I have no clothes!
Four nights in Venice, flying Monday!
I am in a complete panic, I have nothing even remotely stylish to take with me. I only want to take a capsule with me as its only four nights.
What sort of things should I be shopping for tomorrow? Size 20-22, 5ft7, size 7wide feet. Very much a jeans and t-shirt kind of girls usually. :/ help me so that I don't start crying in the middle of town tomorrow!

Choose separates to mix and match, and accessorise with costume jewellery, floaty scarves, dressier sandals etc for the evening. Proper walking sandals with shock absorbing soles for sightseeing, the kind you get from Millets.

Someone mentioned a Yours shop upthread, I'm a size 16 bottom and their linen style cropped trousers and knee length shorts are good, I have a pair of their shorts. BHS as well.

A word of warning, don't take expensive jewellery or watches, and wear a shoulder bag with a cross body shoulder strap, and keep the bag part to your front to foil any thieves.

Have a lovely trip!

Purplepoodle · 18/07/2015 09:20

Linen trousers and some tunic tops (mine are from asda lol)

TheRealMaryMillington · 18/07/2015 09:23

I think you might be too hot in jeans

I'd try for some wide-legged linen trousers and just wear your normal tops. Maybe a light lineny shirt and a coupe of vests

A scarf to wrap round shoulders or neck to prevent sunburn, a hat of some sort, sunblock and shades.

Also an umbrella or cag.

dotdotdotmustdash · 18/07/2015 09:24

Asda, two or three pairs of their linen trousers, some pretty tops and cardigan. Should be within your budget.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 18/07/2015 09:28

Gap for loose light t shirts and vest tops
Sainsburys and M&S for long denim shorts, cotton trousers, linen shirts
Schuh for Birkenstocks

Have fun

LittleCandle · 18/07/2015 09:32

Yeah, i was going to say Simply Be, too. They have a very good sale on at the moment and next day delivery. They also do really nice wide fit shoes, including sort of Birkenstock-type sandals.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 18/07/2015 09:35

On a budget- asda, sainsburys, and tesci..

I am same size as you OP... Buy a lot ofy wardrobestaples in George at asdaGrin-chesper and better quality than evans imho.

Also m&s doing harem linen trousers for ab9ut 20£

antimatter · 18/07/2015 09:39

I went to Venice a month ago. Too hot for jeans! Make sure you bring your sunglasses and a sun hat.
Love Venice!
No one will look at your clothes! They are either busy or too hot Grin

Keeptrudging · 18/07/2015 09:47

Floaty dresses, comfy sandals, wrap for night - time - there's a lot of going up and down stairs in Venice because of all the bridges so what you wear on your feet is the most important . It was hot but bearable, wouldn't wear jeans though.

AlpacaLypse · 18/07/2015 09:50

I had a surprise week in Florence this time last year. I did it with my cropped walking trousers, (techno fabric), techno walking sandals, techno walking t shirts, factor 50, a sunhat, Jungle Formula insect repellent (as pp said Italian mozzies are considerably worse than ours!), a bikini, a sarong and one long dress. Got the lot in one carry on bag no problem. Lotions and potions easily available when I got there. Having said, I ended up buying another suitcase for the return flight to put all the lovely things I bought into!

And (unlike the French) the Italians don't turn up their noses at you for not speaking their language or having a shit accent if you do!

Also I think I met the lady with the Chihuahua in a sling on the train...

HeyDuggee · 18/07/2015 09:51

I echo those who say Venice will be full of tourists that time of the year. The Italians stay away (unless they work there) during summer and holiday elsewhere. I've only overheard Italian spoken in Venice when I visited in February :-)

magicstar1 · 18/07/2015 09:53

Try yoursclothing.co.uk for a quick delivery. In their sale section you can get some lovely cheap dresses. I've shopped for holiday clothes there and they mightn't last forever but are pretty good.

CrispyCrispBag · 18/07/2015 09:59

Maxi dresses would be most comfortable in the heat and flattering too! If you're self-conscious about your upper arms a thin bolero cardigan will do the trick (or a wrap in the evening). Get some cheap costume jewellery to dress the outfit up for evenings. Dresses take up very little luggage space too.

I'm a different size so not a lot of advice on where to go, but Evans seems to have some good ones. I like this one: m.evans.co.uk/h5/product?productId=20320748

PrimalLass · 18/07/2015 10:29

I'd get a pair of metallic Birkenstocks and a few maxi dresses.

ActiviaYoghurt · 18/07/2015 10:34

Bhs do some fab elastic waistband 3/4 length linen/cotton trousers. They are loose and stylish. I have them in white, black, khaki and beige. They were about £12 last time I looked. You wear with heels and be a bit dressy or casual with flip flops.

Sainsburys have a great sale on at the mo and have some really nice shirt style dresses in cotton for about £10-£15.

spottybottycream · 18/07/2015 10:34

Ok, I'm off out! Wish me luck!

This is nice for the evening direct.asda.com/george/womens/tops/plus-size-camisole-vest/G005114112,default,pd.html

Top it off with this and a pair of linen trousers for an evening out in a restaurant direct.asda.com/george/women/cardigans-jumpers/plus-size-cardigan/G005120968,default,pd.html

alphabettyspaghetty · 18/07/2015 12:56

Sainsburys have some lovely clothes in at the moment

motherofstudents · 18/07/2015 14:28

If it helps, OP, I am in Venice at the moment.
It is hot but not unpleasant. Too hot for jeans of any kind though I would say, even cropped. I looked around today to check for and haven't seen anyone looking particularly stylish. I mean that really nicely btw. There is every shape and size here, wearing everything from shorts and T shirts to casual sundresses and cotton trousers. Everyone looks really happy and relaxed and no one appears to be taking the least notice of anyone else. I even walked by nice waterfront restaurants and saw people having lunch in shirts and vest tops and they looked fine. I haven't seen a single "chic" or "groomed" person around, just happy, smiling ones. Have a lovely time. Wear a hat!

EmmaWoodlouse · 19/07/2015 14:05

Black or cream wide linen trousers, birki type sandals, long, loose tops/shirts and a fab wide-brimmed hat would be my choice.

Tweezertastic · 19/07/2015 15:21
