Steve Wright? Serious Jockin' ???

I've not posted here before but Steve Wright is driving me absolutely bonkers with his 'serious Jockin''. His regular programme is bad enough but now we are subjected to mentions every bloomin' day about his bloomin' Friday programme. Is this really the best the BBC can do for the Licence payer during prime-time listening?

Haha - agreed Pictish - but I was 13 and madly in love ??????

SaulGood · 21/07/2015 17:33

fancyanotherfez, do you mean Paddy's only on for one day? He's on all week isn't he? I'm sure he said yesterday he was covering for a week and he was definitely on today!

fancyanotherfez · 21/07/2015 17:36

no he is. He must have been joking and I was so despondent I took him at face value!

fancyanotherfez · 21/07/2015 17:39

Scarlets 'I am a man who will fight for your honour, I'll be the heeeero you've been waiting for! '

SillyStuffBiting · 21/07/2015 17:41

He's more irritating than thrush.

EponasWildDaughter · 21/07/2015 17:46

scarlets - i remember once i'd sat and waited absolutely ages to record U2s Unforgettable Fire. The single. Hovering over 'record' i timmed the start of perfectly; sat so quiet and still (recorder recorded noises in the room plus the radio) - then bloody SW starts beat boxing over the drums and strings!! Making stupid spluttering raspberry noises right across the track AngryAngryAngry Fecking idiot! can hear it now!! Arrrggghhh.

urbanjan · 03/06/2016 16:24

Please tell me its not just me - but does SW really need to name the show every minute of the whole show - a great idea ruined by an annoying DJ. Jockin Jockin Jockin - aggghhhhh, and now tuning else where!

paulhd · 02/09/2016 16:29

OMG I have to respond to this thread, I totally agree, what a load of rubbish I am sick to death of serious Jockin and also I am fed up with Steve talking through every single song he plays. He is even talking through the serious Jockin part now!!! The golden rule of any radio presenter is that you never talk over a piece of music and he talks over everything. when Steve was on Radio 1 I had so much respect for his show he was brilliant but now.... well the only reason I listen is there is no other channel that plays music that I like with no ads but the way this show is going then I am turning to internet radio streaming. STEVE SHUT UP AND GET ON WITH THE SHOW !!!! Bring back the presenter that took Steve's place last week when he was away now he can mix and he SHUTS UP!!!

PavlovianLunge · 02/09/2016 16:51

I know IABU for wanting a man to be sacked, but ffs, how is Steve Wright still in a job?

BabyGanoush · 02/09/2016 16:53

As soon as it's Steve Wright in the afternoohoon I turn my car radio to jack.fm!

SquatBetty · 02/09/2016 17:12

Many years ago in the 80s (old gimmer) I can remember hearing the Communards cover of 'Never can say goodbye' on the Steve Wright show on R1. After it finished Steve Wright started sneering about Jimmy Somerville (openly gay pop star) singing the words 'never can say goodbye, boy'
"oooh did he say boy! Did he really say that??!!"

Always thought Steve Wright was a bit of a cunt after that. And am amazed he's still in employment on the radio, he's a complete acronysm.

stonecircle · 02/09/2016 17:32

Absolutely CANNOT STAND the man. Can't switch the radio off soon enough if I accidentally put him on. I don't get it because no other dj seems to annoy so much. Simon Mayo is great. Chris Evans can be annoying but not in a way that makes me want to punch him. Ken Bruce is ok but SW AngryAngryAngry

PolaDeVeboise · 02/09/2016 17:40

Have to comment on each one of these threads in the hope that someone, somewhere will get shot of the irritating knob. He is beyond tedious and loves himself so much. I'm utterly convinced that all the other DJ's hate him. Have you ever noticed that he never does a handover with either Jezza or Simon Mayo?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/09/2016 17:41

I love how radio 2 DJ''s feature heavily in our everyday chat, love or hate them, I was championing Sara Cox the other day.

Serious Jockin' is a bit of a joke in our house but I do like the music he plays, my dh and ds1 are working together and serious jockin' is a laugh for them in the van on the way home.

justgivemeamo · 02/09/2016 17:42

I went through shock, repulsion and now I find it hilarious! its so ridiculous and silly!

TheNaze73 · 02/09/2016 18:02

Radio 2 won't remove him with such good rajar listening figures.

Radio 2 does cover a lot of bases demographic wise, so all won't be for everyone's taste. I'd love Sara Cox to do breakfast & Chris Evans to do the afternoon. I also like Anneka Rice & wish she'd replace Vanessa Feltz for the early show.

DadOnIce · 02/09/2016 18:06

You could never record anything off a normal DJ show in the 80s. Everyone talked over the intro and end! The Top 40 was the only place to get records played in full, and even then you had to be quick with the pause button before Bruno Brookes started spouting off.

Kids today with their iTuneses and their Spotifys don't know they're born.

Shockers · 02/09/2016 18:11

He pronounces the word 'tour' in a way that makes me irrationally angry.

I turn over when he comes on because I cannot abide listening to him, or his self satisfied, know-it-all sidekick.

Shockers · 02/09/2016 18:12

I love Sara Cox in the morning too!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 02/09/2016 18:19

I listen to SW in the car when I'm driving in the afternoons, but mainly because I enjoy the oldies. Serious jockin gives me the rage though!! As I get older, I find myself enjoying KB more and more, and even deliberately switching the radio on at 10.30 for Popmaster!

oldbird51 · 02/09/2016 18:37

I like the fact that some things don't change. I have been listening to Steve Wright for years - and if you don't like him, just find another programme to listen to. There are plenty to choose from these days, after all.

theliverpoolone · 02/09/2016 18:46

Shockers, glad it's not just me that cringes every time he says the word 'tour' - it drives me mad! I'm sure he deliberately exaggerates it for extra annoyingness!

Serious Jockin' is horrendous. I heard someone (think it was Mark Goodier) covering it once and you could just tell he was dying inside every time he had to say it.

ffon · 02/09/2016 18:49

Right.
Chris Evans gives me the rage.
I love, love absolutely adore Ken Bruce. The sheer relief when his professional, modulated, intelligent, slightly mocking tones replace Evans hysteria is heaven.
Jeremy Vine-meh.
Steve Wright is ok. I appreciate his longevity on radio and he and the team are often funny. He takes the piss out of himself which I like.
The other one at drive time-meh
Sara Cox is lovely, give her the breakfast show.
Zoe Ball is useless, sadly.
Graham Norton does a great show especially with Maria Thingy. He races through his guests though and I sometimes get the feeling he is just there to earn some more cash in order to take the whole feckin summer off.

JazzTheDog · 02/09/2016 18:55

Chris Moyle's fans!! You need to tune in on a DAB radio at breakfast to Radio X

www.radiox.co.uk/radio/chris-moyles/

Dixiebell · 02/09/2016 19:26

Can also download the Chris Moyles Radio X podcasts. Is quite funny!
