to ask how long you take getting ready in the morning?

This is excluding getting children ready. Just you, from shower to hair, makeup (if you wear it) etc - especially if you work. I feel that I take too long. Seems to be about an hour and a bit and I am always rushing. My routine is something like this:

Up, shower, brush teeth (10-15m)
Choose clothes and get dressed (15m ish)
Make a coffee, drink whilst doing makeup (20m)
Dry / style hair (20m)
Run about looking for things and trying to leave (10m)

Where am I going wrong?! Always late and don't want to get up earlier!

then what happens mademan?? off down the pub?

MrsBertMacklin · 07/08/2015 23:59

Plomino what time do you to be asleep by to be up at 430?

Plomino · 08/08/2015 00:05

Have to be in bed by 11 pm . I used to go to bed much earlier, but found I'd just doze off and wake up every 45 mins worrying about waking up late, so now I go for a run or a later swim, then home , bath , straight to bed and out like a light for 5 hours or so . Better quality of sleep if not quantity.

shizzlesandglitz · 08/08/2015 00:06

Put kettle on when I get up for a cup of tea.
Hair brushed, teeth cleaned, face washed...... 10 minutes maximum.
By that time the kettle's boiled. Cup of tea quickly slurped for my caffeine boost.
That's it, I'm ready for the off. Couldn't be f*d with having to apply slap every morning. Take me as you find me. You won't find me hiding behind a mask of make up. Smile

MrsBertMacklin · 08/08/2015 00:12

Hardcore. I'd be dead if I had to follow that regime, I've been getting up at 6 - 630 for decades and can't do it on anything less than 7 hours sleep.

Plomino · 08/08/2015 00:20

I've done it as part of shift work for 20 odd years, , so its become a necessary evil . I hate it with a passion , but its not the worst I've ever had to do . About 5 - 6 hours is my normal amount of sleep . If I'm working late turn , I might finish at 11pm, but I wont get home till 1am or later , then I have to wind down if its been busy, so might not sleep till 2 or 3 . Then up at 7.30 to get 4 DCs to various schools and colleges . And if I'm on nights , wont get in till gone 9am , then back up at 2.30 to do school pickup . So I'm used to it .

Your choice not to wear make up, no need to denigrate others for choosing otherwise.

Judydreamsofhorses · 08/08/2015 00:48

Clock goes at 6.30, then snooze a bit. Shower, wash, dry and straighten hair, makeup, two cups of tea, breakfast, check emails, out at just before 8. Could be quicker but I am so shit in the mornings I faff a lot, despite laying clothes out the night before. DP takes forever in the shower so there's a bit of dancing about there too.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 08/08/2015 01:32

15 mins, tops.

Go to the loo, wash, brush teeth, get dressed, brush hair and take phone off charge. Throw crap in bag and off I go.

I shower in the evening so no need to faff every morning.

Wasn't meaning to put down anyone for spending ages in a morning putting on make up, apologies if came across that way.
Was just reading some of these posts and thinking oh em gee I really couldn't be bothered to tag an extra half hour onto getting out of the house time for the sake of putting some slap on!

jenkait · 08/08/2015 01:55

Always a curiously fun topic somehow!

I do my best to make sure my breakfast/lunch are packed the night before, and my clothes are set out...work bag and purse on the back of the door. Finding s

I hit the snooze button about 3 times in the morning, and usually get up around 6:40. I put on the coffee and have a shower-I HAVE to be out of the shower by 7am. I get dressed, let the cat outside to play, blow-dry my hair for a very short time, and I don't wear makeup. Pour coffee into travel mug, make smoothie and pour into travel mug. Wash coffee pot and blender. Lunch from fridge into bag, cat's food set out, call in cat... Make sure the locks are in place and I'm out the door by 7:30. I have coffee/breakfast at work.

Garlick · 08/08/2015 02:48

While I was working, I was another hour-and-a-half-er. I can do it in 20 minutes, but I would feel shell-shocked for hours afterwards as I'm very slow to wake. I like a meditative start to my day Grin

Now I'm all disabled & stuff, with a really messy sleep cycle, and don't work. I haven't got a morning routine - but, if I had, it'd need to be a good three hours!

avocadotoast · 08/08/2015 05:31

Pre-DD, I'd take a good leisurely hour or so. Shower, back in bed for a bit to warm up and faff about on phone, get dressed, downstairs for breakfast, back upstairs to do makeup.

