Dd has an essay to type, needs headers, footers etc. iPad is uncomfortable to type an essay on and isn't compatible with school computers. She asked dh if she could move one of the two computers he doesn't use into her study space and use that. Apparently not, because they're his. She has to use mine. Fine by me, I have an iPad, but as she quite reasonably pointed out, there are more distractions downstairs. He is now upstairs in a mood because we don't understand him. I don't, he doesn't use them! Please tell me it isn't me.

So she needs a computer to do her work, he has 2, neither of which he uses and he is sulking because you don't understand him!

I understand why he might be a bit possessive about them and not want them moving but at the same time if he doesn't use them he should get over it.

Why is your stuff ok for her to share but not his? And why does he have two computers he doesn't use?

If the moving them is his problem, she should use one in the space it's in now. I can't see any reason to object to that.

so unfair on your dd to have to sit down stairs with no privacy or personal space and do the work when there's a much better alternative.

I'm afraid more info needed. My friends DH has this set up,,but his are exceptionally expensive for business - is it something similar?

No porn, I know what's on them. He doesn't use them because he is unable to sit at them. One hasn't been used for about nine years and probably doesn't have what she needs, the other is in our bedroom, not used for about three years. He has an iPad which he uses occasionally.
He feels they would be appropriated if he says yes. I've had to spend a couple of hundred quid that we can ill afford on a wee laptop for her. Angry

I am a geek and he is being massively unreasonable. He should be showing off the features on his computer in a sad and annoying way. There's no way anyone can write a whole essay on an ipad. When he's not looking check the recently opened files and see if anything interesting comes up.

TBH I can see his point kind of, I'm possessive about my computer but on the other hand he doesn't use them.

I see the typical 'check the files' posters have appeared already.

well I'm possessive about my laptop too as I use it for my work but that said there is an accessible PC for ds1 to use pretty much whenever he wants in an office only he really uses as I prefer to work at the kitchen table and DH does everything on his laptop.

Either there is something dodgy on his machines, or you're married to a complete berk who withholds stuff from children just because he can.
