to think its hypocritical to be outraged about Cecil the Lion?

I think it's disgusting what happened and upsetting.

I'm also a vegetarian and I'm starting to become a vegan now too.

Why are people so outraged by the death of a lion when they probably ate meat the same day?

So because a cow/pig/chicken maybe isn't as interesting or as exotic as a lion it's life is less valuable?

I'm not preaching for people to become vegetarians because its a very personal choice and a big lifestyle change. But aibu to think it's hypocritical to be outraged over a lion when you probably contribute to another animals suffering daily?

Or this one....

screenjunkie · 01/08/2015 23:45

Very true. Hope you don't have a dogbor a cat though, because they don't share that idealism. Neither did the lion. Because they eat meat, and that means another animal has to die. Sad, but nature. Why do humans, as biological animal eaters, not get to live as such?

Hate to break this to you but there is a lot of evidence out there that humans are not designed to eat meat.

Ever wondered why the Western world suffers with people dying from cancer? Look at the countries with the lowest cancer rates and see what type of diet they eat.

We don't need to eat meat to survive.

Ok dear.

screenjunkie · 01/08/2015 23:48

Yes Sparklingbrook it's already been made crystal clear this thread has been started numerous times.

So why don't you join the discussion on one of the ones you posted links to if it's such an issue that I posted this thread? Confused

I did many days ago. Smile It's all be done.

DonkeyOaty · 01/08/2015 23:49

If we're into semantics either you are a vegan or you are not. Starting to become a vegan ain't gonna cut the higher moral ground mustard, soz. I could say I am starting to become a vegan too, but that would be bobbins.

screenjunkie · 01/08/2015 23:51

Good for you.

You've been around here long enough to know that sometimes threads get repeated.

If it's a subject I've already commented on and no longer have an interest in continuing to discuss it then I just ignore a new thread on it.

You're just a little odd really.

Are you Kat Von D?!? Lol

OttiliaVonBCup · 01/08/2015 23:51

So you don't like lions because they eat meat?

dodobookends · 01/08/2015 23:51

I accept that people kill animals for food.

I can't stand people who kill animals for fun.

GraysAnalogy · 01/08/2015 23:52

Isnt there also evidence to suggest we adapted our larger brains because we ate meat? That we are who we are because we ate meat.
www.livescience.com/23671-eating-meat-made-us-human.html There obviously needs to be further study, but it makes sense that we were able to evolve because we ate higher energy foods (meat)

How exactly are us meat eaters supposed to respond then OP, should we not give a shit then?

And all those people who actually work in conservation, I suppose they shouldn't because as meat eaters they're not as qualified as you...

Sparklingbrook · 01/08/2015 23:52

.

molyholy · 01/08/2015 23:53

I'm starting to become a veggie funnily enough. I am having carrots and brocolli with that joint of pork for sunday dinner tomorrow Grin. Am I allowed to have an opinion on the lion killer now?

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 01/08/2015 23:53

Are you kidding me?

I'm sorry, I don't think I can debate this further with you. Unless of course, you wish to share proven scientific papers on your 'theory'. And some people need meat as a staple part of their diet, myself included, or we become ill and anaemic. Yes, a load of pills (and even injections in my case), would counter that, but when I can find it naturally in meat, why on earth would I? Humans have been eating meat since we walked the earth - looking around at the mass population, do you really believe what you said about its ill effects?

screenjunkie · 01/08/2015 23:53

I don't eat eggs or dairy products.

I'm just in the process of researching cruelty free make up, cleaning products etc

I am odd?? Grin

CordeliaFoxx · 01/08/2015 23:58

Wow, Kat Von D is a super famous talented tattooist/designer who said more or less the same as you did on her FB page, offending and alienating thousands of her fans.

DonkeyOaty · 01/08/2015 23:58

Superdrug own brand beauty products are cruelty-free

Splosh website here have excellent cleaning stuff, vegan friendly

GraysAnalogy · 01/08/2015 23:58

All my makeup, products and clothing has been cruelty free for about.. 6 years now.

But I eat meat.

I did do veggie for 8 months, but I found it very hard to get what I needed nutrition wise and got quite ill. This was before being vegan was seen as fashionable so there wasn't that much help out there, I'd probably give it ago in future but right now... meh.

So during that 8 months I would have been able to comment about cecil.. but now I can't. Interesting.

screenjunkie · 02/08/2015 00:00

It's ok to mock me, as it was a silly thing to say. I have explained now I meant it in regards to the fact I eat no animal products.

I am unsure if you could ever call yourself 100% vegan though.

OP posts:
LemonCream · 02/08/2015 00:01

I don't think it's arrogant to respect the fact that an animal has a right to a life tpp

No, it doesn't. Nothing has a "right to a life". Life on this planet has evolved to destroy (kill) other lifeforms in order to survive.

Are you outraged at lions killing gazelles? Should the lion eat leaves instead because the gazelle had a "right to a life"?

By all means, take exception to unnecessary cruelty, but to object to the eating of meat because the chicken/cow/goat has a right to a life is ridiculous.

Killing a chicken is different to killing a lion. We kill chickens to eat them, lions are killed for fun. Surely you can see the difference?

I absolutely agree that we have a moral duty to try to avoid unnecessary suffering and we don't always meet that duty, but we should strive to.

But it is not remotely hypocritical to be less concerned with the killing of a chicken than a lion - not when you consider WHY the chicken is killed and compare it to WHY the lion was.

If you're taking (as you seem to, for some odd reason) the view that we shouldn't be killing anything for any reason ever, then take it up with evolution.

PurpleSwift · 02/08/2015 00:03

Yeah but op there was an active thread on this, literally yesterday, almost identical title etc boring

I eat meat. I also love my pet cats. So sue me

kali110 · 02/08/2015 00:03

I would be outraged if a cow or pig had been shot with an arrow and left to die for 40 hours.
Id be disgusted with people shooting them for sport too and posing for sick photos.
