Smiggle pencil cases

My dd wants one of these - nothing else will do apparently. But tbh I think it's ridiculous to have to spend Â£17 on a pencil case.

I'm not sure if this is peer pressure.

How old is she? Could you offer to pay half and she pays the rest?

If it helps I still have the pencil case I had at school (which wasn't a desirable brand). I left school 25 years ago....

Actually, I also still have the scientific calculator I used all the way through school, with the original batteries, and that still works!

ugh, smiggle.

dd's birthday is coming up and it's the only time she's ever going to get something from there. It doesn't look very robust.

Anything we've had has been very good quality but agree quite expensive.

The majority of smiggle pencil cases are under £10, and the most expensive is £16.50.

Can she not get a cheaper one?

My daughter doesn't have one but some children I teach have the hard case one £10 and it seems really good quality and well thought out.

My dds love smiggle!
I buy them things from there for stockings at christmas. Stuff I've bought from a couple of christmases ago is still going.
Does the one she likes have stationary in it already?
If so, it seems fairly reasonable (though on the more expensive end) and I'd splash out if I knew she would look after it and be trusted not to lend equipment/lose/break things within a week.

I heard of Smiggle for the first time in April, when my niece asked for some stuff for her birthday.

I absolutely loved walking around the shop! I was hooked on stationary as a child/teenager - I would have been a nagging nightmare had Smiggle been around then!

My DD (8) has just spent her saved up pocket money on one, it's lovely! Definitely a craze/peer pressure element to it as many people in her class and other years have them, but they are nice things. But I'd absolutely not have bought her one outright at that (extortionate) price am a cheapskate though I might have done for a birthday gift.

OP, is your DD paying for it? If so, I can think of worse things to spend money on.

I'd have loved one as a child!

I am currently the 'coolest' teacher where I work as I have loads of Smiggle stuff. My favourites are the pens that you twist to make them in to highlighters - ages of entertainment in a boring staff meeting! OOH it's a black biro.....now its a yellow highlighter......biro.....highlighter..... I don't get out much!

Oh wow!!I've just googled this and am in love!! I don't see a NI store! But a wee online order might just happen over the next few weeks-purely so that I'm organised for going back to school!! My desk would look great with some of this stuff! Like the stickers! And stampers! And staplers! And post it's! And note books! And...all of it!

My son bought himself a smog gel pencil case. He said that of the maybe 10 people he is friends with who bought one at £10, 6 of them broke. They all had hard cases.

My DS (6) can recommend the Smiggle 'rainbow twirling ribbons' ( m.smiggle.co.uk/shop/m20/en/smiggleuk/rainbow-ribbon ) as a great way to attract the girls at the local park!

I'm glad it's not just us then. Yes, my daughter is also year 6. Well it's £17 including postage (which seems a lot). It is one of the hard ones that she wants but I'm not sure if there is any stationary in it. The kids at my dd's school are thieves rather light fingered though, in spite of all the other families being much richer than we are! I saw a post on the facebook page from a mum saying her dd's smiggle pencil case had been stolen on the first day she took it in and that it had been a present.

Are these generous in size? My dd doesn't get pocket money from me because most of the time I buy her what she needs but her dad gives her pocket money and I'm fairly sure she's got more than enough to cover one. It's just that I've got three children and back to school stuff to buy for the other two as well.

I'm a teacher so Smiggle is my happy place. I've got a few of the 'bubble' pencil cases and the are fantastic. I use them for different things (school one, hobby one, and one to keep my toiletries tidy in my handbag) and they are really hardy, I can toss them around and they don't break, and I've even trained one of my dogs to pick them up and carry it to me, and it's survived that. There's heaps of the smiggle pencil cases around at our school. I really want one of the pop out pencil cases, because it reminds me so much of the ones I coveted back when I was in primary school.

I didn't know Smiggle had escaped from Australia!

It's more for younger dc here in my experience. My dd (11) wouldn't have it. My other dd (8) had a smiggle bag when she started school but she wouldn't even take it to her friends house last week.

The stuff does last quite well I have found.

I'm in aus too, and the kids are all addicted to smiggle. To be fair, it is lovely, but quite expensive. My ds3 (9) bought himself an orange pencil case- a few weeks later, it was his birthday - I went in and lo and behold no orange! They have certain colours for a season or two, then move on to other colours. I asked the assistant if they had any orange left at all, and she said that she shouldn't do this, but brought out a cardboard box of leftover orange stuff which had been on clearance. I was like a kid in a lolly shop! I got about $70 of orange stuff for $27!! Ds was ecstatic!

I've just bought DS a smiggle book bag. Only high Street retailer in my town that does them! School won't allow rucksacks.
Bit more than I was planning on spending but its waterproof and he loves it.
