This is excluding getting children ready. Just you, from shower to hair, makeup (if you wear it) etc - especially if you work. I feel that I take too long. Seems to be about an hour and a bit and I am always rushing. My routine is something like this:

Up, shower, brush teeth (10-15m)
Choose clothes and get dressed (15m ish)
Make a coffee, drink whilst doing makeup (20m)
Dry / style hair (20m)
Run about looking for things and trying to leave (10m)

Where am I going wrong?! Always late and don't want to get up earlier!

About 3-7 mins.

I don't shower or wash in the morning (usually the night before or i often go a day without - i wash my hair every 3rd day, when i have a long evening shower/bath, shave legs, moisturise all over, fake tan, mini facial, paint nails etc which takes about an hour). I have a 'Mumiform' of 5 pairs of similar trousers (stretch cigarette pants from gap all in dark neutral colours) and a drawer of tops which match them (in the summer i wear summer dresses). So i get up with the baby & ds1 (whichever is awake first - usually baby) bring baby downstairs, put kettle on to make his bottle and have a wee in the downstairs loo. Do kids breakfast, faff about with dhs lunch/breakfast/shirt. DH leaves.

I settle kids in front of ceebeebies, run upstairs and 'get ready' by splashing face with water, then putting on serum, clean teeth while that soaks in (listening out to the low level chaos downstairs - occasionally shouting 'are you playing nicely/being kind to each other'), then brush hair and tie in a loose/low pony tail, go into bedroom, change knickers (wipe fanny and underarms with a wet wipe), spray deodorant, grab top pair of trousers from drawer and top top (or first dress on the rack), put on bra, put on clothes. And that's it. I'm ready for the day. When i leave the house i put on lip balm as i race along the street frantically pushing the buggy as i'm usually late.

Breakfast (if i have it) is usually cold leftovers eaten from the fridge/standing in the kitchen while i am unloading the dishwasher and making the dc lunch.

I tell you - it's all glamour here! Grin

Pre-DC i would take about 40 mins and actually look in the mirror before leaving the house. But now i don't bother as i figure what you don't know can't hurt you.

Half an hour.

Have a bath or shower the night before so I just need to get up, have a quick wash/teeth brush , get dressed & sort hair out plus slap some makeup on too. Sometimes I even manage to make a cuppa.

hstar1995 · 08/08/2015 16:19

An hour. Like a pp, I'd rather wake up early and have time to faff/go slow and avoid rushing.

Alarm goes off. Spend 20 mins lying in bed on fb/twitter etc. Finally get up.

Spend about 15- 20 mins making and eating breakfast.

Bathroom. I shower in the evenings so just need to wash face, brush teeth etc. Usually pick out clothes night before so getting dressed takes 5 minutes.

10 minutes putting make up/jewellery on/doing hair. If straightening hair, get up earlier as it takes 25-30 minutes to straighten.

Pack bag - lunch is made night before - takes all of 2 minutes. Grab coat, put on shoes etc and leave

Murfles · 08/08/2015 16:32

I am interested in people who have said they take up to 45 minutes to apply full makeup

I takes me 45 mins to apply my make up as I have two deep scars on my face which take time to cover and blend Grin

Garlick · 08/08/2015 17:19

It takes me 30-40 minutes to do my makeup 'properly'. I am very slow, though. For work I had a simpler routine that I did on the Tube, but it still took about a quarter of an hour.

Concealer - blend.
Different concealer if dark circles very dark - blend.
Foundation - blend.
Blusher & highlighter - blend.
Powder.
Eye base.
2 eye shadows, more blending.
Eye liner.
Highlight inner corners of eyes.
Light-line inner bottom lid.
Curl eyelashes.
2 coats mascara, comb after each.
Darken eyebrows.
2 coats lipstick or lip liner & lipstick, blot.
Lip gloss or highlighter.
More powder if needed.
Powder blusher if needed.
Put all products & applicators away again! (Or wash them if I'm at home.)

When there's loads of time, I find it relaxing. It's a creative outlet. However, I hate doing makeup in a rush and would rather go barefaced :)

Ilikefrogs · 08/08/2015 17:33

I take 20 mins:
5 mins coffee
5 mins shower
5 mins dressed/teeth
5 mins make up/hair

BeaufortBelle · 08/08/2015 17:51

Crikey Garlick. You must look like a film star!

Concealer under eyes for shadows. All in one foundation and rub it in thoroughly, powder blusher, mascara - one coat, lippy. I have never combed my eyelashes.

If we are going out I might put on a bit if eye shadow and pencil liner. Cripes we are going out tonight - had a shower this morning. Think I can scrub up and get changed in about 15 mins !

