Yep. It's that time of year again.
Hordes of women to be seen walking around, sporting shapeless tat that they've been 'lucky' enough to pick up in the Next Sale.
All looking like identical victims of an explosion in a paint factory.

Aibu to think that, this year especially, even the quality and colours of the clothes in the supermarkets is far superior than those found in Next.

I don't think it was jersey material more like t-shirt type material. Awful anyway.

JohnCusacksWife · 24/07/2015 08:56

Not sure why you feel the need to sneer? It's like any shop imo - some things you like and some you don't. We all like/suit different things.

Am not a fan of most sales to be honest - can't be doing with raking through piles of stuff laid out like a jumble sale....

Lagoonablue · 24/07/2015 08:58

Agree in the 80s and 90s their stuff was good.now you really have to look for stuff. I have bought some chinos and a work dress this year. I am tall and like that their trousers come in long length. Tbh though it's not great.

TheCraicDealer · 24/07/2015 08:59

I get the odd plain "shell" top for work because they're about £18 or something and you can tuck them in trousers or skirts. But nothing else, apart from maybe the shoes because they're one of the few places on the high street that does half sizes.

Agree most of the tops are those awful smocky things, or they have bubble hems Confused it's like they reviewed the age and profile of their average customer and thought, "these women will all want tops to cover their mum tums!" and just built the womenswear around that.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 24/07/2015 09:01

I haven't bought any tips from next for myself for years. I still like the kiddies range though. I did get myself another pair of the high waisted enhancer jeans that were half price (£15) so I was happy with that.

kissmaass · 24/07/2015 09:04

They continue to make money because of their high interest rate on the buy now/pay later side of things. In fact I think as a company they are doing very well financially. But like everyone else, I have stopped shopping there once I realised that my dresses from Primark were lasting longer than the ones from Next.

jenenberry · 24/07/2015 09:06

TheOcratic, I get the impression they have designed their tops to be 'forgiving' of mum tums. Same as M & S seem to think that their core customers, all have thick 'middle age spread' waists, so they make all the waists extra wide.
It's a crazy way of doing things.

I find most of their adult clothes really bland and 'meh'. I started getting the catalogue when DD was tiny as they did lovely stuff for little ones, but she's a strapping 11yo now and their fit seems to be on the skinny side so we rarely use them these days.

I do like a lot of their household range, but again, rarely buy it as can usually get similar cheaper elsewhere.

I used to love their clothes ten years ago and got quite a few nice bits from there. But haven't found anything nice clothes-wise in there for years, I just go in there now for the home section which is still really good.

jenenberry · 24/07/2015 09:12

Children's and homeware section still ok..... but they have seriously lost their way with women's wear.

Pleased to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't get the appeal of Next. I go to great lengths to try and not look like a frump (and don't always get it right) but even I know when I walk into Next in desperation that's exactly how I will look in their clothes.

leccybill · 24/07/2015 09:27

I'm slim and long of body so absolutely none of the womenswear suits me. I don't mind some of their jewellery and the fragrances are great. They did a cassis and fig one earlier this year that was identical to Jo Malone.

Younger girls wear great and I like some of the homeware.
I had the first VIP slot this sale and made a little list of kidswear and home bits. Logged on at 5pm and nothing was left? Is there a VVVVVIP slot or do staff get first pick?

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 24/07/2015 09:28

Their girls dressss were so pretty this year really chic. One was black and white stripes with s full skirt and high front. Lovely.

I have boys.

WyrdByrd · 24/07/2015 09:42

I was really annoyed this summer when I went online back in about March to order a job lot of plain V-necked t-shirts and they were out of stock of every colour I wanted in my size and most other sizes and colours. Ridiculous.

RachelRagged · 24/07/2015 09:48

Looked on NEXT Sale online site . .Nothing I would want from it . Years ago they were good ,, not so much now.

Got myself and DD some things from Uniqlo and H&M .. waiting on delivery now.

silverglitterpisser · 24/07/2015 09:52

My DC r virtually top to toe Next unless they have been bought clothes as gifts by someone else or r wearing sports /football stuff . I really love their kids clothes (tho I won't advertise for them so if the item is emblazoned with Next, I don't buy it) but I don't like their ladies stuff at all, have maybe 3 or 4 things from there in total for me.

As for the sale? Queuing/fighting at an ungodly hour for last seasons overstock, returns n tat? No thanks! I actually hate when the sale is on as I can't easily just bob in if I need some vests. First world problems n all that Grin .

cleanmachine · 24/07/2015 09:53

cheaper to go to h&m non sale stuff than buy in the next sale. my neighbour bought her 12 month old daughter a dress in the sale for £26 down from £36. it was an awful pink frilly affair. I have never been to the next sale and avoid it like the plague. over priced tat.

SideOrderofChips · 24/07/2015 09:55

I go really early for the boxing day sale as i like their winter stuff for the kids.

Baddz · 24/07/2015 09:58

Used to buy a lot from them years ago.
Nothing I like now and the sale is all the tat no one wanted.
I have just bought ds1s winter stuff from h and m.

Sparklingbrook · 24/07/2015 10:18

In the 'OMG who thought that was a nice design, my eyes' clothes stakes Asda wins hands down.

Almahart · 24/07/2015 10:21

I love h&m for boys. Next's boys sandals and plimsolls etc are very nice though

Baddz · 24/07/2015 10:22

Ive never used them before! So am a bit nervous. Hope the generous fit jeans really are generous! :)

jenenberry · 24/07/2015 10:25

This would possibly be a good question for the 'Ask a question about someone's job thread.

''To any Next Designers out there -

What exactly goes through your head when you design these things?'' Grin