(The getting back into bed originated when I lived in a house where the heating didn't have a timer, so even if you flicked it on as you got up it was freezing until it kicked in. DH takes the piss out of me for it but it's nice, I highly recommend it!)

Now I have a baby it's much more "she's asleep go shower go go go" and no makeup and breakfast with one hand Wink

shizzle, some may find washing only your face in the morning a little lacking in the hygiene standards. I hope you don't work in a hot office....

londonrach · 08/08/2015 07:32

Up at 7am, leave house at 7.35am. Full shower, make lunch, check mn....

FollyTrolly · 08/08/2015 08:33

Does anyone have massive problems picking clothes and wasting ages on that like me?

LocatingLocatingLocating · 08/08/2015 08:41

Up at 6.15. Empty dishwasher, hang washing, make breakfast, sort lunch/drinks for work/school.
6.45 breakfast in bed watching the news.
7am straighten hair (bath night before), makeup, brush teeth.
7.15 nag kids to get dressed/do teeth/brush hair.
7.30 get dressed.
7.40 leave house.

So in terms of personal getting ready its 25 mins plus 15 for breakfast.

I like to come home from work to an organised house though!

skinnysoyvanillalatte · 08/08/2015 08:48

This may sound a bit mad but, recently, I made the decision to spend MORE time on makeup etc.
I am interested in people who have said they take up to 45 minutes to apply full makeup. I find it still only takes me 5 minutes and I would like to look more polished. I would love to hear a time breakdown from those who take their time with makeup.

LocatingLocatingLocating · 08/08/2015 10:02

I chuck some tinted moisturiser on after brushing my teeth, and put lippy on when I'm stuck in traffic Blush

popcornpaws · 08/08/2015 11:09

It takes me around an hour and a half to have a shower, do teeth, dry and straighten my hair and do my make up.
It takes around 15-20 mins to do full make up, but I'm old and have years and years of practise!
I'm a perfectionist unfortunately and won't go to work looking messy!

Snog · 08/08/2015 12:47

Parlux hair direr cuts drying time....try out a 5 minute make up routine!

AdoraBell · 08/08/2015 14:12

For me it depends on school holiday or term time.

DCs are now teenagers so no moré early wakingGrin This means during the holidays I Get up hours before they do late, brush teeth, let dogs out and feed them - often DH does this- and have a leisurely coffee, frequently brought to me by DH, check emails, MN and the News, breakfast and moré coffee, then Get started on whatever plans for the day.

Term time, up, let dogs out, brush teeth, caffiene, breakfast for DDs - table laid after dinner the night before - dogs back in, DDs out To school, feed dogs, clear up, my breakfast, shower and then carry on.

When I worked outside of the home and Pre-DCs I did a quick shower, never washed hair in the morning as I've always had it long, quick breakfast, dash To the train, grab a coffee if time before train, do make-up on train if I had a seat. If not in the loos at the office before I hit my desk. clothes always laid out the night before.

Hardly use make up now, most days I just have sunblock on.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/08/2015 14:30

Alarm goes off at 5:35 and I'm up showered, hair washed/dried/straighteners, toilet, dressed and ready to leave at 6:10 before dh, ds or ddog are awake (they get up around 7:45) on a school day.

I always have everything ready the night before, and don't eat or drink anything before I leave. Get into work around 6:45 and have a fruit juice, then between 8:30-09:30 the onsite canteen does breakfast so we can take 30 15 mins out and have a natter and toast, poached eggs, usual grill stuff, rolls, porridge, granola, fresh yoghurts, fruit etc etc.

Trills · 08/08/2015 14:38

Assuming I've had a cup of tea first, about 30 mins from getting in shower to leaving the house.

But here are the things that I DON'T do:

Dry/style hair - I have fine curly hair, I can just put product on it and scrunch and by the time I've taken the bus to work it is dry

Full makeup - I don't do foundation every day, just a bit of stuff round my eyes and some blusher

Making lunch - I either make it the day before and then just stick it in my bag, or buy it

Breakfast - I never want food until at least 2 hours after I've got up, and I have not included tea-drinking time in the half hour

If I want to wear more makeup or do something more complicated to my hair, I know I need to leave more time.

aspirenature · 08/08/2015 15:36

I have set clothes for work and organise these on sunday. I spend 40 minutes in the morning this includes shower, brushing teeth, getting dressed, no make-up for me and breakfast.
