To think MN is getting nastier?

So far this week we've had giving birth referred to as 'calving' (in the context of women having children while young). Someone loved that one so much they immediately commented on what a great expression it was and repeated it.

We've had someone propose that Prince Phillip should be 'humanely destroyed'. swiftly followed up by a similar suggestion about taking him out to a barn or a shed or some such and shooting him.

We've had a thread about the death of a convicted murdered where several posters queued up to tell us they were, smiling or "laughing gleefully" or simply to post "lol" as a one word comment. (Okay she was a vicious killer and will not be much missed, but really?)

Add to all of that the Budget threads where in the midst of people worrying and calculating the cut to their household budget, other people came to gloat and make helpful observations such as "If you can't afford DC, don't have them."

MN didn't used to be nasty. Vigorous, challenging etc; But not nasty.

What's going on around here?

BOF, that's really funny! In a weird way.

PageNotFound404 · 21/07/2015 16:49

we'll just sit around drinking gin and photocopying our bottoms onto pictures of bats and stuff while AIBU burns

Or "Tuesday", as it's known at MNHQ.

DoeEyedNear · 21/07/2015 16:53

I knew Fridays and centre parks were dodgy on mumsnet but now Tuesdays too?

PageNotFound404 · 21/07/2015 16:59

It's a whole other world in there, Doe.

YouTheCat · 21/07/2015 16:59

I always thought Tuesday was more of a vodka tonic kind of day.

Samcro · 21/07/2015 17:14

limitedperiodonly nah fun is trying to remember what town you are in after a few drinks

And what of it, Pagenotfound ? Wink

Samcro That seems like even more reason to have your name, as well as your next-of-kin's contact details, pinned to your vest.

Pagwatch · 21/07/2015 17:27

I once woke up in Bromley by Bow except it was Bromley in Kent.

limitedperiodonly · 21/07/2015 17:30

A friend did the same thing when getting in a cab in Central London and saying Ilford.

An hour later the driver woke him up in Guildford and asked him which road.

Pagwatch · 21/07/2015 17:35

Hahaha!

limitedperiodonly · 21/07/2015 17:35

For anyone who doesn't know, that's about 30 miles away.

limitedperiodonly · 21/07/2015 17:36

pagwatch this same person woke on the District Line to find someone stealing his shoes.

PageNotFound404 · 21/07/2015 17:38

I think it's a perfectly valid way to spend a Tuesday. Or indeed several Tuesdays. [hic] [presses Copy]

ilovesooty · 21/07/2015 18:16

Tuesdays sound fun at HQ. I think they should let the poor Saturday staff have a Tuesday shift.

Passmethecrisps · 21/07/2015 19:17

That is exactly how my Tuesday has just gone down.

I have met several mners - no name badges. Just bottomless coffee and ikea meatballs. Happy days

Bambambini · 21/07/2015 22:02

"Everyone lies about who they are at meet-ups anyway. At the last one I met four LaQueens, two Bonsoirs, and one not-terribly-convincing scottishmummy."

That made me laugh - did wannabe Scottishmummy have a brummie accent or something?

TiredOfBeingTooSoft · 26/07/2015 19:56

Couldn't agree more. A stepmother was flamed appallingly a week or so ago for asking for help, it was pretty awkward to read.
There are some nasty people coming out of the woodwork..

albertcamus · 26/07/2015 20:37

I don't think it's any more or less nasty than RL. I broke my leg in 3 places back in January (followed by dislocating my arm & developing high blood pressure & taking 4.5 months to get off crutches). I received amazing support via PMs from a wonderful MNetter who had 2 years ago had exactly the same set of breaks ... she really encouraged me & kept me going.

In contrast, in RL, my two closest 'colleagues' were obnoxious at work re. my absence, claiming I was 'milking it' and that my absence was 'unbearably' increasing their workload (despite the organisation being very well led & managed and a full-time cover teacher being employed).

On my return, the feisty & robust attitudes I've absorbed from posters on here who have had to confront various difficult issues helped me to take a strong but polite line which got me through to the end of term despite their continued unpleasantness.

In general, l think that RL has become more difficult & less polite; the content here is a reflection of that.

Still very new to MN and think it's getting nastier. Now getting very selective about threads I open, and blocking more and more. Pity, though as some posters are so witty and some threads very sweet and some very funny.
