This is excluding getting children ready. Just you, from shower to hair, makeup (if you wear it) etc - especially if you work. I feel that I take too long. Seems to be about an hour and a bit and I am always rushing. My routine is something like this:

Up, shower, brush teeth (10-15m)
Choose clothes and get dressed (15m ish)
Make a coffee, drink whilst doing makeup (20m)
Dry / style hair (20m)
Run about looking for things and trying to leave (10m)

Where am I going wrong?! Always late and don't want to get up earlier!

up at 7 and out the door at 7.45
45 mins to brush teeth, have cup of tea, shower, make up do hair get dressed and get out the door

ofshoes · 07/08/2015 12:45

15 minutes from getting out of bed to getting out the door, it's fucking brilliant being a man.

hannibalismisunderstood · 07/08/2015 12:50

I put my clothes out the night before and also shower/bath before bed and let hair dry overnight. Then in the morning;

wash face/brush teeth/do make up : 5-10 mins
Get dressed : 2 mins
Go downstairs and plug in hair straighteners while sort breakfast : 5 mins
Straighten hair and eat breakfast : 5-10 mins

around this I also chase up DD (age 5) to get herself dressed, put out her breakfast, do her packed lunch if at holiday club and then brush and put up her hair. I may also take 10 mins to hang out washing and move the guinea pigs from indoor cage to outdoor hutch and run.

I usually set my alarm for 6:50am and on school days out the door at 7:30am, non school days with holiday club, I spend more time just reading mumsnet etc and out the door at 8:10am, both times with a second coffee in a travel mug to drink at work....

Never understood anyone who takes longer tbh

ghostyslovesheep · 07/08/2015 12:54

about 15 mins

up - teeth brushed hair brushed clothes on and tea made

then I get the kids up

I don't wear make up and I have a shower at night

SewButtons · 07/08/2015 12:56

I can get ready in 20mins including shower and hair wash and makeup, however I hate rushing about in the morning so I prefer to get up much earlier and have time to have a quick bath (I have chronic pain and the warm water really helps in the mornings- plus hot showers make me dizzy) and a long breakfast with time to read before the madness of my day so I take an hour and a half instead.
Which I think 's pretty good still considering I spend 45mins of that on eating breakfast and reading my book.

flanjabelle · 07/08/2015 13:02

Up.
Breakfast (5mins to make, 5 mins to eat)
shower (10 mins, 5 if I dont need to wash my hair)
brush teeth (2mins)
Get dressed (5 mins max)
Dry hair (5 mins) add hair wax (1min)
Bb cream and mascara (2mins)

35mins total. If I rush I can be up and out in 30 though.

WipsGlitter · 07/08/2015 13:11

Up at 7.30 - shower 5 mins (including washing hair), hair 10 mins, make up 5 mins, dress 2 mins.

NickiFury · 07/08/2015 13:12

Depends. On school days it's joggers and a t-shirt, contact lenses, teeth brushing and that's it. The idea of getting ready for the school run is incomprehensible to me. It's bad enough without that! I exercise when I get back and then shower.

Other days about thirty minutes. Shower, dry hair straight, minimal make up - tinted moisturiser and lip
Gloss.

Orangeanddemons · 07/08/2015 13:34

I can do it in 20 mins with no dc. I never every shower/wash hair in the morning, I just don't have time.

LittleLionMansMummy · 07/08/2015 13:37

30 mins. I shower at night.

Purplepoodle · 07/08/2015 13:40

Night before I

  • lay out clothes
  • sort bags out and anything I will need and put next to front door so I can just lift and go.

As for morning I only wash and dry hair on a Sunday and Wednesday so only have to deal with that one work morning and put it up the rest of the time. Make up, I use all in one base, concealer, smudge of eyeshadow and mascara - 5 mins.

froggyjump · 07/08/2015 13:43

on a school day, alarm goes at 6.30, and I'm out of the house at 7.30, shower, make coffee, get dressed, drink coffee & have breakfast, put packed lunch into bag, either make DS3 breakfast or get him dressed (leaving other job for DH who takes him to school) bathroom and out. It's not really rushed or stressed though - I usually have time to check in on here or fb, and catch the BBc headlines, as well as waking up and then re-waking DS's 1 and 2.

in the holidays, a whole different story - I was up at 7 this morning, but didn't get in the shower till gone 10!

CakeNinja · 07/08/2015 13:46

Sahm here.
Takes me about 5 minutes on a regular day. Put gym clothes on, rescrape hair back, teeth, go.
Drop the kids off, exercise, then shower.
Even then, I shower and get dressed again in about 10 minutes.
Don't wear makeup, throw on clean clothes (don't care which ones!), I don't bother with anything hair related unless I'm having a night out.
On a school morning, I get myself and the 3dc up, dressed, breakfasted and out of the house in 50 minutes.

Salmotrutta · 07/08/2015 13:47

I can be up, have a coffe and feed cats, washed/showered, hair dried (if washed), and dressed in about 35 minutes.