Garlick · 08/08/2015 18:01

Heh, I used to look quite glossy & finished after all that. Nowadays I just look like a saggy old bag with good makeup Wink

rowingboat · 08/08/2015 18:53

cantmakeme I need about an hour to ease into the day. I have some of the same steps as you in my morning routine, which all add to my being ready to step, outside feeling mentally prepared . If I took out something I would probably fill the time with something else, to make it back up to the hour.
I'm looking at your list and think you could possibly save time in the morning by choosing your clothes the night before. I try to do that on a work day and find it less stressful than trying to find something I like in the morning, particularly as I get up first and have to find clothes in the dark. Pyjama bottoms to work anyone?!
What are the things you have to look for, could you save time there?
that could shave a cool, 25 mins off your routine possibly.

Janeymoo50 · 08/08/2015 20:04

Is it just me that would feel odd going to work without having a shower each morning? I often have a bath or shower in the evening too, mostly weekends, but would feel dead manky going to work with just a top and tail...maybe I'm just a bit precious...feel free to tell me IABU, don't mind.

goodasitgets · 08/08/2015 20:11

Hour and a bit. Shower or hair wash, cig, brew, breakfast, makeup, faff Grin
Makeup
Cleanse, tone, moisturise
Primer, BB cream
Concealer under eyes and on any spots
Highlight, powder, blusher
Probably 4 eyeshadows, gel liner, pencil liner
Mascara
Brow powder, brow gel

Lightbulbon · 08/08/2015 20:14

Bed to car 15 mins.

I keep a hairbrush, tweezers, floss, moisturiser & make up in the car and do on route if needed.

If I'm going on a night out and doing the whole bath/hair drying & straightening I'd need at least 3 hours.

Lashalicious · 08/08/2015 21:28

Shower and wash hair night before.

  1. 5:30 quick wake up shower
  2. Moisturize, powder foundation, a little eyeshadow and mascara, lip balm
  3. Brush teeth, hair, and get dressed

Not counting getting my son up (6:00) and ready for school and a quick breakfast, takes me about 30 minutes to get myself ready.

Lashalicious · 08/08/2015 21:35

Yes, decide outfits beforehand and have your bag ready to go. Biggest timesavers.

Lashalicious · 08/08/2015 21:39

I meant bath, not shower, the night before.

AF77 · 08/08/2015 21:46

My record was 13mins last week!! Shower (no hair wash), get dressed, teeth, mascara, out of the door. Normally I allow 25mins tho.Smile

bertsdinner · 08/08/2015 22:31

I take an hour on hair wash day (ie, every other day). It takes 30 mins to shower, slap make up on, clean teeth and get dressed. Then another 30 mins to dry and straighten my hair (long and quite wavy/mind of it's own).
On non hair wash days I take 40 mins, I still have a 10 min straightening session.
Have my first coffee/breakfast at work, at my desk.
Hair is definitely my biggest taker of time.

Sunbeam18 · 08/08/2015 22:43

Skinny, I take about 20 mins for full (for me) makeup:
Tweezing stray hairs
Primer, foundation, concealer - about 5 mins
Colour in eyebrows
Bronzer
Blusher
Lipstick
Eyes - base colour, one other colour, blend, eyeliner, mascara - about 5 mins
Powder

Noodledoodledoo · 08/08/2015 22:48

Can be done in 20 mins - more likely 30.

Up, turn shower on, clean teeth whilst shower warming up (pump takes forever), shower, hair done every day, use cleanser in shower, out (this morning it was 7 mins from up to out of the shower), spritz face with toner, dressed, mosturiser, dry hair (5 mins max - my hairdresser knows I hate faff so we have got the style sorted to make this easy), come downstairs, grab bags check them, grab toast and coffee husband has made and leave!

I am not a morning person so I need my commute to come to!

Don't wear make up but if I do max time is 5 mins!

I have a wardrobe/work uniform that doesn't need much thinking about.

When I lived alone would buy breakfast at work as was in before I needed to be by about 15-20 mins.

I think I might cry at the thought of a morning shower.
I find showers freezing unless 20 minutes long which kind of defeats the objective of making it a quick clean experience.

No kids, commute to work. Alarm at 7am, out of the door at 7:40am. Helps to have clothes and breakfast decision the night before. Alarm, shower, rough dry hair, teeth, breakfast, get dressed, proper hair, face, out.

But as I said, no kids to worry about any more!

montserratSang · 09/08/2015 21:00

I take 40 mins for a full shower, hair wash and dry and make-up plus do the DCs hair. DH brings me a cuppa. Everything is out the night before. I have breakfast at work and a cup of coffee in the car.

fourtothedozen · 10/08/2015 07:14

janey- not just you. We all sweat at least a pint of moisture during the night, even with a night time bath we are not clean in the morning.
