watch Grin

Glad you share my love YouMakeMyDreams I'm not too sure about going for sets that's actually make stuff though, I bought four puzzles last year and have only completed half of them (gorgeous intricate illustrations from the books of Colin Thompson) so I'd be worried the lego may stay in the box too with the pressure of completing it. I also share your pain, I have boxes of Duplo stored for Christmas! I hope you have enough lego for the adults too or the children may not get a look in Wink

Definitely go for it! I love Lego. One of the best presents DH ever bought me was the VW camper set!

Skeppers · 11/08/2015 07:17

Absolutely not unreasonable in the slightest! Lego is ace!

anonymousforever · 11/08/2015 07:20

YANBU

This Christmas I am going full Mindstorms. DS7 will just have to progress through Technic school faster cos I can't wait for it any longer Wink

RaspberryBunny · 11/08/2015 07:22

Not unreasonable at all! I can't wait until the DC's are old enough for Lego! Until then we have an overflowing 100 litre box of duplo to keep us busy Grin

PurpleCrazyHorse · 11/08/2015 07:24

75% of our Lego is DH's and DD was taught from a very young age to look after it. We have so much it's stored by colour and is currently in the garage!

IJustLostTheGame · 11/08/2015 07:25

Dh has been hankering after a lego death star for YEARS

DD will still be able to play with it, lego lasts forever. You're just making a headstart.

ArriettyMatilda · 11/08/2015 07:38

Great consensus here- now which set for a beginner? I'd always been a bit wary of adults who love kids toys, but as I've become older my love for toys has barely diminished. Looks I may become an AFOL Grin

Snozberry I hope I have the decency to share after having it to myself before she is old enough!

DS aged 3 discovered the existence of the lego shop yesterday. He was so amazed. Has everyone seem the big bang theory lego? Was very tempted.

Panzee · 11/08/2015 07:41

I buy the Simpsons Minifigures and only let the kids play with the duplicates. :o

scrappydappydoo · 11/08/2015 07:43

I like the look of the Lego architecture range but I just know my dds will take over so I may have to wait until they move out....

Motortrader · 11/08/2015 07:43

Lego is addictive. I think I've bought the entire Lego Friends series (for DD2 Wink). Lovely pink and purple and green bricks - can't get those in the other kits. Yes, I know what the majority of MN thinks of Lego Friends, but they can just bugger off - Lego is far more important than a bit of gender stereotyping.

You can get great big bundles of bricks on ebay at reasonable prices and Sainsbury's were selling lovely boxes of classic bricks at the weekend. I bought 5 boxes.

DW crumbled a bit and affected an air of superior tolerance towards my eccentricity, until I caught her late at night with a bottle of wine and huge half built palace on her desk Smile

mummy0bummy · 11/08/2015 07:44

Do it, do it! I'm not really into Lego but I have bought myself the DCs a few other types of toys because I wanted to play with them. My MIL has her own colouring book and she sits down with the DCs and they all draw/colour together. Toys and games are good for the soul.

mummy0bummy · 11/08/2015 07:46

Arf @ Motor's wife and her half-built palace Grin Wine

WeirdCatLady · 11/08/2015 07:47

My Aunt died last year and my Dad gave me some inheritance money and said to treat myself.

So I bought this....

I live in a house full of Lego. DH and 3 DS all mad about the stuff and there are sets and models in every room. I've never been that into it really, but after seeing the recent documentary I bought myself this set which I'm still waiting for a quiet moment to make