I can do a shower in about 5-10 minutes depending on whether its a hair washing day (every 2-3 days) and I only wear a bit of mascara and blusher.

I always make a mental note of what I'll be wearing the night before so I can get dressed in about 3 minutes flat.

I would get very bored if it took 20 minutes to put make-up on! Grin

Artandco · 07/08/2015 13:50

20-30 mins. Takes me 45mins to get myself and x2 small children out

Never wash hair in the morning or shave legs in morning , always evening, so shower is a quick 5 mins freshen up.

Make up is basically eyes done well, with lip stick. Maybe bit of powder.

I don't drink tea at that time of day

cariadlet · 07/08/2015 13:52

Alarm goes off at 6 and I leave for work at 7.15

It takes about 20 minutes to do the washing up that I'm too tired to do in the evenings, and there's often washing to hang up (I load the washing machine before I go to bed, because the electricity is cheaper overnight). If it wasn't for that I could have more of a lie in.

dd is 12 so only needs waking up and then sorts herself out.

I don't wear make up and it only takes a couple of minutes to choose something to wear and to get dressed. I usually have a school dinner, but if there's no vegan option I'll make myself sandwiches that day - only takes a few minutes.

I always get up at the same time so if there's no jobs to do, I treat myself to a nice relaxing bath before work.

chrome100 · 07/08/2015 13:55

Shower (5 mins)
Blast with hairdryer whilst eating porridge one-handed and reading the news online (5 mins)
Make up (2 mins)
Clothes (2 mins)

Done!

teacher54321 · 07/08/2015 13:59

I put all work clothes on hangers in outfits including pants/socks/leggings/tights as necessary. Then I hang them on the wardrobe door for the whole week. I also put ds's clothes ready for the week on a Sunday. Saves AGES of hunting for things that match.
I can get myself and Ds out of the house washed and dressed in under 40 minutes.

DJThreeDog · 07/08/2015 14:14

I take about an hour OP as well.

I'm not good in the mornings though, so I'm a lot slower than say, if I was doing the same routine at 11am on a Sunday instead.

I normally shower every morning which is about 5 minutes. I don't wash my hair every day but it takes about 15 mins minimum to style as it's curly so I have to fully wet it and add product every day otherwise it looks a mess. Sometimes I have a bath the night before in which case I don't shower the next morning saving a bit of time. I normally spend that in bed.

I always wear a full face of make up (to work anyway) which normally takes about 15 minutes or so. I don't rush, I actually like putting make up on!

I almost always have a coffee and sometimes a piece of toast. DH gets the boys ready for school.

I should get my clothes ready every evening as it easily shaves ten minutes off my hunt every morning, but I'm terminally lazy and just can't be bothered.

I should try and get into the habit really - that and getting lunch ready!

bloodyteenagers · 07/08/2015 14:28

When I don't have to do anything with the youngest I get up at 8, and out by 8:30.
During this time I make a pot of coffee, have a shower, straighten hair or tie back if I have washed that morning, brush teeth, get dressed, read and send emails, check work calendar, pour a coffee to go, grab work stuff (packed night before) and leave.
None work day, 15 minutes to get showered, teeth, hair done and dressed.

Hopefully · 07/08/2015 14:31

On a school morning I get myself and 3 DC ready in an hour an a quarter (excluding shoes/coats, which is an extra 5-10 mins depending on requirements for waterproofs/sun cream etc). I get myself ready - shower, wash hair (not every day), dry it, apply make up, dress etc - in about 25 minutes. It is too rushed really, 30-40 mins would be lovely.

LilacWine7 · 07/08/2015 14:46

Breakfast, coffee: 15mins
Shower, brush teeth, get dressed etc: 40mins
Make-up, hair: 15mins
Last-minute things: 30mins (I always allow extra time and I like to sit and play with my phone for 30mins)

I generally get up at least 2hours before I need to leave the house. I hate rushing!

Thurlow · 07/08/2015 14:50

Up, shower - 10 minutes
Make coffee, dry hair, first half of make-up - 10 minutes
Get dressed and drink coffee - 10 minutes
Second half of make up, teeth, grab stuff - 10 minutes

I get up at 7.05 and am pretty much ready by the time DD gets up at 7.30, we leave the house at 7.50. Have it down to a fine art now!

I'd say the big thing is you need to get your clothes ready, shoes out, bag packed, pushchair and coats ready, all gone the night before.

Nonnainglese · 07/08/2015 14:58

Crumbs, don't think I've ever taken an hour! Bath night before, so wash hair/face/clean teeth/ dry hair/dress/quick coffee/out the door in 20 minutes maximum.
Everything laid out ready the night before, packed lunch in fridge ready.

Artandco · 07/08/2015 15:02

Oh and I only do 20 mins as want to stay in bed until last minute. And eat later at work.

At the weekend as a family we need at least 3 hrs! We rarely schedule anything before 11am/ midday at the weekend. Long baths, leisurely breakfasts are preferred. I just can't be bothered getting up at 5am to allow that weekdays
