To be a bit shocked that my phone is apparently sectarian?

On unlocking the phone screen this morning the home screen showed the picture of my DGD as usual, the time and date, again, all as usual, then the line "Battle of the Boyne (N. Ireland). United Kingdom. All day"

This is the first time since I got the phone in April that it's given information about the significance of any given day. I'm a bit nonplussed tbh.

iPhone?

They've always shown the Battle of the Boyne (and nothing else). I had never heard of it until it kept popping up in my iPhone calendar.

Cocolepew · 12/07/2015 10:49

Well it's not actually sectarian. It is the anniversary of the Battle of The Boyne.

Cocolepew · 12/07/2015 10:49

If it said No Surrender then it is sectarian Grin

SurlyCue · 12/07/2015 10:50

How is that sectarian? It is a holiday in part of the UK.

TTWK · 12/07/2015 10:57

My phone told me it was Good Friday, Easter Monday and May Day so I must have a Christian communist phone!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 12/07/2015 10:58

Ha. My phone doesn't do that but they've probably switched it off for Irish phones Smile

VivaLeBeaver · 12/07/2015 11:06

Ive got a Jewish oven. Someone on mn has a jewish fridge. Grin

DrElizabethPlimpton · 12/07/2015 11:17

The Jewish fridge was one of my favourite threads.

SurlyCue · 12/07/2015 11:17

Grin forgive my ignorance but what makes an oven or fridge jewish?

gallicgirl · 12/07/2015 11:18

Are you on Orange?

lunalovegood84 · 12/07/2015 11:19

Haha! It's not sectarian if it reminds you about St Patrick's day as well.

whatlifestylechoice · 12/07/2015 11:20

Are you on Orange?

Bwahaha! Grin

Mrsjayy · 12/07/2015 11:21

DoctorTwo · 12/07/2015 11:27

Are you on Orange hahahahaha. :o Actually I'm on EE (fuck all anywhere) so I sort of am I suppose. The phone's a Nokia Lumia something or other, can't remember what number, but it's big and the OS is Windows 8.1.

I'll have to keep an eye out now to see if it tells me what significant anniversarie/bank hoidays are up next.

surlyCue. Jewish ovens have a sabbath mode so they stay on low all sabbath. This means you dont have to start a fire, ie turn the oven on on the sabbath. It's ok to turn an oven up but not to turn it on.

Jewish fridges in their sabbath mode iirc from the thread won't dispense ice and the light doesn't come on when you open the door. Just on the sabbath.

SquirrelledAway · 12/07/2015 11:33

Shabbat lifts stop at every floor as well. Not ideal if you're on the 30th floor...

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 12/07/2015 11:37

I have it on the lock screen on my laptop OP.

Yup, and it's ok to drive to a street near the synagogue and walk the rest, but you can't drive to the synagogue!

SurlyCue · 12/07/2015 11:48

Wow! It never occurred to me that such things existed! Blush Thanks both.

Vingtdeux22 · 12/07/2015 20:20

Just one Jewish fridge? Shouldn't it be one for meat and another for dairy? My DMiL has those and keeps the bacon in the dairy one.

snowglobemouse · 12/07/2015 20:32

Hmmhow is that sectarian? serious question
