its everywhere!!!! Yes it's an interesting flavour but does it have to be in just about everything these days?... Chocolate bars, popcorn, puddings, spreads etc..You can't even open a food magazine without recipes for using it!!!. It literally is the flavour of the month!
I really think it's The Emperor's New Clothes tbh. It's almost as ubiquitous as pulled pork or chorizo!!!! Bloody everywhere!!! AIBU to want to hurl it out of the window ( in whatever form it takes!) . Am just a tad testy with the food industry for treating us like lemmings.

Would be interested to see what all you lovely MNers would like to see the back of food wise too!

I like it.

I don't understand what pulled pork is, in as much as how is it different from non-pulled pork.

VulcanWoman · 24/07/2015 20:07

I don't understand it - I tried a salted caramel liqueur in France about ten years ago and thought "mmm, this is quite nice but would be better without the salt"

I just dont get how it has taken off when it's so nasty

jenenberry · 24/07/2015 20:35

The barbeque sauce that comes with the pulled pork usually smells of BO.
Grim.

jenenberry · 24/07/2015 20:35

Remember chocolate covered ants?
And other insects, covered in chocolate?

Topseyt · 24/07/2015 20:44

M & S Salted Caramel Cheesecake is the bee's knees as far as I am concerned.

It needs a good lashing of double cream on top. Marvellous. To die for, I think anyway.

wtfisgoingonhere · 24/07/2015 20:46

Sorry OP and PP but I luuuurve salted caramel and anything flavoured with it
And pulled pork (even in/on a burger!)
And chocolate philli
And orange chocolate (cannot stand mint choc though - ewww!)
I'll also do sweet/savoury so ham/pineapple pizza, brie and cranberry, pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, cheese and pineapple (on sticks!)

Think I just like food too much!

IfNotNowThenWhen · 24/07/2015 20:52

I had salted caramel macarons for breakfast and I'm not sorry and I'll do it again

It's a bit like that chilli chocolate fad. Although I do like caramel, salted or not Smile

wtfisgoingonhere · 24/07/2015 21:17

Camelhump yes!

Cheeeeeeeese? Caaaaaake?

BabyGanoush · 24/07/2015 21:20

I always used to stir a pinch of salt intomy caramel/fudge, in all sweet dishes really.

It's how we cook where I am from :).
Amused it is a "new thing"here

It's nice.

As to pulled pork, that is quite similar to my goulash.

1Morewineplease · 24/07/2015 21:21

Oh thank you all for all your responses!!! I gather now that salted caramel is a little like marmite...! But thank you all again!!!!

Montezuma's dark drinking chocolate with chilli is bloody amazing expensive, but amazing

I do pulled pork in the slow cooker using a version of this recipe - I take out the tomato puree and use bourbon instead of port, mix all the dry ingredients into the mustard and slather it over pork shoulder.

I make the sauce element without the honey and use a chicken stock melt and another splash of bourbon.

Serve it in ciabatta with melted cheese, red onions and gherkins - yum!

jenenberry- I absolutely LOVE sweet and salty popcorn, I've been having that forever! 20+ years, I used to get proper weird looks when I asked for a mixture in the cinema, now everyone's doing it ????

ItIsNoneOfYourBusiness · 25/07/2015 16:48

SpecificOcean You will be in trouble with my hubby.

I LOVE salted caramel. I also love Greggs cakes. Haven't been near a Gregg's in a while. I will be Monday though. I don't need to say more.

As for slow cookers, I wondered why things weren't cheaper. I bought a slow cooker as our oven is crap not very good at roasting/baking, or anything else it should do. So I got it for roasting our meat (as that is pretty much all we use the oven for). I heard that it was supposed to be cheaper too, but I have yet to see that!

SpecificOcean · 25/07/2015 16:59

Itsnoneofyourbusiness -Enjoy.
I've had my quota for today Grin

PeasPleaseThankyou · 25/07/2015 17:04

I love salted caramel. Made some cupcakes the other week with a hidden salted caramel centre, they were delicious and disappeared v fast Grin

dingit · 25/07/2015 17:12

Dd is obsessed with salted caramel, she will be delighted with some of these Smile
I serve pulled pork with Jack Daniels sauce. My lot practically inhale it. I daren't check the sugar content.

Tuskerfull · 25/07/2015 17:21

"Pulled" meat is the thing at the moment. I'd never heard of it before a KFC advert came out in late 2014 (I think) and I had to google it. Now everywhere is serving "pulled" something.

MissShunImpossible · 25/07/2015 17:28

I love salted caramel!

And DP doesn't, so it's so brilliant when someone give me some and I don't have to share Grin

Salted caramel banana banoffee pie is the dog's. Make it, make it now!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 25/07/2015 17:30

I serve my pulled chorizo with salted caramel sauce.

Isn't "pulled meat" akin to mechanically removed meat...... :)
