people that bump park should have their licence taken away

Surely no one thinks bump parking is acceptable? Especially now parking is easy as new cars all have rear parking cameras with guides.

I see it all the time in London and I've never witnessed it happening to my high end car, but I'm sure the small bumps are caused by it.

OP posts:
JassyRadlett · 26/07/2015 20:06

I'd expect someone in that situation to budge up if it was possible.

I would. Why wouldn't you?

Most folk would have parked giving themselves adequate space to get out but not more.

Plus, if someone was so crappy at parking that they bumped into me while parking, I wouldn't be sure they were bright enough not to park right up against my arse once they did manage to manoeuvre themselves into the space.

Evening all
We will shortly be deleting this thread

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2015 20:09

Great news. Smile

MadeMan · 26/07/2015 20:09

Is the 90 days up already? That went quick!

MagratGarlik · 26/07/2015 20:10

MadeMan, nah. We're not posh enough for that. It's road tax exempt though.

PerspicaciaTick · 26/07/2015 20:10

Why is that Olivia? The thread doesn't seem more than usually grumpy.

Kennington · 26/07/2015 20:11

It is acceptable or was at least when I was in Paris
At the time it was considered vulgar to have a smart clean in bumped car

monkeyfacegrace · 26/07/2015 20:11

I'd be livid if someone used my bumpers for parking. Bodywork shouldn't ever be touched.

but op, I love you just a little bit for stating high end and performance.

I'm itching to know what you drive. I bet our opinions differ my cars are probably considerably higher end than yours

chocolatedonut · 26/07/2015 20:11

I have a 14 plate and it does not have parking sensors.

That being said I would never touch somebody else's car when manoeuvring in or out of a space. It's a pain in the arse when someone practically blocks you in though!!

MadeMan · 26/07/2015 20:13

"It's road tax exempt though."

Well that's a little bit of a bonus. Smile

Methe · 26/07/2015 20:14

Yawn.

Another thread where the op has been a twat and then thrown their toys out of the pram when they've been pulled up on it.

mNHQ why not just allow people to delete their own threads?

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/07/2015 20:14

We will shortly be deleting this thread

Is there a reason Olivia - it's quite amusing

BleachEverything · 26/07/2015 20:15

What's bump parking and what is a high end car?

BleachEverything · 26/07/2015 20:15

Oh buggeration I am late to this one! Olivia please leave it so I can have a read!

Tuskerfull · 26/07/2015 20:15

No this really isn't what bumpers are for hmm If you need to 'bump park' you're a shit driver, end of.

Yes. I'm Shock that someone would even admit to doing this, let alone try and defend it!

chippednailvarnish · 26/07/2015 20:17

mNHQ why not just allow people to delete their own threads?

Because what would be left would resemble Nethuns.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 26/07/2015 20:17

Me too Tusker

specialsubject · 26/07/2015 20:20

I will never own a new car, and it is probably another 10 years before the ones with parking sensors get into my budget. I'll pull the sensors anyway as I hate beeps and squeaks, way too distracting.

I park a car by mirrors, judgement and if in doubt, by getting out and looking. Hopefully it is all taught in the driving test.

presumably the OP means parking by reversing until there is a bump. Anyone who does that deserves instant disqualification.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 26/07/2015 20:20

@Methe

Yawn.

Another thread where the op has been a twat and then thrown their toys out of the pram when they've been pulled up on it.

No. We don't allow folk to do that as a rule.

But when the OP is a PBP as is the case here, who we've banned again, we may be inclined to nix a thread.

But if you're all enjoying talking car-sensors we can leave this here.

FWIW My megabus to hold my many children can supposedly park itself but I have never trusted it to do so.

Methe · 26/07/2015 20:20

It seems they do already chipped

MNHQ may as well just say we're going to be deleting this in a minute folks, the op's thrown a wobbler as it hasn't gone the way they hoped

It's pathetic.

redbinneo · 26/07/2015 20:21

A high end car is one where the arse is positioned higher than normal, in other words a SUV.

ADishBestEatenCold · 26/07/2015 20:21

"Sometimes those cars get damaged or stolen. That is what is insurance is for."

That's true, Limited. However, if you damage someones car while 'bump-parking' and you deliberately bump-parked, your insurance would not cover their car, because 'bump-parking- (as it is being called on this thread) is not a legal maneuver and damage resulting from such a maneuver, carried out deliberately, would be willful.

Unless the damage was excessive, it is also unlikely that their insurance would cover it, as bumper damage often falls (at least partially) into that chasm gap known as 'the excess'.

By all means, bump-park if that is your usual level of skill when parking, but it is neither the correct or legal way to parallel park. Nor, with a little practise, is it necessary.

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2015 20:22

A PBP- what a surprise.

Methe · 26/07/2015 20:23

Someone on another thread the other made the fantastic suggestion of a fiction section where you could out PBP's and their hard work.

It is super dull as it is at the moment.

ilovesooty · 26/07/2015 20:23

Methe have you seen Olivia 's explanation?
