To think MN is getting nastier?

So far this week we've had giving birth referred to as 'calving' (in the context of women having children while young). Someone loved that one so much they immediately commented on what a great expression it was and repeated it.

We've had someone propose that Prince Phillip should be 'humanely destroyed'. swiftly followed up by a similar suggestion about taking him out to a barn or a shed or some such and shooting him.

We've had a thread about the death of a convicted murdered where several posters queued up to tell us they were, smiling or "laughing gleefully" or simply to post "lol" as a one word comment. (Okay she was a vicious killer and will not be much missed, but really?)

Add to all of that the Budget threads where in the midst of people worrying and calculating the cut to their household budget, other people came to gloat and make helpful observations such as "If you can't afford DC, don't have them."

MN didn't used to be nasty. Vigorous, challenging etc; But not nasty.

What's going on around here?

I've come to the conclusion I'm just not invested enough as I miss all these outings and scandals

Samcro · 21/07/2015 09:05

there is never an excuse for hounding people. It IMO shows the people doing it up in a bad light. and says more about them than the victim

Bambambini · 21/07/2015 09:07

I shall look out for her on any F&B threads then, and grammar schools of course.

Pagwatch · 21/07/2015 09:14

Sharonthewasp

I'm not sure being on top of the scandals is because one is 'invested'

I'm on here loads but I miss scandals and rucks and all sorts of things because I am not on here at night time that often and because I have a truly terrible memory for names.

I think if you are on a thread that explodes it's quite shocking and you are more likely to remember details

OnAPedalStool · 21/07/2015 09:15

I agree Samcro. I think anyone dragging grudges from thread to thread and getting their FB buddies together to give the people they don't agree with a hard time needs to take a good hard look at themselves!

Samcro · 21/07/2015 09:18

i have seen it dragged on to FB as well. really nasty

OnAPedalStool · 21/07/2015 09:23

I don't use the Facebook page but I think it explains a lot of what I've seen where all of a sudden there is a gang of posters jumping up and down on one person who doesn't share their opinion and pushing them off the thread. It's like a siren goes off somewhere.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 21/07/2015 09:55

Oh, LaQueen is still here peddling her nonsense. She recently got a slap-down for the usual reasons.

DoeEyedNear · 21/07/2015 10:05

Wasn't the laq stuff to do with her husbands qualifications, or rather lack thereof?

Samcro · 21/07/2015 10:09

i think using this thread to slag of a poster is nasty, say it to them or report the, hiding away on here slagging them of is childish.

MaggieJoyBlunt · 21/07/2015 10:41

She's just a good example of a 'persona' Samcro. And successful at it.

OP posts:
Daisywellies · 21/07/2015 11:03

I thought Laqueen was a great addition to Mumsnet. Who cares if she exaggerated for dramatic effect? If she's still on here and it's not breaking any rule could someone PM me her new name?

emotionsecho · 21/07/2015 11:17

The thread Chipped linked about her son and mum was awful but also a good example of how things get ratcheted up. A poster on there made an entire irrelevant observation about a rolled up newspaper in full knowledge that wasn't the item used and all of a sudden it was the item used and Chipped is fire fighting on all fronts.

Why add a rolled up newspaper into the mix? It wouldn't be to ensure the OP got even more of a kicking would it?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 21/07/2015 11:18

I always thought LaQueen was great value for money. Yes she was a bit up her own arse, but in a nice way. She was also always very kind and helpful on PND threads. I'm surprised I haven't recognised her actually; her posting style is quite distinctive.

Chippedrippedandstinking · 21/07/2015 11:30

emotionsecho I felt exactly like that too. And the comment about him being on medication - he isn't, but because another poster had mentioned that about their child, it got projected onto mine.

It does feel as though there was an intention from at least one poster to hang me out to dry at all costs.

Daisywellies · 21/07/2015 11:36

I would far rather read made up or exaggerated posts like LaQueen's that were witty and engaging (even if she did show off a bit) than sour, nasty, nit picking posts designed to belittle others, however 'honest' they are.

SaggyAndLucy · 21/07/2015 11:41

Showed off a bit
^^ That, is the understatement of the century! Hmm Confused

BishopBrennansArse · 21/07/2015 11:43

Oh absolutely, just like the 'nice, kind' way she kept complaining how SN kids took resources away from all the others in schools. Lovely that. And as for dragging issues across threads there was no greater offender.

Queenbean · 21/07/2015 11:43

The thread that Chipped started was upsetting to even read, I can't imagine how she must have felt. It's threads like that that make me think what a shame it is that someone comes on to a speciality forum to ask for help and instead, some dickheads with too much time on their hands and the feeling that being behind a screen makes them invincible make comments for... What? Why bother? It's clearly someone who asks for help and instead it turned in to a series of personal attacks. The worst side of Mumsnet. Chipping, you were thoroughly dignified in that thread. And I thought that MNHQ's comment on it was nowhere near strong enough.

There's also an increasing number of posts who ask the op why they even bother to post about the topic. Usually banal things like cleaning, or supermarkets, or holiday stuff but they always get "couldn't you have googled this" or "seriously, why did you start a thread about this?" IT IS A CHAT FORUM.

emotionsecho · 21/07/2015 11:55

Yes, Chipped that thread is an object lesson in projection, wilful misunderstanding, embellishment, and downright nasty bullying, the posters involved should hang their heads in shame. Sorry you found yourself on the receiving end of it. Flowers

Daisywellies · 21/07/2015 12:01

I have to say, I am sometimes surprised at how a fairly innocuous post will be removed by MNHQ, while another poster is allowed post a stream of nasty, vindictive, spiteful and increasingly hysterical posts, totally unhindered.

YouTheCat · 21/07/2015 12:04

Some people are just such twats.

Now, I'm off to deep clean my kitchen so that I can allow myself a nice musical dvd this afternoon whilst dd goes to Bingo (weird kid) with her gm.

i have stopped my postings about Wilf due to so many nasty comments. Granted people are nice too, but the unpleasant people have stopped me talking about him! Sad
