its everywhere!!!! Yes it's an interesting flavour but does it have to be in just about everything these days?... Chocolate bars, popcorn, puddings, spreads etc..You can't even open a food magazine without recipes for using it!!!. It literally is the flavour of the month!
I really think it's The Emperor's New Clothes tbh. It's almost as ubiquitous as pulled pork or chorizo!!!! Bloody everywhere!!! AIBU to want to hurl it out of the window ( in whatever form it takes!) . Am just a tad testy with the food industry for treating us like lemmings.

Would be interested to see what all you lovely MNers would like to see the back of food wise too!

I wonder what pulled pork cooked in salted caramel sauce would taste like? I bet it would be lush but then I like meat and fruit/sweet combinations. I may try it.

chaiselounger · 24/07/2015 12:01

Ha ha. This too shall pass.

dougieroseagain · 24/07/2015 12:05

Yesterday I had potted duck which was actually pulled duck, stored in duck fat for about 3 months. It was the most rancid vile thing I'd ever tasted and I sent it back to the pub kitchen. I can eat most things but this defeated me.

If they'd smothered it in salted caramel then I might have managed to eat it. However, I felt so sick i couldn't even steal a chip from DH's plate.

Bleah.

Yanbu it's grim

HoneyDragon · 24/07/2015 12:11

It was Bailys. Now it's salted caramel.

This Xmas the big Xmas dessert snobbery drama wil not be over a Bailys Cheesecake it will be salted caramel roulade.

Once everything in Icrland is flavoured with it you know the dad has peaked.

I await the next big thing to preview in Aldi around September time.

glenthebattleostrich · 24/07/2015 12:11

Stealth do you work for M&S? They are doing mini lemon meringue. So evil I have to eat loads to save everyone else!

I do love salted caramel but let's be honest, they'll be doing salted caramel bog roll and bleach next, think they are just about the only things not tainted!

HoneyDragon · 24/07/2015 12:11

Dad?

FAD.

Shockers · 24/07/2015 12:15

It's not a new thing,I've been buying it in Brittany for years!

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2015 12:17

Lying I've had one recently with a normal big toe.

I don't work for m and s but do spend a lot of time in there!

BreconBeBuggered · 24/07/2015 12:17

Still spluttering at 'Do you pull your pork?'

I used to buy a very fancy salted caramel chocolate from a now sadly defunct specialist chocolate shop in the Cotswolds. I'm quite happy to see it as a fashionable food item these days, though I often find there could be a fraction more salt in the recipe.

Mummatron3000 · 24/07/2015 12:21

green18 YABVU - chocolate Philly is amazing! Esp in a toast & PB combo

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 24/07/2015 12:21

Adore caramel Adore salt....never the two shall meet...refused to touch anything made with it

UNTIL

I accidentally picked up a (large jam jar size by that fancy French jam company) jar of salted caramel dulce de leche instead of plain caramel

2 days. 2 days that jar lasted and it never saw anything other then a spoon and the inside of my mouth

green18 · 24/07/2015 12:23

PB? Mummatron

HookedOnHooking · 24/07/2015 12:25

I think it's high time there was a craze for offal.

green18 · 24/07/2015 12:30

salted kidneys anyone?

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 24/07/2015 12:32

Home-made and salted with crunchy maldon sea salt flakes - mmm. Been making it for years.

But Cadbury and the like don't do it right. It's too sweet.

Pulled pork is grim. Why ruin a perfectly tender, tasty shoulder of pork by pouring disgusting, sickly BBQ sauce all over it? Why would you do that?!

1Morewineplease · 24/07/2015 13:05

Thank you for some great posts! Just another small thing... Is anyone actually spiralising all their veg too??? I have visions of seeing pulled sea-bass on a spiralised timbale of fennel with a salted caramel and chorizo coulis appearing on menus any day soon!

paulapompom · 24/07/2015 13:10

Mmmmmmmmmm salted caramel - forgotten the original AIBU now just hungry, sorry

SuburbanRhonda · 24/07/2015 13:13

I don't spiral my veg but I did use to love the spaghetti squash my dad grew on his allotment. It was delicious and didn't need yet another one-trick pony kitchen gadget to prepare it Smile

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2015 13:14

So what food is unfashionable? I'd suggest a garden salad.
Prawn cocktail (though I suspect they'll make a ker-ay-zee retro comeback)

SuburbanRhonda · 24/07/2015 13:15

I have to say the new salted caramel arctic roll at Prezzo is the dogs' bollocks Grin

StrawberrytallCake · 24/07/2015 13:17

Disagree on SC and chorizo - surely chorizo is a staple food that has been used for 100s of years in Spain.

I do think pulled pork is a load of bullshit though.

HoneyDragon · 24/07/2015 13:18

Sea bass is for sizzling not pulling

SuburbanRhonda · 24/07/2015 13:19

I made pulled jackfruit last week Blush
