to think its hypocritical to be outraged about Cecil the Lion?

screenjunkie · 01/08/2015 23:23

I think it's disgusting what happened and upsetting.

I'm also a vegetarian and I'm starting to become a vegan now too.

Why are people so outraged by the death of a lion when they probably ate meat the same day?

So because a cow/pig/chicken maybe isn't as interesting or as exotic as a lion it's life is less valuable?

I'm not preaching for people to become vegetarians because its a very personal choice and a big lifestyle change. But aibu to think it's hypocritical to be outraged over a lion when you probably contribute to another animals suffering daily?

FWIW I love all animals (even ones that scare me half to death like spiders), would never kill one, only buy free range meat and eggs and am not about to give up.

I don't think you can claim to love all animals if you eat meat or any animal products.

You must believe a slaughter house is the equivalent of Disneyland for animals.

Oh, so those who agree with you are ok to use extreme hyperbole.

Those who don't agree are frothing.

Glad we've cleared that up.

screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 17:07

Oh, so those who agree with you are ok to use extreme hyperbole.

Those who don't agree are frothing.

Glad we've cleared that up.

What? Confused

I actually said that no one was frothing from either side.

The only person I said that was admitted themselves first that they were and that was only because they were wound up by one poster.

So I suggested they ignored thats persons views.

So what exactly have I done wrong now??

OP posts:
screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 17:11

Oh and I said Marie was probably exaggerating her views in order to get a reaction.

What is wrong with that?

I don't agree with what she has said either. I just think she said it to wind people up.

I don't think people that do that are "frothing", I think they just want attention.

If you don't agree with me thats absolutely fine. We are allowed a difference of opinion.

I don't believe I have been rude on this thread and I thought it was as debates goes going ok but seems at this point I can't say anything without having accusations thrown at me or having words put in my mouth.

OP posts:
Whiskwarrior · 02/08/2015 17:12

Well, this whole thread is goady and superior.

And done to death.

And a platform for people like you and Marie to spout your holier than thou garbage.

But other than that...

Ah man I hate meat is murder frothing threads. I always want to go buy steaks. It's chicken pie for tea not ruddy steak

I can't see any frothing from either side. No one is preaching that you should become vegan and you are a terrible human being for daring to eat meat.

Those who don't agree are frothing.

Glad we've cleared that up.

Confused
OP posts:
screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 17:16

And a platform for people like you and Marie to spout your holier than thou garbage

Well if that is true then you're giving us said platform. Grin

You are reading our words and reacting to it (very badly I should add)

No one can act "goady" and "superior" without a willing audience - so thanks for taking part of that audience.

OP posts:
Whiskwarrior · 02/08/2015 17:18

That's okay, I won't be sucked in any longer.

I'd advise other posters to leave you and Marie to your little vegan tea party now.

S'alright, Whisk, I'd taken your advice in advance, as it were.

Most people, in a sensible debate, do not exaggerate their views just to get a reaction, and then get stroppy when the reaction comes, but still avoid engaging with serious issues raised in said reaction.

I'll avoid the vegan threads in future.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 02/08/2015 17:44

Screen, you're quite right, most people can make up their minds without being told. However, most people here are smart enough to realise when someone doesn't want an actually discussion, only to lecture others and use sensational language without proven facts. No point talking to a brick wall is there.

screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 17:53

I've said many facts on this MrsGently if you decided not to read them then thats your choice - but don't outright lie that I haven't.

If you word "hypocrite" is classed as "sensational language" to you then you really need to get out more.

OP posts:
MrsGentlyBenevolent · 02/08/2015 18:01

Sorry dear, I need more evidence than what you or Marie have presented so far as 'proven fact'. That's the conclusion I've come to as a reader of this thread. Again, you are presenting as someone who wants agreement over discussion, so I can understand why others have opted out. There have also been far more that just "hypocrite" that is sensationalised on here. Also, plently of people explaining why meat eating is part of who we are, why it's not hyporcitical, but you have not acknowlaged this at all. So, once again, I say it's like having a debate with a brick wall. You seem to be enjoying alienating anyone who engages in this thread, than replying to any response to the original post.

screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 18:05

so I can understand why others have opted out

One person felt the need to say they were leaving. I think if you feel the need to declare you are leaving a thread its just embarrassing because no one cares.

And yet you agreed with them but you're still here, lingering around like a disgusting smell. Time for you to move on "dear"

OP posts:
screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 18:06

And all I said was "hypocrite" - I'm not responsible for what others say. So you can take your "sensationalisation" and shove it down your meat eating throat Grin

OP posts:
unlucky4marie · 02/08/2015 18:12

I'm not being critical of all non Vegans, just the ones that claim to be animal lovers but shovel down cheap meat. For pleasure.

Funnily enough I manage to put my point across without personal insults at other posters or bringing up out of context stuff from other threads.

Most of you are on the same view point as this caller www.lbc.co.uk/cecil-the-lion-vs-beef-dinner-nick-abbot-challenges-caller-113823

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 02/08/2015 18:15

Wow, aren't you a joy my dear. Oh, and I wonder if you know all about disgusting smells - you see, I bathe, use as much water, soap and spray deodrant as I need. Unlike certain vegans. And I can't right now shove them down my throat right now, making room for my chicken dinner you see. I'd retort with suggesting your views up your backside, but judging by your attitude, I would think that's where you pulled them from in the first place Smile.

screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 18:27

And here you are - still hanging around. Gloating about eating a dead animal Confused

You know it doesn't hurt or offend me that you eat meat right? So telling me you're having a chicken dinner is like telling me today is Sunday.

But believe me you won't be laughing later on in life when all the consequences of eating meat catches up with you.

OP posts:
MrsGentlyBenevolent · 02/08/2015 18:35

You mean the consequences that I'm already feeling - because without meat in my balanced diet, I become aneamic. In fact, I have been advised to add more red meat to my diet due to my pregnancy lowering my iron levels again. So - for my health and my unborn child - I'll be eating more meat. If it had such a bad effect on people, we would have died out many years ago. Oh - and vegetarians get cancer too, something I've sadly had to see. So don't think a healthy diet makes you immune.

screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 18:39

Just can't leave can you? Grin haha

It is rather amusing when people declare they are leaving - and then continue to stay.

OP posts:
MrsGentlyBenevolent · 02/08/2015 18:46

Where did I say I was leaving? See once again you're not addressing what I've said, just jumped to a more agressive reponse. Ok, you obviously do not want to discuss at all. And you obviously really love having the last word, so I won't respond to you any further. One sided conversations are very boring (well for those who do not love the sound of their own 'voice', and think they are right about everything no matter what).

screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 18:56

Well you keep saying how bored you are and yet STILL HERE [GRIN]

OP posts:
screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 18:57

think they are right about everything no matter what

I am right in this discussion.

OP posts:
RosePetels · 02/08/2015 18:59

How many more threads until you people who lack common sense get it?
