To be a bit shocked that my phone is apparently sectarian?

On unlocking the phone screen this morning the home screen showed the picture of my DGD as usual, the time and date, again, all as usual, then the line "Battle of the Boyne (N. Ireland). United Kingdom. All day"

This is the first time since I got the phone in April that it's given information about the significance of any given day. I'm a bit nonplussed tbh.

"I'm sure that it's really funny for everyone who doesn't live in a Catholic neighbourhood that regularly has Orange parades come through it

Disruptive, disrespectful and a huge waste of police time and council money."

Because of the layout of my town, not only do I have to put up with the waste of time and money...I also get trapped by the closed roads for most of the day, forced to listen to it and unable to get anywhere if I'm too late or unable to get home if I do manage to get away.

The orange joke was still funny though Grin

I'm surprised at the NI Catholics saying the enjoyed the Orangeman parades. I'm from the other side and always hated them because my family did not like what they stood for besides they were dead boring

RonaldMcDonald · 13/07/2015 15:16

in the olden days we watched the parades and saw some bonfires
from a catholic background

Thank you for all your replies, especially the funny ones (Are you on Orange? is one of the best one liners ever imo) and those who explained to an ignorant Englishman. It's still on the front page today, so am I right to assume today is a public holiday in Northern Ireland?

The 12th July bores me stupid but honestly, I promise, it's not sectarian to point out that today is a holiday. Because it is. And everyone loves a holiday don't they? Smile
