to think 'the sun' is utter scum over the queen's 'nazi salute' ?

it might be 'historical significance' but is it really ? the film taken in 1933 shows the royal family doing nazi salutes. the 'salute' was not really known about then as to what it would come to signify and this seems scummy behaviour on behalf of the sun to print it.
everyone now involved is dead, but the queen still has to hear it,
i'm not into royalty but this seems shitty in my book.

It doesn't prove anything, but it gives the lie to 'we all mocked Hitler, so the Royal Family are doing no more than the rest of us.' I take it your family photos don't show people mocking Hitler either.

Interesting question though - if it had been pictures of Chaplin's silly walk, would anyone try to explain it away?

If Charlie Chaplin had started a war six years later, I expect they would, yes.

Hitler or Germany, of course, didn't declare war on Britain - it was the other way round.

Just as an aside, I remember asking my mother about this when I was about 10- "so he didn't go to war we us, we started it?" "That was different."

I didn't say that he declared war.

I said that he started the war. I don't think many historians would disagree with that statement.

WW1 left a situation that made WW2 likely.
A number of earlier wars and disputes led to WW1.
How far back do you want to go?

But that doesn't excuse Hitler from being blamed for WW2.
