to think 'the sun' is utter scum over the queen's 'nazi salute' ?

mrsfuzzy · 18/07/2015 09:06

it might be 'historical significance' but is it really ? the film taken in 1933 shows the royal family doing nazi salutes. the 'salute' was not really known about then as to what it would come to signify and this seems scummy behaviour on behalf of the sun to print it.
everyone now involved is dead, but the queen still has to hear it,
i'm not into royalty but this seems shitty in my book.

First time in recorded history the Sun has printed something interesting, in my opinion. The Establishment has been airbrushing the nazi sympathies of many members of the English ruling classes since the War. Edward 8 was the most open but he was not alone..

Baddz · 18/07/2015 09:49

Harry dressing up as a nazi officer anyone?
Quite recent.
It doesn't shock me at all tbh.
I am sure many of the queens close family members have dubious political leanings. The elite keep to themselves...they socialise together, inter marry...max Mosley (son of Oswald) held nazi sex parties (probably still does)
I think many of the aristocracy actually approved of hitler et al and I would imagine still do (although they would never admit it)

motherinferior · 18/07/2015 09:56

Yes, Jessica Mitford writes in Hons and Rebels about how many people would refer to "that feller Hitler" in approving tones.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 18/07/2015 09:56

I don't like the Sun at all so I agree it is scummy.

I do think it's an interesting insight into how tightly controlled the royal family's image is and clearly always has been.

motherinferior · 18/07/2015 10:00

Mein Kampf was published in 1925. I think it is fair to say that Hitler's supporters had a pretty good idea of the sort of thing they didn't like (Jews, gays, that sort of thing) even if they did not envisage precisely the scale of horror that then unfolded.

Baddz · 18/07/2015 10:00

Once the queen and Phillip have gone, the floodgates will open, I'm sure.
Lots of less than edifying stuff will come out.
Phillip has never been faithful. Countless affairs.
Charles is - quite frankly - damaged. His childhood was very unhappy. He is a child who is loaded by his parents.
Andrew is a sleazy waste of space.
And Edward?
Sigh.
What a bunch.

Baddz · 18/07/2015 10:02

I recommend reading about the mitfords actually.
Fascinating.

ilovesooty · 18/07/2015 10:06

I agree. The lid will be lifted on exactly how corrupt the House of Windsor is once the Queen dies.

MrsO501 · 18/07/2015 10:11

Why do "republicans" always feel the need to comment on the discussions regarding the monarchy......?! If youreally don't like the queen and royal family stop being so interested in them!

Baddz · 18/07/2015 10:16

Why shouldn't I be interested in my country's history?
I'm not religious but I find the history of religion fascinating too.
Just because I think inherited privilege (that is privilege that isn't earned) is morally wrong I can't comment?
Wow.

ilovesooty · 18/07/2015 10:17

I don't see why I shouldn't comment negatively on the Royal family if I want to. I wasn't abusive. At the risk of sounding clichéd, who told you you could police what people post?

Theycallmemellowjello · 18/07/2015 10:19

Er what do you think nazi party policy was in 1933?

bopoityboo3 · 18/07/2015 10:21

It wasn't just the upper classes who didn't have a problem with Hitler. We, as a country, did not care what the Nazi's were up to until it become a problem for us as Hitler tried to take over the rest of Europe. It's not like we in England didn't have similar things trying to happen, Oswald Mosley and his blackshirts any one? He had a huge amount of supporters and very close links to the Nazi party. Oh and his supporters weren't just his fellow aristocratic cronies. Lots of 'normal' people agreed with him too.

Makes absolutely no sense!

MrsO501 · 18/07/2015 10:24

Baddz from your post it doesn't come across that you are interested in royal history, but only mindless gossip!

With regards to your comment on inherited privilege, I hope you would not accept any money passed down to you in a will from a family member as you would not have earned it?

MrsO501 · 18/07/2015 10:26

It just seems to me that the people who moan most about the royal family are the ones most interested in them and most often buying gossip magazines to read about them.

Baddz · 18/07/2015 10:27

I won't get an inheritance.
Most people don't.
Did you miss my post where I recommend reading about the mitfords?
They really are a horribly fascinating family.
It's not gossip about Phillip...well known facts. I can even give you names :)

Baddz · 18/07/2015 10:28

Hahahahahahahaha
No.
I can assure you I dont get my info about the royal family from magazines.
I read well researched and documented history books!!
As I recommend you to :)

Presumably baddz wouldn't be head of state...there's the difference.

sadwidow28 · 18/07/2015 10:29

The Daily Fail is running with the nazi story - but I do think The Sun's picture was more about the Queen's Uncle rather than a little girl copying a grown-up doing a silly sign.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2973681/Edward-Nazi-King-England-Princess-Dianas-biographer-reveals-Duke-Windsor-s-collusion-Hitler.html

Edward was in negotiations with Hitler to get the British throne back, but the outcome of the war put a stop to that.

ilovesooty · 18/07/2015 10:30

I've never bought a gossip magazine to read about the Royal family. I wasn't moaning either. I simply stated that I expect a lot of facts to come out in due course which are probably being kept under wraps out of respect for the Queen.

ForalltheSaints · 18/07/2015 10:31

Rupert Murdoch is a republican. It is a time of year with little news. Otherwise the behaviour of Edward VIII towards his nieces would never have even been reported.

Also, is there about to be a Hillsborough witness to take the stand who will be critical about the Sun's coverage?

Baddz · 18/07/2015 10:33

It's just a nothing story.
A page filler.
It's pointless.
The royal family were nazi sympathisers?
Well, anyone who reads history know this!

Do read about the mitfords, though :)

sweetgrape · 18/07/2015 10:35

I agree with all that Baddz says. Just why people bow down and worship this dysfunctional family who basically are a huge drain on the tax payer is beyond me. I don't believe for one minute that tourists would stop coming if there were no Royal family, just as in France. The huge profits from the royal estates would revert back to the UK.
I find the whole concept of a royal family with an unelected head of state repugnant. The cost of a presidency is far cheaper than having a monarchy.

MrsO501 · 18/07/2015 10:37

Saying that someone you don't know has had countless affairs is gossiping!
