Its patronising

I think it's annoying, along with girls calling each other babe
Hate it when people call their boobs "my girls"

maddening · 11/07/2015 11:19

Yabu - humans can refer to their own social events however the fuck they like - whether it's role play weekends, book club meetings, night out with the girls, night out with friends, boys night, date night, family day out, family holiday, engagement party or even the dreaded baby shower, it is just words people use to describe their own evening in a way that conveys what the event is - if you understand what they mean then job done imo girls night out infers a night out with one or a group of female friend/s.

SirChenjin · 11/07/2015 11:21

Hate it when people call their boobs "my girls"

Or "my boys" - let's not be sexist here. Men have boobs too

maddening · 11/07/2015 11:22

and wtf with the "what are you gay" comment - purposefully being so obtuse and making a normal conversation unnecessarily awkward is socially weird - you know exactly what your friend means when they say "meeting a girlfriend"

In what way is it patronising? Is 'boys night' also patronising?

FrankietheSquealer · 11/07/2015 11:27

just to be maddening, maddening Wink

Dojo - i think men arent so routinely patronised and belittled as women so its not exactly the same, but yes it is as well.

Its like when a waiter come up to the table and says ' right girls what are we drinking'

FECK

OFF

Op, you don't like the expression. But you suggest we should all stop using it ( as per your title) makes you yabu

How on earth can you, decide for all, that we need to stop saying it now. You can't.

SirChenjin · 11/07/2015 11:31

You need to change the restaurants you frequent Frankie.

WoonerismSpit · 11/07/2015 11:33

I'm normally shit at identifying namechangers, but I get it right with OP every time.

FrankietheSquealer · 11/07/2015 11:35

"I am out with my friends" could refer to anyone. When I say "the girls", we know who I mean. They've been my girls since we were actually girls, not sure why it bothers you. Grin

sj73 · 11/07/2015 11:37

I hate it too. Girly lunch. Mummy drinks. A cheeky bottle of red. They can all go in my cheeky little room 101 along with 'all the noms' and because + noun.

Twasthecatthatdidit · 11/07/2015 11:39

YABU. I will refer to my nights out however the fuck I please.

WoonerismSpit · 11/07/2015 11:40

Thanks Frankie! You need to work on being less predictable, and/or posting less shitty gifs

sj73 · 11/07/2015 11:40

I think I just hate the tired cliches of social media. It's not particularly patronizing just over used and twee.

FrankietheSquealer · 11/07/2015 11:42

It doesent bother the hell out of me, life's too short to worry about silly things like this. It's no different to men saying they are going on a lads or bits night out. It's an expression, if your happy with it, sod the rest of them. Feminism is not about forcing ideals onto women, but giving them a choice.

FrankietheSquealer · 11/07/2015 11:43

Boys not bits doh.

FrankietheSquealer · 11/07/2015 11:44

Guessing a name change is decidedly meta.

And not the done thing, as you well know

Yes I am meeting up with my good friends this week, I'm meeting up with the girls, so what!
