Steve Wright? Serious Jockin' ???

I've not posted here before but Steve Wright is driving me absolutely bonkers with his 'serious Jockin''. His regular programme is bad enough but now we are subjected to mentions every bloomin' day about his bloomin' Friday programme. Is this really the best the BBC can do for the Licence payer during prime-time listening?

I used to listen to him in the car on my way home from college 35 years ago with my ds. And now I'm driving my dgs home from school in the afternoons I'm listening to him again. I like him.

I am stuck listening to this crap at work. Don’t mind Jeremy Vine or Vanessa at 12 but it all goes down hill at 2. I particularly hate the SW hanger on (from Oxford, can’t think of his name) that reads the ‘factoids’, arghhh! The only good thing is he has A LOT of holidays and sometimes the stand-ins are good.

Radio in this country is terrible and getting worse. I scan through the radio stations while travelling to work and often every single station is either playing an advert or just people talking, there's no music at all.

Could someone explain why this zombie thread has been dug up?

Is @Careerman1960 trying to get his post count up?

I miss Simon Mayo.

Tiredalwaystired · 04/02/2022 18:51

I have literally had this conversation with my Eleven year old about this today! He’s not changed his act in thirty years - the fact they still do Alan Bennett impressions when he’s not been in the public eye much for at least twenty years shows just how out of date he is. It reminds me of the last few years of Bruce Forsyth - someone needs to put him out to pasture now.

Dazedandc0nfused · 04/02/2022 18:51

I can see why people like him but he's not my cup of tea. Give me Ken Bruce any day.

Tiredalwaystired · 04/02/2022 18:52

Conversely - why is it not SIR Ken Bruce?

Because nothing has changed with "Wrighty" since 2015:!

I have no idea what any of you are talking about because Radio 2 is utter shit from start to finish. DH ( the one with a sat nav) puts it on in his car. It is literally the reason I drive us places except for when we go for a drink.
The fact he can listen to R2 sober is amazing and terrifying in equal measure.

I think R1 is pretty good especially the early morning stuff. R4 my station of choice.

Mothermorph · 04/02/2022 19:19

We have radio 2 on at work. I like Ken Bruce and Sara Cox but Jeremy Vine and Steve Wright are awful. I enjoyed the weeks Vernon Kay stood in.
I know its a zombie thread but he's still unfunny and awful.
...and although it's light relief for listeners when someone else stands in, how cushy is his job? He has about 20 weeks of holiday a year (thankfully), gets paid a fortune, sings badly over half the songs and hasn't had to think of anything new or interesting for about 30 years! Confused

And I'm sure all the factoids are from that days metro.

gillybean2 · 04/02/2022 19:39

@Huntswomanonthemove Simon Mayo is now on greatest hits radio.

TrashyPanda · 04/02/2022 23:47

Want to hate him even more?
The BBC pays him £465k a year for being crap

In the same vein, Derek Thompson aka Charlie on Casualty,, is the highest paid BBC actor. And he is notorious for being a really, really bad actor who can’t bear to look at anyone.
