I have no clothes!
Four nights in Venice, flying Monday!
I am in a complete panic, I have nothing even remotely stylish to take with me. I only want to take a capsule with me as its only four nights.
What sort of things should I be shopping for tomorrow? Size 20-22, 5ft7, size 7wide feet. Very much a jeans and t-shirt kind of girls usually. :/ help me so that I don't start crying in the middle of town tomorrow!

Why not just wear your jeans and t shirts and be comfortable being you?
And I'm saying that as a size 18 lass who went to Venice dressed very much the same!

DoeEyedNear · 17/07/2015 20:23

Just wear your normal clothes with a couple of special items for night time

fastdaytears · 17/07/2015 20:24

There was a similar thread a while ago! Surprise trip to super stylish European city with basically no time to shop = stress. DH around the country take note.
Honestly though you'll find tons of lovely stuff. Are you taking a good shopping partner? You need a bit of honesty, bit of cheerleading and ability to locate cake and coffee at a moment's notice.

spottybottycream · 17/07/2015 20:24

But I imagine being all stylish and mysterious in Italy :( I am not at all stylish. All my clothes are bog standard tops and jeans from Asda. :/

Oh and I'm really self conscious about my huge wide feet but I find wedges best for comfort and disguising them. Strappy is not for me. Wedges, jeans (even if you buy a really nice new pair) and a few nice tops. Done!

Methe · 17/07/2015 20:25

What are you planning to do while you're there?

I panicked when I went to Rome a few years ago.. I imagined all the woman being chic Italians but they weren't, they dressed just like I do ( and I'm far from stylish)

When I go to France I panic about all the French woman being skinny but when I get there they come in all shapes and sizes just like we do.

Jeans and t shirts will be fine, just be yourself!

One tip from me is wear comfortable shoes.

No shopping partners available, hense the seeking of advice!

Get yourself to Evans. 3 pairs of linen trousers. Maybe a couple of new vest tops and a shrug / kimono thing for over your shoulders (light colour)

Pack your usual t shirts / whatever; comfy nice trainers and a comfy pair of sandals.

Sorted...

DoeEyedNear · 17/07/2015 20:26

I went to Rome recently and just wore what I do normally. I live in supermarket fashion with a smattering of debenhams. No one battered an eyelid.

fastdaytears · 17/07/2015 20:27

My favourite jeans in the world are from Asda! If they fit you then they are stylish. But you could buy a few new tops to make you feel a bit more holiday-y. Off shoulder is really in right now and easy to wear in a nice loose style if you're confident with a strapless bra (I love my wonderbra strapless and my boobs need some holding up)

Minniemagoo · 17/07/2015 20:29

Lucky you :)
I am similar sizes and when somewhere like that I find jeans just to heavy and feel underdressed.
My fall back is short sleeved tunic tops esp from Joe Brown's, KoKo and Mantarey teamed with black cropped trousers and sketchers pumps.
Admittingly I buy a lot of my clothes online but find Debenhams usually good.

ChampagneBabyCakes · 17/07/2015 20:29

Yes, everyone is right saying be yourself BUT it will probably be too hot for jeans so you do need to shop. Buy and wear whatever you like, but make sure you won't overheat. Long dresses, shorts, anything really. Venice is busy this time of year and people follow their own style.
Have a wonderful time.

imsorryiasked · 17/07/2015 20:29

As long as you have comfy shoes you'll be enjoying yourself too much to worry about clothes. Jeans really are fine.

Welshmaenad · 17/07/2015 20:29

Black cropped wonderfit jeans from asda. Go with everything.

fastdaytears · 17/07/2015 20:29

Have you ever done the free personal shopper thing in debenhams or JL? I thought it would be my idea of hell but enjoyed it and got some stuff I wouldn't have chosen otherwise. Might be too late for tomorrow but is worth thinking about if you want to try something new.

lifelorn · 17/07/2015 20:29

Go to East they have lovely linen shirts, harem pants and swishy skirts - lots in the sale.
I am a recent convert as I did not realise they did larger sizes, however since I bought a linen shirt 2 months ago, I have since bought lot of lovely things.
However apparently they are in some sort of receivership (fantastic sale items) but I really hope they survive.
Have a lovely trip.

WestEast · 17/07/2015 20:30

Honestly people will not notice what you're wearing. It's like walking through Central London, no one bats an eye, and if they do, fuck them! Enjoy your break, the art, architecture, history, it's bloody beautiful and wether you have jeans or linen bleeding trousers on doesn't matter.

fastdaytears · 17/07/2015 20:30

Welsh Asda Wonderfit anything is amazing! Also love the vanity sizing of a 14-16 being Medium. I'm never a medium!

ihavenonameonhere · 17/07/2015 20:31

It's going to be hot and crowded. So big brimmed hat and comfy shoes.

It's amazing but a tourist resort so everyone will look like tourists :)

fourtothedozen · 17/07/2015 20:33

Bear in mind the temperature.
It will be around 35 degrees, sightseeing while wearing jeans will be very hot and uncomfortable.

pieceofpurplesky · 17/07/2015 20:37

Venice will be hot at this time of year. Go for floaty. Linen trousers/crops and floaty tops like this

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/07/2015 20:43

If you have a Sainsburys nearby, Tu clothes are fairly cheap, and quite well-made for the money. Yesterday I saw a white linen loosish top with pintucks -that I didn't buy only because I have one very similar I did buy a chambray linen collarless top that was very similar in style, and I did see they had some nice loose trousers, with an inoffensive print, that I resisted. I am a similar size to you btw.

Yarp · 17/07/2015 20:47

Most people there will be tourists, so, not stylish either. Don't panic

I once tried to look chic in Paris. Impossible compared to a Parisenne (?sp.). Easy compared to the average American/British tourist

Janeymoo50 · 17/07/2015 20:48

Three quarter length trousers and the most comfy footwear ever. Venice is going to be packed...lots of cruise ships in and very few places to sit. Good sun hat too, it's hot. Try a boat trip to Murano too....a bit quieter and very pretty. Couple of nice maxi dresses for the evenings (alternate them) with a shawl/light wrap as it gets breezy from the lagoon. Enjoy.
